How to read a casino app privacy label

How to read a casino app privacy label: start with what is used to track you, then what is linked to your identity, then what is collected anonymously. Casino apps must hold financial and identity data by law, so the useful questions are about tracking, location and marketing. Here’s how to read both store labels, with five UK apps compared.

Key takeaways

  • On the App Store, read Data Used to Track You first: it’s the section that reaches beyond the casino itself.
  • Financial, contact and identity data are expected in a real-money casino app because of UK age and ID checks.
  • Labels are declared by the developer, and iOS and Android labels for the same brand don’t always match.
  • Among five UK casino apps, PlayOJO’s iOS label is the shortest and Ladbrokes shows no tracking category.
  • You choose which marketing channels a UK operator can use, whatever the label says.

What a casino app privacy label is

A privacy label is a summary on the app’s store page of what data the app collects and how it’s used. On the Apple App Store it’s called App Privacy; on Google Play it’s the Data safety section. Our glossary entries on the privacy label and the data safety section give the short definitions.

Both labels are declared by the developer rather than measured by the store. That makes them a useful starting point, not a guarantee of what happens inside the app. Reading them side by side with the operator’s privacy policy gives the fuller picture.

For casino apps, the label also has to be read against UK rules. Operators must verify your age and identity before you can gamble, and Apple and Google both require real-money gambling apps to be geo-restricted to where they’re licensed. Some data collection is therefore a legal requirement, not a choice.

How to read a casino app privacy label on the App Store

Apple splits the label into up to three tiers. Read them in this order, because each one is less intrusive than the last.

  1. Open the casino app’s App Store page and scroll to App Privacy.
  2. Read Data Used to Track You first. In Apple’s terms, tracking broadly means linking the app’s data with data from other companies, usually for advertising. This is the tier that reaches furthest beyond the casino.
  3. Read Data Linked to You next. This is data tied to your account or identity, such as contact and financial details.
  4. Read Data Not Linked to You last. This is collected without being tied to you, often diagnostics.
  5. Tap through to see the purpose given for each data type, such as app functionality, analytics or product personalisation.
  6. Check the listing for any separate note on location, such as use while the app isn’t open.

If the app asks permission to track you when you first open it, you can refuse. A UK-licensed casino app doesn’t need cross-app tracking to let you play, verify your account or withdraw.

Data types on a casino app privacy label, explained

The same category names appear across most casino app labels. Here’s what each usually means in a gambling context.

Common privacy label categories in casino apps
CategoryWhat it coversWhy a casino app might need it
Contact InfoName, email, phone number, addressAccount, identity checks and marketing you consent to
Financial InfoPayment details and historyDeposits, withdrawals and checks on spending
IdentifiersUser ID or device IDLogging in, fraud checks; tracking if listed in the top tier
LocationCoarse (area) or preciseShowing that you’re where the operator is licensed
Usage DataHow you use the appAnalytics, personalisation and spotting harmful play patterns
User ContentMessages, uploadsChat with support, uploaded ID documents
Search HistorySearches inside the appFinding games, personalising the lobby
DiagnosticsCrash and performance dataFixing bugs

Operators also have a duty to look for signs of harm using spending, time and behaviour, under the Gambling Commission’s customer interaction rules. That is one reason usage and financial data sit in nearly every label. For more on this, see how casino apps use your data.

Five UK casino app privacy labels compared

The table summarises the iPhone labels for five UK casino apps as shown on their App Store listings when checked in October 2026. Labels change with app updates, so look again before you install.

iOS privacy labels for five UK casino apps
AppUsed to track youLinked to youNot linked to you
Coral Casino: Slots & GamesUser Content, Usage DataLocation (coarse), Contact Info, User Content, Search History, Usage Data, Financial Info, IdentifiersDiagnostics
Ladbrokes Casino Games & SlotsNone shownFinancial Info, Contact Info, User Content, Search History, Identifiers, Usage DataLocation (precise), Diagnostics

Casumo Casino & Sports BettingIdentifiers, Usage Data, DiagnosticsFinancial Info, Contact Info, User Content, Identifiers, Usage Data, DiagnosticsIdentifiers (device ID), Diagnostics
10bet: Sports Betting & CasinoUsage DataFinancial Info, Contact InfoUsage Data, Advertising Data

A few things stand out. Ladbrokes shows no tracking tier at all. PlayOJO declares the shortest label, though its listing also says the app may use your location even when it isn’t open. Coral lists the widest set of linked data, including coarse location. Casumo declares three tracked categories, the most of the five.

You can see Coral’s label on its App Store listing (opens in a new tab) and PlayOJO’s on its App Store page (opens in a new tab). Our pages on the Coral iPhone app and the PlayOJO iPhone app cover size and iOS version too.

Reading the Google Play Data safety section

Google’s Data safety section is organised differently. It separates data shared with third parties from data collected by the app, and adds security practices, such as whether data is encrypted in transit and whether you can ask for it to be deleted.

Google Play Data safety for the same five apps
App on Google PlaySharedCollectedEncrypted in transit / deletion
Coral™ Casino: Slots & GamesNone statedNone stated (reported)Yes / can be requested

PlayOJO: Online Casino GamesNone statedNone statedYes / can be requested
Casumo - Live Casino & SlotsMay share locationPersonal info, financial info and othersYes / can be requested
10bet: Sports Betting & CasinoFinancial infoMay collect locationYes / can be requested

Notice the mismatches. Coral’s and PlayOJO’s Android entries say no data is collected, while their iPhone labels list identifiers and other data. Both labels are self-declared, so when the two disagree, assume the fuller one is closer to reality and check the operator’s privacy policy. The Ladbrokes Google Play listing (opens in a new tab) is an example of a fuller Android entry.

