iPhone vs Android casino apps
iPhone vs Android casino apps differ less in the games than in the shop window around them. The same UK-licensed casinos publish on both, with the same account and rules, but Apple and Google vet them differently, list them under different names, disclose data in different formats, and give you different wallets and blocking tools.
Key takeaways
- Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO all publish real-money apps on both the App Store and Google Play, rated 18+ and PEGI 18.
- iPhone listings state a minimum iOS (18.0 for Coral and Ladbrokes, 15.0 for PlayOJO); Google Play only shows Android compatibility on your device.
- Apple’s privacy label and Google’s data safety section can tell different stories for the same casino, so read the one on your phone.
- Coral and Ladbrokes take both Apple Pay and Google Pay, with a £5 Google Pay minimum; PlayOJO’s help page names Apple Pay but not Google Pay.
- Android allows installs from outside the store, so APK links need extra care; iPhone users install from the App Store.

iPhone vs Android casino apps: the short answer
Neither platform gives better odds, bigger bonuses or faster payouts. A UK casino runs one account on both, the games run the same maths, and the Gambling Commission’s rules apply wherever you play. What you’re really choosing between is two app stores with different rules, labels, wallets and controls.
| Area | iPhone (App Store) | Android (Google Play) |
|---|---|---|
| Where to get the app | App Store | Google Play; installs from outside the store are possible |
| Store gatekeeping | Licence, geo-restriction, free download | Application form, licence per country, geo-restriction, free download |
| Age rating | 18+ | PEGI 18 in the UK |
| System requirement shown | Minimum iOS on the listing | Compatibility shown on your device |
| Data disclosure | Privacy label | Data safety section |
| Phone wallet | Apple Pay | Google Pay |
| Built-in limits | Screen Time | Digital Wellbeing |
Each platform also has its own device guide on this site, and this page belongs to our casino app comparisons section.
Apple vs Google: the rules for real-money casino apps
Both stores allow licensed real-money casino apps in the UK, and both forbid paid downloads and in-app purchases for gambling credit. Your deposits always go through the casino’s own cashier, never through an Apple or Google payment.
Apple’s guideline 5.3.4 says real-money gaming apps must be licensed where used, geo-restricted to those places and free on the App Store, and guideline 5.1.1(ix) expects gambling apps to come from the legal entity that provides the service. Google requires developers to apply, hold a licence for each country, block under-18s and anyone outside the licensed area. Its list of countries allowed for gambling apps (opens in a new tab) includes the United Kingdom for online casino games.
| Rule | Apple App Store | Google Play |
|---|---|---|
| Licence needed | Yes, wherever the app is used | Yes, for each country or territory |
| Geo-restriction | Required | Required |
| Under-18s | 18+ age rating for gambling | App must prevent under-age use; Adults Only rating |
| Price | Must be free | Must be free |
| In-app purchase for credit | Not allowed | Google Play billing not allowed |
| Who can publish | Legal entity providing the service | Licensee named on the application |
| Extra listing rules | Expect extra review time | Responsible gambling statement, 18+ notice, no install incentives |
Age ratings on each store
Apple’s age rating definitions (opens in a new tab) put real-money gambling at 18+, and the newer 13+ and 16+ tiers apply on devices running iOS 26 or later. On Google Play the partner apps carry a PEGI 18 rating. Our guides to Apple App Store rules and Google Play rules cover each policy in full.
Same casino, different listing: partner apps on iPhone and Android
Search for the exact store name, because it isn’t always the same on both platforms. Ladbrokes reverses its word order between stores, and the publisher name changes too.
| Casino | iPhone name and seller | Android name and developer |
|---|---|---|
| Coral | Coral Casino: Slots & Games; Entain | Coral™ Casino: Slots & Games; LC International Limited |
| Ladbrokes | Ladbrokes Casino Games & Slots; Entain | Ladbrokes Casino Slots & Games; Ladbrokes Mobile Development |
| PlayOJO | PlayOJO Real Money Casino; Skill On Net Ltd | PlayOJO: Online Casino Games; Skill On Net Ltd |
All three are standalone casino apps on both platforms, separate from any sportsbook. Coral and Ladbrokes belong to LC International Limited (Entain), licensed under Gambling Commission account 54743; PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, account 39326.
Each app has its own platform page: Coral iPhone app and Coral Android app, Ladbrokes iPhone app and Ladbrokes Android app, PlayOJO iPhone app and PlayOJO Android app.
