Standalone casino app vs sportsbook app

Standalone casino app vs sportsbook app comes down to what sits on your home screen, not the odds. A dedicated casino app keeps slots and tables apart from betting, while a combined sportsbook app puts both behind one icon. The games cost the same either way; what changes is the download, the data label, how bonuses are framed and how precisely you can limit or block the casino side.

Key takeaways

  • Coral and Ladbrokes publish casino apps separate from their sportsbook apps; PlayOJO is casino-only.
  • Casumo on iPhone and 10bet combine casino and sports betting in a single app.
  • Standalone doesn’t mean smaller: Coral’s casino app is 101.6 MB, Casumo’s combined iPhone app is 52.5 MB.
  • Since 19 January 2026, promotions that mix betting and casino products are banned in Great Britain.
  • A separate casino app is easier to time-limit or delete without touching a betting app.

Standalone casino app vs sportsbook app: the short answer

If you only play slots and table games, a standalone casino app is usually the tidier choice. It holds one product, its store listing describes one product, and you can limit or remove it without affecting anything else on your phone.

A sportsbook app with a casino tab suits someone who already bets on sport and wants one login and one icon. The trade-off is that the casino sits one tap away from the betting slip, and any limit you set on the app itself covers both.

Neither type changes the maths. A slot or roulette game behaves the same in either wrapper, so the house edge still means losses are likely over time. For the wider question of whether to install anything at all, see our casino app vs mobile site comparison, and browse every matchup on the casino app comparisons hub.

How to tell if a casino app is standalone before you download

Store titles are the quickest clue. A name like “Coral Casino: Slots & Games” signals a dedicated app, while “10bet: Sports Betting & Casino” tells you the casino is part of something bigger. The category line and the description fill in the rest.

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play and search for the brand name.
  2. Read the full app title, not just the icon. Look for the words “Sports” or “Betting” next to “Casino”.
  3. Check the category: on the App Store, 10bet’s app sits under Sports, while Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and Casumo sit under Casino.
  4. Confirm the publisher matches the licensed operator, for example LC International Limited or Entain for Coral and Ladbrokes.
  5. Scroll the description for sports features such as in-play betting or Cash Out, which point to a combined app.
  6. If the brand lists two apps, pick the one whose title names casino or slots.

Casumo’s Android title, “Casumo - Live Casino & Slots”, reads as casino-focused even though its iPhone app is combined. Read the Google Play description to see what the Android version includes.

Our standalone casino apps list ranks the casino-only downloads, and the sports and casino apps list covers the combined ones.

Download size, iOS version and publisher compared

Many people assume a casino-only app must be the lighter download. The App Store listings don’t support that. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ dedicated casino apps are both just over 100 MB, while Casumo fits casino and sports into 52.5 MB. PlayOJO is the smallest of the five at 25.4 MB.

The bigger practical difference is the iOS version. Both Entain casino apps need iOS 18.0 or later, so an older iPhone that can’t update may be shut out of them while still running PlayOJO or Casumo, which need iOS 15.0. Our guide to which iOS version casino apps need explains how to check yours.

If you already have a brand’s sportsbook app and add its casino app too, you are storing two apps from one operator. Our page on casino app storage space covers how to see what each one takes up.

Privacy labels: does a sportsbook app collect more data?

Not in any consistent way. Apple’s privacy labels for the five partner apps show that the type of app tells you very little about how much data it links to you. Each label reflects that operator’s own choices.

App Store privacy labels by app type
AppTypeUsed to track youLinked to you (summary)
CoralStandalone casinoUser Content, Usage DataLocation (coarse), contact, financial, identifiers, usage and more
LadbrokesStandalone casinoNo tracking category shownFinancial, contact, user content, search history, identifiers, usage
PlayOJOCasino-only brandIdentifiersNothing linked; device ID not linked to you
CasumoCombinedIdentifiers, Usage Data, DiagnosticsFinancial, contact, user content, identifiers, usage, diagnostics
10betCombinedUsage DataFinancial Info, Contact Info

PlayOJO’s label is the lightest, and its iOS listing also warns that the app may use your location even when it isn’t open. Coral’s standalone casino app has a longer “linked to you” list than 10bet’s combined app. Read the label for the specific app, using our guide on how to read a casino app privacy label.