Location on a casino app privacy label

Location is the line most people look for. Apple’s App Review Guidelines (opens in a new tab) say real-money gaming apps must be geo-restricted to the places they’re licensed, and Google Play has a matching rule. Neither store says how, so an app might use your device location, your IP address or both.

The label tells you which approach an app declares. Coarse location is an area; precise location is your exact spot. A note that the app may use location when it isn’t open, as on PlayOJO’s listing, means you should check your phone’s location permission for that app. Our guides on whether casino apps track your location and casino app permissions explain the settings.

Contact data and marketing choices

Contact Info on a label doesn’t mean you’ll be bombarded. Since 1 May 2025, UK online operators must let you choose which products (betting, casino, bingo) and which channels (phone, email, SMS) they market to you. Our page on marketing consent rules sets out the details, and our guide to turning off casino app notifications covers push alerts, which are controlled through your phone.

Privacy label red flags in a casino app

  • No privacy label at all on a real-money casino app, or a label that doesn’t match what the app clearly does.
  • A developer name that isn’t a company. Apple says gambling apps should be submitted by a legal entity, not an individual developer.
  • Contacts or photos access that the app can’t explain. Our answers on casino apps and your photos and why an app wants your contacts cover this.
  • Large tracking tiers that include financial info, which goes beyond what a casino needs to run your account.
  • Any app asking you to install outside the store. See our guide to fake casino apps and scams.

What to do if you’re unhappy with a casino app’s data use

  1. Refuse tracking if the app asks, and tighten location and notification permissions in your phone’s settings.
  2. Update your marketing preferences in the casino account.
  3. Ask the operator what data it holds about you, or ask for deletion where the label says it can be requested.
  4. If you’re not satisfied, complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (opens in a new tab), which handles UK data protection complaints.

Bear in mind that operators may need to keep some records under gambling and anti-money laundering rules even after you close an account. Casino app privacy labels and our partner offers

A privacy label won’t tell you whether a casino is good value, but it can help you choose between apps you’re already considering. Of the three partner apps featured here, Ladbrokes shows no tracking tier on iOS, PlayOJO has the shortest iOS label, and Coral declares the widest set of linked data. Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so you may not be able to open new accounts at both. 18+ and terms apply to every offer.

  • Coral: new players aged 18+ who deposit (certain payment types excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots get 100 free spins, 10p each, on selected games, between 1 October 2026 and 1 February 2027. Accept within 48 hours; spins last 7 days; no wagering on winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify.
  • Ladbrokes: new customers aged 18+ who deposit and play £10 or more on slots get 50 free spins a day for the first 10 days (up to 500), 10p each, on selected games. Claim before 23:59 each day; spins last 7 days; no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don’t qualify.
  • PlayOJO: new UK customers aged 18+ (excluding Northern Ireland) get 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, 10p each, with a first deposit of at least £10. No wagering, so winnings are paid in cash. Can’t be combined with other offers; only available through the designated offer link.

Free spins are slot offers and can’t be used on table or live games. The house edge still applies, so treat any play as entertainment that costs money. Our Coral welcome bonus page and our Coral vs Ladbrokes comparison go into more detail.

Frequently asked questions

What does a casino app privacy label mean?

A casino app privacy label is the developer’s summary, on the App Store or Google Play, of what data the app collects and how it’s used. On iPhone it’s split into data used to track you, data linked to you and data not linked to you. On Android, the Data safety section separates shared and collected data. Our short answer on what a casino app privacy label means sums it up.

Why do casino apps collect financial information?

Casino apps collect financial information because they process deposits and withdrawals, and UK rules require operators to watch for signs of harm, including spending patterns. Licensed operators must also verify your age and identity before you gamble. So Financial Info in the linked-to-you tier is expected. It’s more concerning in the tracking tier. The checks are explained in how casino apps verify your identity.

Which UK casino app has the shortest privacy label?

Of the five UK casino apps we compared from their App Store listings in October 2026, PlayOJO Real Money Casino had the shortest iOS label, declaring only identifiers. Ladbrokes Casino Games & Slots showed no tracking tier. Labels change with app updates, so check the listing before installing. Our PlayOJO iPhone app page covers the rest of the listing.

Why does my casino app’s Android label differ from the iPhone one?

Apple and Google use different formats, and each label is declared separately by the developer. That can produce mismatches: Coral’s and PlayOJO’s Android entries say no data is collected, while their iPhone labels list several data types. When labels disagree, read the operator’s privacy policy and assume the fuller label is closer to reality. Our Coral Android app page covers that listing.

Do casino apps need my location?

Real-money casino apps must be geo-restricted to where the operator is licensed, under both Apple’s and Google Play’s rules. Neither store says this has to use device location, so some apps may rely on IP address. The privacy label shows whether an app declares coarse or precise location. Our answer on why a casino app needs your location explains more.

Does Contact Info on the label mean I’ll get spam?

No. Since 1 May 2025, UK online operators must let you choose which products and which channels, such as email, SMS or phone, they use for marketing. You can change those choices in your account. Push notifications are controlled in your phone’s settings. The difference is covered in push notifications and gambling marketing.

Can I ask a casino app to delete my data?

You can ask, and every Google Play Data safety entry we compared says deletion can be requested. However, operators may need to keep some records to meet gambling and anti-money laundering duties, so deletion may be partial. If you’re unhappy with the response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Our guide on how to close a casino account covers the account side.

Is a casino app with a big privacy label unsafe?

Not necessarily. A long label often reflects UK legal duties, such as identity checks and harm monitoring, rather than poor practice. What matters more is the tracking tier and whether the app is licensed. Check the operator on the Gambling Commission’s register and that the developer is a company. See are casino apps safe for what to look for.
