Minimum deposit: what it means

A minimum deposit is the smallest amount a casino app will accept in a single payment, and it can vary by payment method. It's not the same as the amount needed to qualify for a welcome offer: Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum for some methods, for example, while their spin offers ask for £10 of slot play.

Key takeaways

  • The minimum deposit is set per casino and often per payment method.
  • A bonus's qualifying amount can be higher than the cashier minimum.
  • Coral and Ladbrokes publish £5 for Google Pay and Pay by Bank; Casumo states £10 for all methods.
  • You'll be prompted to set a deposit limit before your first deposit.
  • Credit cards can't be used, including through card-funded e-wallets.

What minimum deposit means

Every cashier has a floor. Try to pay in less and the app will refuse the payment. Some operators set one figure for every method; others set different figures for cards, e-wallets, open banking and vouchers, and show them in the cashier.

It's a payment term, not a bonus term, although the two are often confused. Both are defined in our casino app glossary, and our hub on casino app payment methods covers each method in turn.

Three different minimums you might see

Minimums that affect a first deposit
MinimumWhat it controlsExample
Cashier minimumThe smallest payment the app accepts at allCoral and Ladbrokes say the general figure is displayed in the cashier
Method minimumThe smallest payment for one method£5 for Google Pay and Pay by Bank at Coral and Ladbrokes
Bonus qualifying amountWhat you must deposit or stake to get an offer£10 first deposit for PlayOJO's spins; £20 for Casumo's match

The practical lesson: depositing the cashier minimum may not trigger a welcome offer. If the offer matters to you, check its qualifying figure as well.

What to watch with a small deposit

  • Method choice. A voucher such as paysafecard is sold in fixed UK values starting at £10, so it can't make a £5 deposit. See paysafecard casino apps.
  • Bonus exclusions. E-wallets and prepaid cards often don't qualify for welcome offers even when they're accepted for deposits.
  • Small withdrawals. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10, which matters if a small balance is all you have left.
  • No credit. Credit cards have been banned for gambling in Great Britain since 14 April 2020, including through e-wallets loaded by credit card. Our credit card ban page explains it.

UK rules around your first deposit

Three rules sit around that first payment, whatever its size:

  • Verification first. You must pass age and identity checks before you can deposit. See KYC.
  • A limit prompt. Since 31 October 2025, operators must ask you to set a financial limit before your first deposit, with setting one as the default and no pre-filled amounts. The Commission's deposit limit announcement (opens in a new tab) explains the change.
  • Spend checks. Since 28 February 2025, a light financial vulnerability check applies once your deposits minus withdrawals pass £150 in a rolling 30 days.

None of these should stop a normal first deposit. They exist to keep spending within limits you choose.

How to find the minimum deposit in an app

  1. Sign in and open the app's cashier or deposit screen.
  2. Pick the payment method you plan to use; the minimum for that method is normally shown there.
  3. If no figure appears, search the operator's help pages for the method's name.
  4. Compare it with the qualifying amount in any offer you want, before you pay.

Our guide to a first deposit in a casino app adds what to expect after the payment goes through.

  • Deposit limit: a cap you set on how much you can pay in.
  • Net deposits: deposits minus withdrawals, used for spend checks.
  • Welcome bonus: offers whose qualifying amount may sit above the minimum.
  • Withdrawal: taking money back out, with its own minimums.

Frequently asked questions

What is the usual minimum deposit on UK casino apps?

There's no single figure, because each operator sets its own and many vary it by method. Among our partners, Coral and Ladbrokes publish £5 for Google Pay and Pay by Bank, and Casumo states £10 for all methods. PlayOJO and 10bet don't publish a figure, so check the cashier. Our answer to what is the minimum deposit on casino apps? goes into more detail.

Can I deposit £5 on a casino app?

At some apps, with some methods. Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum for Google Pay and Pay by Bank. A £5 deposit may not qualify for a welcome offer, though, since partner offers ask for £10 of deposit or slot play. Vouchers such as paysafecard start at £10. Our answer on depositing £5 on a casino app lists what to check.

Is the minimum deposit the same for every payment method?

Not always. Some operators apply one figure across the board, as Casumo says it does at £10, while others publish different minimums per method. Coral and Ladbrokes give £5 for Google Pay and Pay by Bank and show their general minimum in the cashier. Our guide to casino app minimum deposits compares methods in more depth.

Why does a bonus need more than the minimum deposit?

Because the bonus and the cashier are set separately. The operator decides what qualifying deposit or stake earns an offer, and it's often higher than the smallest payment the cashier accepts. Casumo's £10 cashier minimum sits below its £20 offer requirement, for instance. Our welcome bonus entry explains how qualifying steps work and what else to read.

Do I have to set a deposit limit before my first deposit?

You must be asked. Since 31 October 2025, operators have had to prompt customers to set a financial limit before their first deposit, with setting a limit as the default; opting out has to be confirmed. Decreases take effect immediately. Our guide to setting deposit limits in a casino app explains how to choose one that fits your budget.

Can I use a credit card to meet the minimum deposit?

No. Credit cards can't be used to gamble in Great Britain, a ban in force since 14 April 2020. It also covers e-wallets topped up with a credit card. Use a debit card or another accepted method instead. Our page on the gambling credit card ban sets out the rule and the reasons behind it.