Bonuses in a sportsbook app vs a standalone casino app

The rules on offers changed on 19 January 2026. The Gambling Commission capped bonus wagering at 10 times the bonus and banned promotions that mix gambling products, such as betting plus slots. Its announcement on safer, simpler promotions (opens in a new tab) sets out both changes.

For a combined app, that means a single offer can no longer require a sports bet to release casino spins, or the other way round. Each promotion has to stay inside one product. 10bet, for example, asks new customers to choose the casino welcome bonus at sign-up if that’s the one they want.

In a standalone casino app, every promotion is a casino promotion, so there’s less to sort through. The partner offers on this page are all slot offers. Bonuses and spins are generally not usable on blackjack, roulette or live tables, which are often excluded or count for less, so check the terms. Our page on the mixed-product bonus ban explains the rule in full, and the 10x wagering cap page shows how it’s calculated.

What a casino tab costs per hour, whichever app it lives in

A slot inside 10bet’s sportsbook app and the same slot in a standalone app run under the same UK rules, so the cost works out the same way. The formula is expected loss = stake × house edge × number of spins.

Take a slot with a 96% RTP, which means a 4% house edge (check the game’s help screen for the version you’re playing). At 20p a spin, each spin costs 0.8p on average. UK rules require at least 2.5 seconds per slot spin, which caps the pace at 1,440 spins an hour.

Average cost of a 96% RTP slot at 20p a spin
Spins in a sessionTotal stakedAverage loss (4%)
100£20£0.80
600£120£4.80
1,440 (the maximum pace for an hour)£288£11.52

Those are averages over a very large number of spins. Real sessions swing well above and below them, and no betting pattern changes the edge. Apps don’t carry worse RTP by default, but games can come in more than one version; our page on whether RTP is lower on casino apps explains how to check.

Payments and withdrawals in each type of app

Payment rules are set at account and operator level, not by the type of app. Here is what each partner publishes.

Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £2,000 cap per deposit and a £5 minimum for Pay by Bank and Google Pay deposits. Both operators also run a closed-loop policy, so winnings go back to the method you paid in with where possible. More detail is on the Coral withdrawals page and in our guide to how long casino app withdrawals take.

Games and support in standalone and combined apps

Store descriptions give a rough idea of what each app carries. Game counts vary by source, so treat them as approximate and check the app’s game lobby for anything specific.

A combined app has to fit a whole sportsbook into its menus, so the casino is often one section among several. A standalone casino app gives its lobby the whole screen. Neither is a guarantee of a better game choice; compare the lobbies on the Coral games page and the 10bet casino app review.

Blocking a casino app without losing your betting app

This is where the two types differ most. When the casino is its own app, phone-level tools can target it on its own. When it lives inside a sportsbook app, any limit you set on the device applies to both.

  • Android app timers: Google’s Digital Wellbeing app timers (opens in a new tab) close an app when its daily allowance runs out and dim its icon. A timer on a standalone casino app leaves a separate betting app untouched.
  • iPhone restrictions: Apple’s Content & Privacy Restrictions (opens in a new tab) work by age rating. Both kinds of app are rated 18+, so an age-rating restriction catches betting and casino apps alike.
  • Marketing choices: since 1 May 2025, the Commission’s direct marketing rules (opens in a new tab) say online operators must let you choose which products, such as betting, casino or bingo, they market to you. You can switch off casino marketing and keep sports updates.
  • Account tools: deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion are set with the operator, and the scope depends on the operator. Check its help pages.

