Install a casino app on Android

The safest way to install a casino app on Android is through the Google Play Store: search the casino’s exact app name, check the developer and the PEGI 18 rating, then tap Install. Google Play allows licensed real-money casino apps in the UK, so there’s rarely a reason to install one from a downloaded file instead.

Key takeaways

  • Google Play lists the United Kingdom as a country where licensed real-money casino apps are allowed.
  • All five partner apps are on Google Play with a PEGI 18 rating; check the developer name matches the operator.
  • Play listings no longer show a minimum Android version, so Play tells you on your own device whether the app is compatible.
  • Installing an APK means granting an app permission to install unknown apps, which removes the Play Store’s pre-download check.
  • Digital Wellbeing app timers and GAMSTOP can limit or block casino apps on Android.

Install a casino app on Android from Google Play first

Google Play has allowed licensed real-money gambling apps in the UK for years. Its country and region allowances for gambling apps (opens in a new tab) list the United Kingdom for online casino games, sports betting and lotteries, and a Play Console announcement from 28 January 2020 already named the UK among the permitted countries.

That matters because the Play route comes with checks you lose elsewhere. To be listed, an operator has to complete Google’s gambling application and hold a valid licence for each country where the app is distributed. Play Protect also runs a safety check on Play Store apps before you download them.

In practice, every partner we cover is on Google Play. If you want to install a casino app on Android and can’t find it there, treat any other source with care, and read why some casino apps are not on Google Play first.

How to install a casino app on Android: the steps

These steps to install a casino app on Android work on any phone with the Play Store, including Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models.

  1. Open the Google Play Store and sign in with your Google account.
  2. Search for the app’s full Play Store name, for example PlayOJO: Online Casino Games.
  3. Open the listing and check the developer name under the title, plus the PEGI 18 badge.
  4. Scroll to Data safety and read what the app says it collects and shares.
  5. Tap Install. If Play says the app isn’t compatible with your device, it won’t install from the store.
  6. Open the app once it’s installed, then log in or create an account.
  7. Complete the operator’s age and identity checks and set a deposit limit when you’re prompted.

For brand-specific details, see the Coral Android app guide, the Ladbrokes Android app page and the PlayOJO Android app page.

Checking you’ve found the official Android casino app

Before you install a casino app on Android, know that store names and developer names don’t always match the brand you know, so it helps to know what to expect. This is what each partner’s Play listing shows.

Partner casino apps on Google Play (UK)
Play Store nameDeveloper shownRatingApp type
Coral™ Casino: Slots & GamesLC International LimitedPEGI 18Casino-only
Ladbrokes Casino Slots & GamesLadbrokes Mobile Development (contact: LC International Limited)PEGI 18Casino-only

Casumo - Live Casino & SlotsCasumo Services LimitedPEGI 18Casino-focused listing
10bet: Sports Betting & CasinoBlue Star Planet LtdPEGI 18Sportsbook and casino

Ladbrokes is the one to watch: its Android name reads ‘Slots & Games’, while the iPhone app reads ‘Games & Slots’. Both are genuine. Coral and Ladbrokes are licensed to LC International Limited, PlayOJO to Skill On Net Limited, and you can match any name against the UK licensed casino apps we list.

Which Android version you need for a real-money casino app

Here Android differs from iPhone. Google Play no longer shows a minimum Android version on the public listing for any of our partner apps; it only shows compatibility when you view the listing on your own device. So the honest answer is that the minimum version isn’t published in the store, and your phone will tell you.

If the Install button doesn’t appear, or Play says your device isn’t compatible, check for a system update under your phone’s settings. Older handsets that no longer get updates may need the casino’s mobile site instead. Our guide to casino apps on older phones explains the options, and Android phones covers device-specific points.

Reading the Data safety section on a casino app

Every Play listing has a Data safety section written by the developer. It covers what data is collected, what’s shared with third parties, whether data is encrypted in transit and whether you can ask for it to be deleted.

  • Ladbrokes says it shares and collects personal info and app activity.
  • PlayOJO states no data shared and no data collected.
  • Casumo says it may share location and collects personal and financial info, among other data.
  • 10bet says it shares financial info and may collect location.

All of the partner listings above say data is encrypted in transit and that deletion can be requested. Labels are self-declared, so compare them with the operator’s privacy policy. The data safety section glossary entry explains the categories.

Should you install a casino APK on Android?

An APK is the installation file for an Android app. Installing one from a website, rather than through Play, is called sideloading. Since Android 8.0 (Oreo), you have to grant permission to the specific app that opens the file, such as your browser, before it can install anything, and you can revoke that permission later. Google’s Android developers blog post on unknown sources (opens in a new tab) set out that change.

Sideloading skips the Play Store’s pre-download safety check, although Google Play Protect (opens in a new tab) still scans your device for potentially harmful apps from other sources and may warn about, deactivate or remove them. Fake casino APKs are a known route for scams, so only consider an APK if it comes from a UK-licensed operator’s own website and Play isn’t an option.

