Casino apps on Android phones

Casino apps on Android phones are now available straight from Google Play in the UK, so you rarely need to sideload an APK. Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet all have Play listings rated PEGI 18. This guide covers who publishes each app, what the data safety labels say, and how to stay in control on Android.

Key takeaways

  • Google Play permits licensed real-money casino apps in the United Kingdom, and all five of our partners are listed there.
  • Play listings don't show a minimum Android version any more; the store checks your phone for you.
  • Coral and Ladbrokes accept Google Pay, with a £5 minimum deposit published for that method.
  • Sideloaded APKs skip Play's review; from Android 8.0 you must approve each app that installs them.
  • Digital Wellbeing timers, GAMSTOP and bank blocks can all limit casino apps on Android.

Are casino apps on Android phones allowed on Google Play?

Yes. Google Play's list of country allowances for gambling apps (opens in a new tab) includes the United Kingdom for online casino games, sports betting and lotteries. Google already counted the UK as a permitted market in its January 2020 announcement, so the days of downloading every casino app from a website are long gone.

Getting onto Play takes more than uploading an app. Under Google's real-money gambling policy (opens in a new tab), the developer must pass an application process and hold a valid licence for each country it serves. The app must also:

  • keep out under-18s and block use from places the licence doesn't cover;
  • be free to download, with no paid version;
  • avoid Google Play's in-app billing, so deposits go through the casino's own cashier;
  • carry an Adults Only rating, an 18+ notice and a responsible gambling statement.

This page is part of our casino apps by device hub. Our explainer on Google Play rules for casino apps goes through the application form in more detail.

UK casino apps on Android: who publishes them

The name on the Play listing isn't always identical to the iPhone version, and the developer line can show a different company from the one you know. Use the developer name to confirm you have the real app.

10bet: Sports Betting & CasinoBlue Star Planet LtdPEGI 18Shares financial info; may collect location

Two quirks are worth knowing. Ladbrokes reverses the word order between stores ("Games & Slots" on iPhone, "Slots & Games" on Android). Casumo's Android title is casino-led, while its iPhone app leads with "Casino & Sports Betting". Both still run sports and casino in one Casumo account.

Each brand's Android page has the full listing: the Coral Android app, the Ladbrokes Android app, the PlayOJO Android app, the Casumo Android app and the 10bet Android app.

Which Android version do casino apps need?

Unlike the App Store, Google Play no longer prints a minimum Android version on its web listings; it only checks against the device you are signed in on. None of our partners' Play pages show a figure, so we can't publish one. The practical test is simple: if Play shows an Install button on your phone, the app supports your Android version.

If you see "Your device isn't compatible with this version", the phone is either too old or set to a non-UK Play country. The operator's mobile site in Chrome usually still works. Our page on casino apps on older phones explains the trade-offs.

Data safety versus the iPhone privacy label

Play's data safety section and Apple's privacy label are written by the developer, and they don't always line up. Coral's Play listing reportedly says no data is collected, while its iPhone label lists location, contact info, financial info and more as linked to you. A casino has to hold identity and payment data by law, so read both labels with some scepticism and see our guide to the data safety section.

How to install a casino app on your Android phone

Installing from Google Play takes a minute and keeps Google's security checks in place.

  1. Make sure your Google account's Play country is the United Kingdom.
  2. Open the Play Store and search the full app name, such as "PlayOJO: Online Casino Games".
  3. Tap the listing and check the developer line matches the table above.
  4. Check the PEGI 18 rating and read the data safety section.
  5. Tap Install. If the button is missing, your phone or account region may not be supported.
  6. Open the app and log in, or sign up and complete age and identity checks before depositing.
  7. Set a deposit limit when the app prompts you before your first deposit.

Casino APK downloads on Android: should you sideload?

An APK is the installer file for an Android app. Before UK casino apps were allowed on Play, operators offered APKs from their websites. Today the Play listing is the safer route for all five of our partners, and we haven't been able to confirm whether any of them still offers a direct APK.

Android makes sideloading a deliberate act. Since Android 8.0, Google has replaced the old "Allow unknown sources" switch with a per-app permission, as described on the Android Developers Blog (opens in a new tab). You approve a specific app, such as your browser, before it can install anything, and you can revoke that later.

Google Play Protect still scans your phone for harmful apps from other sources, and can warn about or remove them, but it can't vouch for a gambling licence. Never install a casino APK sent by text, social media or an unfamiliar site. Our guides to casino APK files and Google Play Protect and casino apps explain the risks.

Google Pay and other deposits on Android casino apps

Google Pay is the Android counterpart to Apple Pay. Coral and Ladbrokes both list it, and their help pages give a £5 minimum deposit for the method; Coral's Google Pay help page (opens in a new tab) also says withdrawals go to the card behind the wallet. Casumo and 10bet don't publish Google Pay as a method, and PlayOJO's help page doesn't name it, so check their cashiers.