If you want to stop gambling altogether rather than one product, GAMSTOP blocks every online operator licensed in Great Britain for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years. For device steps, see blocking casino apps with Digital Wellbeing and our Coral safer gambling tools page.

Standalone casino app vs sportsbook app: verdict by player type

  • Slots and tables only: a standalone app such as Coral, Ladbrokes or PlayOJO keeps the lobby uncluttered and the offers casino-only.
  • Already bet on football or racing: a combined app like 10bet or Casumo saves a second download and a second login.
  • Want firm limits on the casino side: pick a standalone app so device timers and deletion affect only the casino.
  • Older iPhone: PlayOJO and Casumo need iOS 15.0, while Coral and Ladbrokes need iOS 18.0.
  • Short on storage: PlayOJO is the lightest at 25.4 MB; 10bet is the largest at 112.3 MB.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so you may not be able to open new accounts with both. Spins are entertainment with a set value, not a way to make money.

Frequently asked questions

Is a standalone casino app better than a sportsbook app?

It’s better if you only want casino games and like firm boundaries. A standalone app keeps the lobby and the offers casino-only, and you can time-limit or delete it without touching a betting app. A sportsbook app with a casino suits people who already bet and prefer one login. The games run under the same UK rules either way. Our standalone casino apps ranking lists the casino-only downloads.

Does Coral have a separate casino app from its sportsbook app?

Yes. Coral publishes “Coral Casino: Slots & Games” on the App Store, separate from its sportsbook app, under the Casino category. It needs iOS 18.0 or later and is 101.6 MB. On Google Play it appears as “Coral™ Casino: Slots & Games” from LC International Limited. The Coral casino app review covers games, payments and safer-gambling tools in detail.

Is the 10bet app a standalone casino app?

No. 10bet offers one combined app, “10bet: Sports Betting & Casino”, listed under Sports on the App Store and needing iOS 16.0 or later. The listing describes in-play betting, Cash Out and Bet Builder alongside slots and live casino tables. At 112.3 MB it is also the largest of our five partner apps. See the 10bet iPhone app page for the full details.

Can a sportsbook app offer a bet-and-spin welcome bonus?

Not in Great Britain since 19 January 2026. From that date the Gambling Commission banned promotions that mix gambling products, such as betting plus slots, and capped bonus wagering at 10 times the bonus. A combined app can still run separate sports and casino offers, but each must stand alone. Our page on the mixed-product bonus ban explains what changed and why.

Are casino games the same inside a sportsbook app?

They run under the same UK rules, including the 2.5-second minimum slot spin and the stake limits, so the maths works the same way. The RTP depends on the game version the operator chooses, not on whether the app also takes sports bets. Check the game’s help screen for its RTP. Our guide on finding a game’s RTP in an app shows where it usually sits.

Can I block the casino app but keep my betting app?

Yes, if the casino is a separate app. On Android, a Digital Wellbeing app timer can limit only the casino app, and on any phone you can simply delete it. If the casino sits inside your sportsbook app, device limits affect both. GAMSTOP and Gamban block all gambling, not one product. See blocking gambling apps on Android for step-by-step help.

Is a standalone casino app a smaller download?

Not necessarily. Coral’s dedicated casino app is 101.6 MB and Ladbrokes’ is 101.2 MB, while Casumo’s combined iPhone app is 52.5 MB. PlayOJO, a casino-only brand, is the smallest of our partners at 25.4 MB, and 10bet’s combined app is the largest at 112.3 MB. Our list of casino apps with the smallest download ranks them by size.

Is the Casumo app casino-only?

Not on iPhone. The App Store listing is “Casumo Casino & Sports Betting”, a single app that combines both. On Google Play the title is “Casumo - Live Casino & Slots”, which reads as casino-focused, so check the description to see what the Android version includes. Casumo’s iPhone listing mentions Face ID and Touch ID login and Apple Pay. Read the Casumo app review for more.