Which iPhone and Android versions do casino apps need?
On iPhone the requirement is printed on the listing. The Coral and Ladbrokes apps need iOS 18.0 or later; PlayOJO needs iOS 15.0 or later and is much smaller at 25.4 MB, against about 101 MB for the other two.
Google Play’s web listings no longer show a minimum Android version for these apps. Open the listing on your phone instead: Play tells you if the app isn’t compatible with your device. That makes it harder to check an Android requirement in advance, but the answer you get is specific to your handset.
- On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About, and note the iOS version.
- Compare it with the Requires line on the App Store listing, under Compatibility.
- On Android, open the Google Play listing on the phone you’ll use.
- If Play shows the Install button, the app supports your device; if it says the app isn’t compatible, use the casino’s mobile site.
- Before installing, check you have free storage for the download plus updates.

Privacy label vs data safety: reading both sides
Apple shows a privacy label split into data used to track you, data linked to you and data not linked to you. Google shows a data safety section that says what is collected and what is shared. For the same casino the two can look very different, partly because the formats differ and partly because each is written by the developer.
| Casino | iPhone privacy label | Google Play data safety |
|---|---|---|
| Coral | Tracks user content and usage data; links coarse location, contact, financial and other data | Reported as no data collected or shared |
| Ladbrokes | No tracking shown; links financial, contact, identifiers and usage data; precise location not linked | Shares and collects personal info and app activity |
| PlayOJO | Tracks identifiers; device ID not linked; may use location when the app isn’t open | No data shared or collected |
Coral’s Android entry is the odd one out: a casino has to verify your identity and handle payments, so “no data collected” sits uneasily beside the detailed iPhone label. Treat any label as the developer’s own statement, read it on the device you’ll use, and see how to read a casino app privacy label for what each category means.
Apple Pay vs Google Pay in casino apps
Your phone’s wallet is one of the few practical differences you’ll feel every time you deposit. Apple says Apple Pay uses a device account number (opens in a new tab) rather than your card number, and Google says Google Pay uses virtual card numbers (opens in a new tab) protected by your screen lock.
| Detail | Coral | Ladbrokes | PlayOJO |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apple Pay deposits | Yes | Yes | Named on help page |
| Apple Pay withdrawals | Yes | Yes | Check the cashier |
| Google Pay deposits | Yes, £5 minimum | Yes, £5 minimum | Not named; check the cashier |
| Google Pay withdrawals | Yes, £5 minimum, paid to the card behind it | Yes, £5 minimum, paid to the card behind it | Not named |
| Withdrawal fees | None | None | Not published |
Neither wallet is named in the welcome offer exclusions for Coral or Ladbrokes, but Coral excludes certain debit cards and both exclude PayPal, Skrill, Neteller, Paysafe and prepaid cards. A wallet payment draws on the card behind it, so check the full terms before relying on Apple Pay or Google Pay for a qualifying £10. Credit cards can’t be used for gambling in Great Britain, even inside a wallet.
There’s more on Apple’s wallet in Apple Pay casino apps.
Sign-in, updates and APK files: security on each platform
On iPhone, Face ID data stays in the phone’s Secure Enclave and apps are only told whether the check succeeded. None of the partner listings mentions Face ID or Touch ID, so check the app’s settings for a biometric login.
Android’s biggest difference is that it can install apps from outside Google Play. Since Android 8.0, that needs a per-app permission to install unknown apps (opens in a new tab), which you can revoke at any time, and Google Play Protect (opens in a new tab) checks your device for harmful apps from other sources too.
All three partner casinos publish on Google Play, so there’s no reason to install one of their apps from a file. An APK offered by a website, message or social post is a classic route for fake casino apps. Read Google Play Protect and casino apps before you ever accept one.
Blocking casino apps: Screen Time vs Digital Wellbeing
Both platforms have built-in controls, and they work differently. iPhone’s Screen Time can block new app installs through Content & Privacy Restrictions. Android’s Digital Wellbeing sets a daily timer per app: when it runs out, the app closes and its icon dims until midnight.
| Control | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Block installing apps | Screen Time: Installing Apps set to Blocked | Not covered by app timers; Gamban can block gambling apps |
| Daily time limit per app | Check Screen Time settings | App timer; resets at midnight |
| Pause apps and notifications | Check your iPhone settings | Focus mode |
| Cross-device blocker | Gamban | Gamban |
Phone tools are easy to switch off again, so pair them with account limits, a bank gambling block or GAMSTOP if you want a firmer barrier.
