UK licensed casino apps

UK licensed casino apps are run by companies holding a Gambling Commission remote casino licence, which you can check by name or account number on the public register. Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet all qualify. Here is who holds each licence, how long they’ve held it, what their record shows and how to check any app yourself in two minutes.

Key takeaways

  • All five partner apps are run by Gambling Commission licensees: LC International Limited (54743), Skill On Net Limited (39326), Recro Limited (61549) and Blue Star Planet Limited (43173).
  • The company on the App Store listing isn’t always the licence holder, so match the publisher to the operator’s group.
  • A register entry can show zero regulatory actions even when the Commission has announced one, so read the news pages too.
  • A GB licence brings GAMSTOP, age checks before play, the 10x wagering cap and access to free dispute resolution.
  • The Gambling Act 2005 covers Great Britain only, not Northern Ireland.

What makes a casino app UK licensed

A casino app is UK licensed when the business behind it holds a remote casino operating licence from the Gambling Commission. Anyone offering online gambling to people in Great Britain needs one, wherever the company is based. That’s why our partners can be registered in Gibraltar, Malta or Cyprus and still be fully licensed here.

Licensed operators must follow the Commission’s Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice. That brings the protections that matter on a phone: age and identity checks before you can deposit or play, a prompt to set a deposit limit, GAMSTOP, a 10x cap on bonus wagering, slot stake limits and a formal complaints route. Our guide to how casino apps are licensed in the UK explains the system from the start.

App stores add their own layer. Apple’s App Review Guidelines (opens in a new tab) say real-money gaming apps must have the necessary licensing where they’re used and be geo-restricted to those places, and Google Play requires a valid licence for each country an app is offered in.

How we ranked UK licensed casino apps

All five partner apps hold the same type of licence, so we didn’t rank them on whether they’re licensed. Instead we looked at how easy it is to match the app to its licence, how long the licence has been held, the Commission’s public record for each licensee and how much the operator publishes about payments and support.

We read the register entries, Commission news and the app listings. We didn’t test the apps. Our full ranking across every factor is on the best casino apps hub.

The best UK licensed casino apps, ranked

1. Coral Casino: LC International Limited, account 54743

Coral’s casino app is run by LC International Limited, Entain’s online business, which has held its remote casino licence since 1 July 2019. The App Store listing names Entain as seller with copyright held by LC International Limited, and the Google Play developer is LC International Limited itself, so the chain from app to licence is easy to follow.

Coral also publishes plenty that a licence check alone won’t tell you: no withdrawal fees, Visa Fast Funds payouts that typically reach your bank within 4 hours of approval, and a £2,000 per-deposit cap. The licensee’s record includes a £14 million package in August 2022, part of Entain’s £17 million settlement (opens in a new tab), over anti-money-laundering and social responsibility failures. Our Coral safety page covers it.

2. Ladbrokes Casino: the same licence as Coral

Ladbrokes Casino sits on the identical licence, account 54743, so everything about its licence and record mirrors Coral. The difference is in the app details: the Google Play developer is shown as Ladbrokes Mobile Development, with LC International Limited as the contact entity. That’s normal within a group, but it’s one more name to recognise.

Because both brands share a licensee, one person may not be able to hold new accounts at both. Our comparison of Coral and Ladbrokes explains what else they share.

3. PlayOJO: Skill On Net Limited, account 39326

PlayOJO has the simplest match of the five. Skill On Net Ltd publishes the app on both stores and holds the licence, so the name on your phone is the name on the register entry (opens in a new tab). Its casino licence dates from 2014, the longest of our partners, and its register head office is in Limassol, Cyprus. It also holds a Malta Gaming Authority licence.

In May 2023 Skill On Net agreed a £305,150 regulatory settlement for social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failures. It ranks third because that record is more recent than Entain’s and PlayOJO publishes less detail on per-method payout times.

4. Casumo: Recro Limited, account 61549

Casumo is run by Recro Limited in Malta, whose remote casino licence (opens in a new tab) has been active only since 21 December 2023, the newest of the five. The App Store seller is shown as Casumo, with Casumo Services Ltd as provider, so the licensee’s name doesn’t appear on the listing at all. Check the register rather than the store to confirm it.

