Jackpot King explained

Jackpot King is Blueprint Gaming's linked progressive jackpot: many Blueprint slots pay into one shared prize pool, and landing five or six Jackpot King symbols on a base-game spin starts a bonus that can end in one of three progressive prizes. You'll usually find it as a separate jackpot version of a familiar Blueprint game.

Key takeaways

  • One shared pool links a wide range of Blueprint Gaming slots.
  • Five or six Jackpot King symbols anywhere on a base-game spin start the bonus; no payline is needed.
  • Collect 15 or more crowns to reach the Wheel King, which awards a multiplier or one of three jackpots.
  • Jackpot King versions can carry a lower RTP than the standard game, so check the help screen.

What Jackpot King means on a slot

When a slot title carries the Jackpot King name, it's plugged into a jackpot system built by Blueprint Gaming, the Newark-based studio owned by the Merkur Group. Spins on every linked game feed the same prizes, so the pots grow faster than they would on one game alone.

It's a studio-level version of the progressive jackpot idea. A network jackpot such as Mega Moolah is shared by many casinos running one family of games; Jackpot King is shared across a large catalogue of different Blueprint slots. According to OLBG's history of the system, the first linked titles, Genie Jackpots, Cop the Lot and Fruitinator, went live in September 2016.

The jackpot sits on top of each game's normal features. You still play the base slot as usual, and the Jackpot King bonus is an extra layer that can start on any paid base-game spin.

How the Jackpot King bonus works, step by step

OLBG's guide to Jackpot King slots (opens in a new tab) describes the route to the prizes like this:

  1. Play a normal paid spin in the base game of a Jackpot King slot.
  2. Land five or six Jackpot King symbols anywhere on the reels. They work like scatters, so they don't need to sit on a payline.
  3. The Jackpot King bonus starts, and you collect crowns.
  4. Gather 15 or more crowns to move on to the Wheel King.
  5. Spin the Wheel King, which awards either a win multiplier or one of the three progressive jackpots.

Fewer than 15 crowns means the bonus ends without reaching the wheel. Each game's help screen sets out the exact crown values and wheel segments for that title, and these can differ, so read it before you play rather than relying on a general description.

The three Jackpot King prize tiers

There are three linked pots. OLBG lists their starting values, and the must-win caps on the two smaller pots come from Blueprint's Jackpot King Deluxe launch.

Jackpot King tiers
TierStarting value (OLBG)CapWhat the cap means
Royal£500Must be won before £3,500Pays out before it reaches the cap
Regal£5,000Must be won before £35,000Pays out before it reaches the cap
Jackpot King£50,000No capKeeps growing until it's won

A cap on a pot doesn't mean any particular player is close to winning it. Thousands of spins across many games feed each tier, and your share of the chances depends on your own stakes, not on how near a pot is to its ceiling.

Jackpot King Deluxe and Jackpot King Prize Lines

The system has changed shape twice since launch.

  • Jackpot King Deluxe (September 2018). Blueprint made the Royal and Regal pots must-win, paying out before reaching £3,500 and £35,000. The main Jackpot King pot stayed as it was. CasinoBeats covered the Jackpot King Deluxe launch (opens in a new tab) at the time.
  • Jackpot King Prize Lines (2021). For the first time, Jackpot King became a game in its own right rather than a layer added to another slot. Intergame reported the Prize Lines launch (opens in a new tab) when it happened.

Blueprint also licenses Big Time Gaming's Megaways mechanic, so some titles combine both. Deal or No Deal Megaways, for example, pairs a cascade-triggered Deal or No Deal bonus with a Jackpot King progressive.

Jackpot King RTP versus the standard game

Because part of each stake goes into the shared pots, a Jackpot King version can return less from ordinary wins than its standard twin. King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas shows the gap clearly.

Published RTPs for Jackpot King titles
SlotStandard RTPJackpot King RTPExpected cost per £100 staked (JK version)
King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas96%94.99%About £5.01
Genie JackpotsNot applicable (JK title)96.49%; one operator offers 92.73%About £3.51, or £7.27 on the lower version

On King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas, £100 of spins costs about £4 on average in the standard game and about £5.01 in the Jackpot King version, figures from OLBG's listing of the Jackpot King version (opens in a new tab). That extra pound or so is what you give up from the base game in exchange for a shot at the pooled prizes.

Genie Jackpots shows a second point: the same game can run at different RTP settings at different casinos. Always check the figure in the game's help screen, and see our guide to finding a game's RTP in an app. The RTP entry explains what these percentages do and don't promise.

Jackpot King in UK casino apps

Blueprint holds a Gambling Commission licence, and Jackpot King games are slots, so the full UK slot rulebook applies in an app:

  • a stake cap of £5 a spin from age 25, or £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds, under the slot stake limits;
  • no autoplay, no turbo or slam-stop, and at least 2.5 seconds between spins;
  • no celebrating a return that's equal to or less than your stake;
  • jackpot rules, seed and ceiling values shown before you play, under RTS 9.

Which apps carry Jackpot King titles changes over time, and our partners' published app details don't list it by name, so check the app's game lobby. Our list of apps with Jackpot King slots and the short answer to what is Jackpot King? are good next stops, along with jackpot slots on mobile.

Jackpot King sits alongside several other words in our casino app glossary: the general jackpot entry, Drops and Wins for Pragmatic Play's network promotions, and volatility for why jackpot slots can go long spells without a big win.

Frequently asked questions

What is Jackpot King on a slot?

It's a progressive jackpot system run by Blueprint Gaming that links many of its slots to three shared prize pots. If you land five or six Jackpot King symbols on a base-game spin, a crown-collecting bonus starts, and 15 or more crowns take you to the Wheel King for a multiplier or one of the jackpots. Our short answer to what is Jackpot King? covers the essentials.

How do you trigger the Jackpot King bonus?

You need five or six Jackpot King symbols anywhere on the reels during a paid base-game spin. They don't have to line up on a payline. Once the bonus starts, you collect crowns, and reaching 15 or more moves you to the Wheel King. The trigger can't be bought, and nothing you do changes the odds of it landing. Our slots on mobile guide explains scatter-style symbols.

How much can you win on Jackpot King?

That depends on the current size of the pots. OLBG lists starting values of £500 for Royal, £5,000 for Regal and £50,000 for the top Jackpot King pot. Royal must be won before £3,500 and Regal before £35,000, while the top pot has no cap. The Wheel King can also award a win multiplier instead of a jackpot. See progressive jackpot for how pots grow.

Is the RTP lower on Jackpot King slots?

It can be. King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas lists 96% in its standard version and 94.99% in its Jackpot King version, because part of each stake funds the shared pots. Some games also run at different RTP settings at different casinos. Check the help screen in the app you use, and our guide to finding a game's RTP in an app shows where to look.

Which casino apps have Jackpot King slots?

Many UK apps carry Blueprint games, but the line-up changes and our partners' published app details don't name Jackpot King, so check each app's game lobby before you sign up. Searching the lobby for a Blueprint title is usually the quickest way to see whether a jackpot version is listed. Our ranking of apps with Jackpot King slots is the place to compare options.