Beyond the phone: iPad, Mac, Vision Pro and Android tablets
Apple’s listings show where each iPhone app also runs. Both Entain apps work on iPad, on Macs with Apple M1 or later running macOS 15 and on Apple Vision with visionOS 2.0. PlayOJO goes further back, to macOS 12 and visionOS 1.0, and still lists iPod touch. The Mac versions are marked as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS.
| App | iPad | Mac | Apple Vision |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coral | iPadOS 18.0+ | M1 or later, macOS 15.0+ | visionOS 2.0+ |
| Ladbrokes | iPadOS 18.0+ | M1 or later, macOS 15.0+ | visionOS 2.0+ |
| PlayOJO | iPadOS 15.0+ | M1 or later, macOS 12.0+ | visionOS 1.0+ |
For Android tablets, open the Google Play listing on the tablet itself to see whether it’s supported. Our casino apps on iPad, casino apps on Mac and phone vs tablet pages go further.
iPhone or Android for casino apps: verdict by player
| If you… | Leaning | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Have an older iPhone that stops at iOS 17 | PlayOJO app or a mobile site | Coral and Ladbrokes apps need iOS 18 |
| Want to compare data disclosures in detail | iPhone | Privacy label splits tracking from linked data |
| Use Google Pay for everything | Android with Coral or Ladbrokes | Google Pay listed, £5 minimum |
| Want the strictest install lock | iPhone | Screen Time can block new installs |
| Are tempted by APK download links | Either, but stick to the store | Partner apps are all on Google Play |
| Also play on a Mac or iPad | iPhone | Same app runs across Apple devices |

Frequently asked questions
Are casino apps better on iPhone or Android?
Neither is better for odds, bonuses or payouts, because the casino runs the same account and games on both. The differences are around the app: iPhone listings state the iOS needed and give a more detailed privacy label, while Android adds Google Pay and the option to install from outside the store, which needs care. Our iPhone and Android device pages go into each.
Are real-money casino apps allowed on Google Play in the UK?
Yes. Google Play lists the United Kingdom among the countries where licensed online casino apps are allowed. The developer must apply to Google, hold a valid licence, block under-18s and anyone outside the licensed area, and offer the app free without Google Play billing. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO all publish on Google Play. Our Google Play rules guide explains the policy.
Why does a casino app have a different name on Android?
Each store listing is written separately, so names, word order and publisher can differ. Ladbrokes is Ladbrokes Casino Games & Slots on iPhone and Ladbrokes Casino Slots & Games on Android, and Coral’s Android name carries a trademark symbol. Check the developer matches the licensed operator or its group before installing. Our Ladbrokes Android app page shows the details.
Which Android version do casino apps need?
Google Play’s web listings don’t show a minimum Android version for Coral, Ladbrokes or PlayOJO. Open the listing on your own phone: if the app supports your device you’ll see the Install button, and if not, Play tells you it isn’t compatible. In that case, the casino’s mobile site is the alternative. Our install a casino app on Android guide covers the steps.
Can I use Google Pay in a casino app?
Yes, at Coral and Ladbrokes, whose help pages list Google Pay for deposits and withdrawals with a £5 minimum; withdrawals go to the card behind your Google Pay. PlayOJO’s help page names Apple Pay but not Google Pay, so check its cashier. A wallet can’t be used to fund gambling with a credit card. See Google Pay casino apps.
Is it safe to download a casino APK on Android?
It’s rarely necessary and carries real risk. Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO publish on Google Play, so you don’t need an APK file. Installing from outside the store means granting a browser or file app permission to install unknown apps, and fake casino apps often spread this way. If you ever do, Google Play Protect will scan it. Read is it safe to download a casino APK.
Can I use an iPhone casino app on my Mac or iPad?
Often, yes. The App Store listings for Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO include iPad and Macs with Apple M1 or later, though the Mac versions are marked as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS. The Entain pair need macOS 15; PlayOJO needs macOS 12. Our casino apps on Mac page explains what to expect.
How do I block casino apps on iPhone and Android?
On iPhone, Screen Time’s Content & Privacy Restrictions can block new app installs. On Android, Digital Wellbeing sets a daily timer per app, after which the app closes and its icon dims until midnight. For a stronger barrier, add Gamban, a bank gambling block or GAMSTOP. Our guides to blocking on iPhone and blocking on Android walk through each.
