Casino lobby: what it means
The lobby in a casino app is the main screen where the games are listed, sorted into categories and opened. It’s the app’s shop window: slots, table games and live tables all start here, and how well the lobby is organised decides how quickly you find a game and its rules, including the RTP in its help screen.
Key takeaways
- The lobby is the screen listing a casino app’s games, usually with categories, search and recently played.
- A live casino lobby lists streamed tables and game shows rather than RNG games.
- Lobbies can be personalised, which is one reason privacy labels list usage data and search history.
- The lobby shows what’s on offer; each game’s help screen shows its rules and RTP.
- UK apps let you play one casino game at a time, so you return to the lobby to switch.
- Also called
- Game lobby, casino lobby
- Live version
- Live casino lobby
- Where RTP sits
- In each game’s help or info screen
- Games at once
- One (UK rule since 17 January 2025)
- Demo play
- Needs age verification first
What the lobby is in a casino app
The word comes from land-based casinos, where the lobby is the entrance area you pass through before choosing a table. In an app, the lobby is the home screen of the casino section: rows or tiles of games, grouped into categories such as slots, jackpots, table games and live casino.
Most lobbies also offer a search bar, a recently played row and some form of filter. Tapping a tile opens the game itself. To move to a different game you go back to the lobby, because UK rules no longer let casino apps run several games side by side.
What a typical game lobby contains
Exact layouts vary and change with app updates, so the table below describes common elements rather than any one app’s menus.
| Lobby element | What it’s for | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Category rows | Group games by type, such as slots or live casino | A game can appear in several rows |
| Search | Find a game by name | Type the exact name, as titles can be similar |
| Recently played | Reopen games you used before | A reminder of how often you return |
| Promoted tiles | Highlight new or featured games | Placement is commercial, not a quality rating |
| Jackpot displays | Show running prize amounts | A big figure doesn’t change your odds per spin |
| Live casino tab | Lists streamed tables and game shows | Tables can have set stake ranges and seat limits |
What partner app listings say about their lobbies
Store listings give a broad outline of what each app’s lobby holds. They don’t describe layouts, and game numbers come from the operators’ own descriptions, so treat them as approximate.
| App | Listing mentions | App type |
|---|---|---|
| Coral Casino | Slots including MEGAWAYS and classic fruit machines, blackjack, roulette, live casino | Standalone casino app |
| Ladbrokes Casino | 1,800+ slots, blackjack, roulette, live casino including game shows | Standalone casino app |
| PlayOJO | Slots, jackpot slots, bingo, table games, live casino | Casino-only brand |
| Casumo | Slots and live casino, plus Quick Launch of the last four slots played | Combined casino and sportsbook on iOS |
| 10bet | 2,000+ slots (App Store) or 3,000+ casino games (Google Play), plus live tables | Combined sportsbook and casino |
The Ladbrokes Casino App Store listing (opens in a new tab) and the Coral Casino App Store listing (opens in a new tab) are the sources for those two rows. For a fuller look, see our pages on the Coral Casino app games, Ladbrokes Casino app games and PlayOJO app games.
The live casino lobby
A live lobby works differently from the RNG lobby. Instead of game tiles that start instantly, it lists tables streamed from a studio, each with a live dealer or host, a stake range and often a seat count for games like blackjack. Game shows appear here too.
Because live tables stream video, the live lobby is the part of an app that uses the most data. Our guide to playing live casino on mobile data explains what affects usage.
Using the lobby to check a game before you play
The lobby tells you what’s available; it rarely tells you what a game costs to play. That information lives inside the game.
- Search for the game in the lobby by its exact name.
- Open it and look for an info, help or paytable icon before placing a bet.
- Read the RTP and the rules. Some games are released in more than one RTP version, so the figure in the help screen is the one that applies.
- Check the stake range and, for slots, remember the UK limit of £5 per spin (25 and over) or £2 (18–24).
- Go back to the lobby if the game isn’t what you expected.
Our guide to finding a game’s RTP in an app goes into more detail, and the RTP entry explains the number itself.
Personalised lobbies and your data
Many lobbies reorder games based on what you play. That uses data about your activity, which is why app privacy labels matter. Coral’s iPhone listing, for example, lists Search History and Usage Data among the data linked to you, and Usage Data among the data used to track you.
If that bothers you, read the app’s privacy label before installing, and see our guide to how casino apps use your data.
UK rules you’ll notice in the lobby
Three Gambling Commission rules affect how you move around a lobby. Since 17 January 2025 you can’t play several casino games at once, a rule that already covered slots. Your net spend and time played must be shown in real time while you play. And age and identity checks must be completed before you gamble, including before using demo mode on free-to-play versions of games.
The Commission’s responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab) sets out the one-game-at-a-time rule. Other lobby terms worth knowing are game provider, paytable and progressive jackpot, all in our casino glossary.

Frequently asked questions
What is the lobby in a casino app?
The lobby is the main screen of a casino app where its games are listed and grouped, usually with categories, a search bar and a recently played row. You open any slot, table game or live table from there. It shows what the app offers but not what each game costs to play, so open a game’s help screen to see its RTP and rules. Our guide to choosing a casino app covers what a good lobby looks like.
Is the app lobby the same as the website lobby?
Often the games overlap, but the layout and some features can differ between an app and the mobile website. Your account, balance and limits are normally shared across both, since they belong to the same licensed operator. Game availability can vary, so search for a specific title in both if it matters to you. Our question page on whether casino apps are the same as the website explains the usual differences.
Why does my casino app lobby show different games from my friend’s?
Many lobbies are personalised, ordering games based on what each account has played or searched for. Promotions can also be targeted, and the app version or device can change what’s displayed. The underlying game list may be the same even when the order differs. If you want to know what data powers this, check the app’s privacy label in the store, or read our privacy label guide.
Can I open two games from the lobby at once?
No, not in a UK-licensed casino app. Since 17 January 2025 the Gambling Commission’s rules have banned features that let you play multiple casino games at the same time, extending a rule that already applied to slots. You need to close one game and return to the lobby before opening another. Our page on playing two casino games at once covers the rule in more detail.
Does a game’s position in the lobby mean it pays better?
No. Where a game sits in the lobby is a design and commercial decision, not a sign of a higher RTP or better odds. New releases, jackpot games and promoted titles are often placed near the top. The only reliable guide to a game’s return is the RTP in its own help screen, which can differ between versions of the same game. See our explainer on whether RTP is lower on casino apps.
Do I have to verify my age to browse the lobby?
You can usually see the lobby before signing up, but you must pass age and identity checks before you can deposit or gamble. UK rules also require age verification before you play free-to-play demo versions of gambling games. That means the lobby may look open while games stay locked until verification is done. Our age verification guide explains how apps carry out those checks.