With UK casino apps available on Google Play, an APK offered by a third-party site, a social media message or an unknown link is a red flag. See is it safe to download a casino APK and casino APK files explained.

Google Play’s rules for UK casino apps

Google’s real-money gambling policy sets the bar every Play-listed casino app has to clear, and it explains much of what you see when you install a casino app on Android. The main conditions are in this table.

What Google Play requires from real-money casino apps
RequirementWhat it means for you
Valid gambling licence for each countryA UK app must be licensed by the Gambling Commission
Block under-age usersAge checks happen before you can play
Block unlicensed locationsThe app may not work outside Great Britain
Free to download, no Play billingDeposits go through the casino’s own cashier
Adults Only rating and 18+ noticeThe listing should show PEGI 18
Responsible gambling statementLinks to local help should be in the app
No install incentives in the listingThe store page itself can’t offer a bonus for installing

The wider picture is in Google Play rules for casino apps, and how casino apps are licensed in the UK explains the Gambling Commission side.

First launch: account, verification and limits

Once you install a casino app on Android and open it, you’ll either log in to an existing account or register. Your existing website account works in the app, with the same balance and limits.

New customers must be age and identity verified before depositing or gambling, under Gambling Commission rules in force since 7 May 2019. Since 31 October 2025, the app must also prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit. Choose a figure you’d be comfortable losing, because over time the house edge means you’re likely to lose more than you win.

Paying in through Google Pay is possible at some casinos. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help pages list Google Pay with a £5 minimum deposit; check the cashier for others. Our guide to depositing with Google Pay in a casino app walks through it.

Limiting or blocking casino apps on an Android phone

Android has built-in tools if you want a casino app on Android to take less of your time. With Digital Wellbeing app timers (opens in a new tab), you set a daily allowance; when it runs out, the app closes and its icon dims until midnight. Focus mode pauses chosen apps and their notifications.

For a firmer barrier, GAMSTOP blocks you from all online gambling companies licensed in Great Britain for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. Gamban is a paid app that blocks gambling sites and apps on Android and other devices, and many banks let you block gambling payments on your debit card. Start with blocking casino apps with Digital Wellbeing or call the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, free and open 24/7.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get real money casino apps on Google Play in the UK?

Yes, Google Play allows licensed real-money casino apps in the United Kingdom. Its country allowances page lists the UK for online casino games, sports betting and lotteries. Operators must hold a valid licence, block under-18s and unlicensed locations, and keep the app free with no Play billing. All five of our partners are on Google Play. See the best casino apps for Android to compare them.

Is it safe to install a casino APK instead of using Google Play?

It carries more risk than installing from Google Play. Sideloading skips the store’s pre-download safety check, and fake casino APKs are used in scams. Play Protect still scans for harmful apps from other sources, but the safest route is the official Play listing. If an APK comes through a link in a message or from an unrelated website, don’t install it. Read is it safe to install a casino APK.

What Android version do casino apps need?

The minimum isn’t published on the public Google Play listings for any of our partner apps. Play now shows compatibility only on your own device, so if the Install button appears, the app supports your phone. If Play says your device isn’t compatible, update Android or use the casino’s mobile site. Our page on casino apps on older phones explains what to do with an ageing handset.

Why does Google Play say a casino app isn’t available?

Usually it’s because your Google account’s country isn’t set to the UK, or you’re outside an area the operator is licensed for. Google requires gambling apps to block access from places their licence doesn’t cover. A device that isn’t compatible can also hide the Install option. Check your Play country, then see why is a casino app not on Google Play for more causes.

Does installing a casino app on Android cost anything?

No, installing is free. Google Play requires real-money gambling apps to be free to download, not sold as paid apps, and bars them from using Play’s in-app billing. Any money you put in goes through the casino’s own cashier, using methods such as debit cards or Google Pay, after age and ID checks. Learn more in do casino apps have in-app purchases.

Do I need to verify my ID after installing a casino app?

Yes, every UK-licensed operator must verify your age and identity before you deposit or gamble, and before you play free demo versions of games. Checks often run automatically using your name, address and date of birth, with documents requested only if needed. Have your details ready when you register. Our guide to how casino apps verify your identity explains the process.

Can I limit how long I spend in a casino app on Android?

Yes, Android’s Digital Wellbeing lets you set a daily app timer, after which the app closes and its icon dims until midnight. The casino app itself must also offer reality checks and limits under UK rules. For a complete break, GAMSTOP blocks all GB-licensed online gambling for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. See block gambling apps on Android.

Will a casino app work on a Samsung phone?

Yes, Samsung Galaxy phones run Android and use the Google Play Store, so the same install steps apply. If Play shows the app as compatible with your phone, you can install it. Samsung devices also have Digital Wellbeing for app timers. Our page on casino apps on Samsung Galaxy covers model-specific points, such as screen sizes and settings locations.