Credit cards can't be used for gambling in Great Britain, even inside a wallet app. Some welcome offers also exclude e-wallets such as PayPal, so read the terms first. See Google Pay casino apps and payment methods excluded from bonuses.

Performance, storage and battery on Android

Android phones vary far more than iPhones, from budget handsets with little storage to flagships. Play listings don't publish download sizes in the same way as the App Store, so leave space for the app plus cached game files. On iPhone, the same partner apps range from 25.4 MB to 112.3 MB, which gives a rough idea.

Live casino streams video and will drain the battery and data allowance faster than slots. Strict battery-saving modes can also limit what apps do in the background, so check those settings if an app behaves oddly. If a game freezes, our guide to what happens if your app crashes explains how bets are settled, and clearing a casino app cache fixes many sluggish apps.

Limiting and blocking casino apps on Android phones

Android's Digital Wellbeing tools can put a ceiling on how long a casino app stays open. Google's Digital Wellbeing help page (opens in a new tab) says that when an app timer runs out, the app closes and its icon dims until the timer resets at midnight. Focus mode pauses chosen apps and their notifications.

  1. Open Settings, then Digital Wellbeing & parental controls (the name can vary by phone maker).
  2. Choose the casino app and tap Set timer.
  3. Pick a daily allowance you are comfortable with.
  4. In the casino app itself, set deposit, loss or time limits from your account settings.
  5. For a stronger block, register with GAMSTOP, add a blocking app such as Gamban, or switch on your bank's gambling block.

Choosing the best casino app for your Android phone

All five partner apps are on Play, so your choice comes down to what you play and how you pay. Remember that casino games carry a house edge: at a 4% edge, £100 of total stakes costs £4 on average, and short sessions can swing far more either way.

  • Google Pay users: Coral or Ladbrokes, both with a published £5 minimum.
  • Casino only: Coral, Ladbrokes or PlayOJO.
  • Sport and casino together: Casumo or 10bet.
  • Fewest data permissions on the label: PlayOJO says it neither shares nor collects data.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download casino apps from Google Play in the UK?

Yes, Google Play permits licensed real-money casino apps in the United Kingdom. Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet all have UK Play listings rated PEGI 18. Developers must hold a valid licence and pass Google's gambling application before they can publish. If an app is missing, check your Play country is set to the UK. Our answer to why is a casino app not on Google Play covers the usual reasons.

Is it safe to install a casino APK on my Android phone?

It is riskier than installing from Google Play and rarely necessary for UK apps today. A sideloaded APK skips Play's pre-download safety check and Google's licence vetting, and a tampered file can look identical to the real app. If you do sideload, only use the operator's own website, and remove the install permission afterwards. Our page is it safe to download a casino APK explains the checks.

What Android version do I need for casino apps?

Google Play doesn't publish a minimum Android version on web listings, so none of our partners' requirements are visible there. Instead, Play checks your phone when you open the listing. If the Install button appears, your version is supported; if not, the app won't install. You can usually still play through the operator's mobile website in Chrome. See casino apps on older phones for more help.

Which casino apps accept Google Pay on Android?

Among our partners, Coral and Ladbrokes list Google Pay, each with a published £5 minimum deposit. Withdrawals go back to the card linked to your Google Pay wallet. Casumo and 10bet don't publish Google Pay as a method, and PlayOJO's help page doesn't name it. Credit cards inside Google Pay are refused because credit card gambling is banned in Great Britain. Read can I use Google Pay on a casino app.

Are Android casino apps the same as the iPhone versions?

The account, games and rules are the same, but names, sizes and labels can differ. Ladbrokes swaps the word order of its app name between stores, and Casumo's Android title focuses on casino. Data safety sections on Play are written separately from Apple's privacy labels and don't always match. Payment options differ too: Google Pay on Android, Apple Pay on iPhone. Compare both in iPhone vs Android casino apps.

How do I limit time on a casino app on Android?

Use Digital Wellbeing app timers, which close the app and dim its icon once your daily allowance runs out. Timers reset at midnight, and Focus mode can pause the app and its notifications at set times. Combine this with deposit and time limits inside the casino account itself, which follow you to every device. Our guide to blocking casino apps with Digital Wellbeing walks through it.

Why does my Android casino app ask for location?

Casino apps must stop people using them outside the areas covered by their licence, and Google Play requires that geo-restriction. Neither Google nor the operators say exactly how each app checks, so it may use location permission, your network, or both. Casumo's and 10bet's Play listings say they may collect or share location. You can review the permission in your phone's settings. See do casino apps track your location.

Can I use a casino app on a Huawei phone?

It depends on whether your Huawei phone has Google Play, because UK casino apps are distributed through Play. Some Huawei models are sold without Google Play, and on those the operator's mobile website is usually the practical option. Avoid unofficial app stores or APK mirror sites offering casino apps. Our answer to are casino apps available on Huawei phones explains more.