We found no Commission action against Recro Limited in our checks. Casumo publishes its withdrawal times by method and a £3 fee on withdrawals under £10.

5. 10bet: Blue Star Planet Limited, account 43173

10bet is licensed through Blue Star Planet Limited (opens in a new tab) in Malta, with a casino licence since 17 December 2015. The iOS seller is 10bet Limited while Blue Star Planet holds the copyright, and the Google Play developer is Blue Star Planet Ltd. The licence text didn’t show in the 10bet website footer when it was checked, so the register is the reliable source.

The Commission announced a £620,000 regulatory action against Blue Star Planet in February 2023. On the plus side, 10bet lists a UK phone line, 0808 175 0550, open 08:00–23:00 daily.

Only PlayOJO’s store seller is the licensee itself. That isn’t a warning sign: the Apple guidelines ask for gambling apps to come from a legal entity providing the service, and group companies often publish on a licensee’s behalf. It does mean you should check the register, not just the store. The glossary entry on white label arrangements explains why names can differ.

A licence can carry a history. These are the Commission actions we found for each partner licensee, from Commission announcements.

A register entry’s action count may not show every settlement. Skill On Net and Blue Star Planet both show zero on their summary pages even though the Commission announced their 2023 actions. Search the Commission’s news pages as well as the register.

How to check if a casino app is UK licensed

This takes a couple of minutes and works for any app, not just ours.

  1. Open the app’s store listing and note the seller or developer name.
  2. Find the operator’s licence statement in the app or website footer, where licensees are expected to show their licence and account number.
  3. Go to the Gambling Commission’s public register (opens in a new tab) and search by business name, trading name, domain or account number.
  4. Check the licence status reads Active, not Surrendered, Suspended, Revoked or Expired.
  5. Check that remote casino appears among the licensed activities.
  6. Look at the trading names and domains: the brand you’re using should be listed as Active.
  7. Search the Commission’s news pages for the company name to see any regulatory action.

If the names don’t line up, or you can’t find the brand at all, don’t deposit. Our guide on how to spot an unlicensed casino app covers the warning signs, including lookalike and fake apps.

Other UK licensed casino apps worth knowing

These brands aren’t our partners, so they’re unranked and we have no offer with them. Each appears on the register under the licensee shown, based on our checks.

  • Sky Vegas: Bonne Terre Gaming Limited (65519), after the former licensee Bonne Terre Limited (38718) surrendered its licence on 31 October 2025. The App Store still names Bonne Terre Ltd as provider.
  • Betway: Betway Limited (39372); the app seller is Digital Outsource International Limited.
  • BetMGM: LeoVegas Gaming PLC (39198), the same licence that covers LeoVegas.
  • Virgin Games and Jackpotjoy: Gamesys Operations Limited (38905); Virgin Games is listed as a white label domain.
  • PartyCasino: LC International Limited (54743), the same licensee as Coral and Ladbrokes, though the apps are published by ElectraWorks Limited.
  • kwiff: Eaton Gate Gaming Limited (44448), while the app publisher is Kwiff Limited.
  • Grosvenor Casinos: Rank Interactive (Gibraltar) Limited (57924).

Some names have gone. Mr Green Limited’s UK casino and bingo licences show as surrendered from 28 October 2024, so it no longer holds a licence to serve British players.

What a UK licence protects, and what it doesn’t

A licence gives you rights. If something goes wrong, you complain to the operator first; it has 8 weeks to resolve it and must then offer free alternative dispute resolution. The Commission doesn’t settle individual complaints, but it can act against operators. The complaints and ADR rules explain the route step by step.

A licence doesn’t make gambling safe from loss. The house edge applies in every licensed app, and losses are likely over time. It also doesn’t guarantee your balance if an operator fails: each operator must tell you whether customer funds are not protected, or have medium or high protection, and you must acknowledge it before your first deposit is used. We haven’t checked each partner’s rating, so read it in the terms before you deposit.

Northern Ireland sits outside the Gambling Act 2005 and the Commission’s rules. See our page on Northern Ireland gambling law if you live there.

