Google Pay for casino apps

Google Pay is Google’s payment service that lets you pay with a card saved in your Google account or on your Android phone, without typing the card number into each app. In UK casino apps it’s a fast way to deposit from a debit card; Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum and pay Google Pay withdrawals back to the underlying card.

Key takeaways

  • Google Pay charges a card you’ve saved with Google; it doesn’t hold its own balance.
  • Google says a virtual card number replaces your real one when you pay in shops, and a screen lock is required.
  • Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum deposit and £5 minimum withdrawal for Google Pay.
  • Casumo, PlayOJO and 10bet don’t publish Google Pay support, so check their cashiers.
  • Only debit cards should be used: UK gambling by credit card is banned.

What Google Pay is

Google Pay, linked to Google Wallet on Android phones, stores your payment cards so you can pay in shops, on websites and in apps with a couple of taps. When you use it in a casino app, the payment is charged to the card you’ve chosen, so it behaves like a faster debit card payment rather than a separate account.

That’s the main difference from an e-wallet such as PayPal or Skrill, which holds a balance you top up first. It’s the Android counterpart to Apple Pay on iPhone.

Google Pay at Coral and Ladbrokes: the published figures

Coral and Ladbrokes, both run by LC International Limited, give more detail on Google Pay than our other partners. Their help pages agree on every point.

Both brands also limit UK customers to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days, so adding Google Pay alongside a card and PayPal could use up your allowance. More on each is in our Coral Casino Android app and Ladbrokes Casino Android app pages.

Google Pay at other partner apps

Casumo’s published deposit list names Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay, PayPal, Trustly, Paysafecard, Skrill and Instant Banking, but not Google Pay. PlayOJO’s help page names debit cards, Payz, Apple Pay and Trustly. 10bet’s help centre doesn’t list individual methods. In each case, Google Pay support is not published, so open the cashier on your Android phone to see whether it appears.

Depositing with Google Pay on an Android phone

  1. Save a UK debit card in Google Wallet and make sure your phone has a screen lock set.
  2. Open the casino app and go to the cashier.
  3. Pick Google Pay, enter at least the minimum (£5 at Coral and Ladbrokes) and confirm.
  4. Verify with your screen lock or fingerprint if asked.
  5. Check the deposit has reached your balance, and note it in any budget you keep.

Our step-by-step guide to depositing with Google Pay in a casino app covers declined payments and what to do if the option is missing.

How Google Pay keeps card details private

Google’s Google Pay security help page (opens in a new tab) says a randomly generated virtual card number replaces your real card number when you pay in shops, and that Google Pay doesn’t store your card details on your device. A screen lock is required, and a locked phone can’t make purchases.

Google’s page doesn’t mention gambling or fees. For the casino side of security, see our guide to keeping your casino account secure.

Google Pay, credit cards and gambling blocks

Whatever cards you’ve saved with Google, UK-licensed casinos haven’t been allowed to take credit card gambling payments since 14 April 2020. Use a debit card for any deposit.

If you want to stop gambling payments, check how your bank treats phone wallets. HSBC, for one, says its debit card gambling restriction covers digital wallets. Our gambling blocks on banking apps guide compares the main banks, and Android users can also limit app time with Digital Wellbeing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Google Pay on UK casino apps?

Yes, at some. Coral and Ladbrokes both list Google Pay for deposits and withdrawals, with a £5 minimum each way. Casumo, PlayOJO and 10bet don’t publish Google Pay support, so you’d need to check their cashiers. Google Pay charges the card you’ve saved, so use a debit card. Our Google Pay payments guide explains the method in more detail.

Where do Google Pay withdrawals go?

At Coral and Ladbrokes, Google Pay withdrawals are paid to the card that sits behind Google Pay rather than to a Google balance. That means the money arrives in the bank account linked to that debit card, after the operator’s approval and the card payment time. Both say the minimum withdrawal is £5 and they charge no withdrawal fees. Our withdrawal guide explains each stage.

What is the minimum Google Pay deposit at a casino app?

Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum for Google Pay, which matches their Pay by Bank minimum. That’s below the £10 needed to qualify for their welcome offers. Other partners don’t publish a Google Pay figure. Small deposits can help you keep to a budget, but set a deposit limit too. See our page on whether you can deposit £5 on a casino app.

Is Google Pay safe for gambling deposits?

Google says it replaces your card number with a randomly generated virtual number when you pay in shops, doesn’t store card details on the device, and requires a screen lock. The casino app still applies its own login and verification. Keep your phone locked and use two-step verification on your casino account. Our guide to two-factor authentication for casino accounts shows how.

Does Google Pay work on iPhone casino apps?

Casino apps on iPhone usually offer Apple Pay instead, as that’s Apple’s built-in wallet. Google Pay is most closely tied to Android phones, where cards sit in Google Wallet. If you use an iPhone, look for Apple Pay in the cashier or use a debit card directly. Our Apple Pay entry and the iPhone casino apps page cover the iOS side.