Red flags for apps that may not be UK licensed

  • No licence statement, or a licence from another country with no Gambling Commission account number.
  • A download link from a website or message rather than the App Store or Google Play.
  • Offers that ignore UK rules, such as wagering above 10x, credit card deposits or feature buys, which have not been offered to British players since a Commission warning in January 2020.
  • No age or identity check before you can deposit.
  • A brand that doesn’t appear on the register as an Active trading name or domain.

Unlicensed sites give you none of the UK protections: no GAMSTOP, no ADR and no Commission oversight. Our guide on how to tell a casino app is licensed answers the common follow-up questions.

Choosing between UK licensed casino apps

Once you know an app is licensed, the useful comparisons are practical: published withdrawal times and fees, support channels, the iOS version it needs and what its offer actually costs to clear. Our real money casino apps ranking weighs those, and the safer gambling tools ranking compares how clearly each app publishes its limits and breaks.

Whichever you pick, set a deposit limit when you’re prompted, and treat what you deposit as the price of entertainment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if a casino app is UK licensed?

Search the Gambling Commission’s public register by the operator’s name, trading name, website or account number, and check the licence is Active and includes remote casino. Then match the brand to an Active trading name or domain on that entry. Licensees are expected to show their licence and account number in the app or site footer. Our guide to how casino apps are licensed explains what each part of the register means.

Are Coral and Ladbrokes on the same licence?

Yes. Both are run by LC International Limited, part of Entain, under Gambling Commission account 54743, which has held a remote casino licence since 1 July 2019. PartyCasino and Gala also trade under that licensee. Because they share an operator, one person may not be able to hold new accounts at both Coral and Ladbrokes. The question why can’t I open accounts at Coral and Ladbrokes explains more.

Why is my casino app’s company based in Malta or Gibraltar?

The Gambling Commission doesn’t require licensees to be incorporated in any particular country, only to hold a GB licence and provide a UK address for service. Casumo’s licensee Recro Limited and 10bet’s Blue Star Planet Limited are in Malta, LC International Limited is in Gibraltar and Skill On Net lists Cyprus. All are licensed to serve British players. For how this works, see remote gambling licences.

Is PlayOJO licensed in the UK?

Yes. PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, Gambling Commission account 39326, which has held a casino licence since 2014 and a bingo licence since February 2020. The company publishes the app itself on both stores. It agreed a £305,150 regulatory settlement in May 2023 for social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failures. Our PlayOJO safety page covers its licence and record in more detail.

Why doesn’t the App Store show the licence holder’s name?

Group companies often publish apps for the licensed operator. Casumo’s listing names Casumo Services Ltd while Recro Limited holds the licence, and 10bet’s iOS seller is 10bet Limited while Blue Star Planet Limited holds it. That’s common, but it means the store alone doesn’t prove a licence. Check the register for the brand’s trading name. Our guide on Apple App Store rules for casino apps explains Apple’s side.

What happens if I use a casino app that isn’t UK licensed?

You lose the protections a GB licence brings. There’s no GAMSTOP coverage, no requirement to offer deposit limits or time-outs, no free dispute resolution and no Commission oversight if your withdrawal stalls. Apple and Google both require real-money gambling apps to be licensed where they’re offered, so be wary of downloads from outside the official stores. Our guide to spotting an unlicensed casino app lists the warning signs.

Does a UK licence mean my money is protected?

Not automatically. Operators must tell you whether customer funds are not protected or have medium or high protection, and you must acknowledge it before your first deposit is used. Operators with unprotected funds must remind you every six months from 31 October 2025. Customer funds include cleared deposits and unpaid winnings. Read the rating in each app’s terms. Our customer funds page explains what each level means.

Are UK licensed casino apps legal in Northern Ireland?

The Gambling Act 2005 and the Gambling Commission’s rules apply to Great Britain, not Northern Ireland, which has its own gambling law. Some offers also exclude Northern Ireland; PlayOJO’s welcome offer, for example, isn’t available there. Check each operator’s terms before signing up. The question about playing casino apps in Northern Ireland covers the details.
