Rocket Reels slot: the short version
Rocket Reels comes from Hacksaw Gaming, a studio that launched in September 2018, is based in Malta and is best known for Wanted Dead or a Wild. Its parent, Hacksaw AB, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm on 25 June 2025, and the studio holds a Gambling Commission licence for Great Britain.
The game is a space-themed cluster slot built around chain reactions: wins cascade away, rockets clear more of the grid, and multipliers left behind can stack up. It's a high-volatility game, so most of its return is concentrated in less frequent, bigger results. See how it fits with other games in our slots hub.

How the features work
Cascades and clusters. A cluster of five or more matching symbols pays, the winning symbols disappear, and new ones fall in, which can create further wins in the same sequence. Wilds also appear on the grid and help complete clusters.
Main feature: rockets. In the base game, if three or more rockets are on the grid, they launch at the end of the cascade. Each launch clears the symbols above the rocket and leaves a multiplier behind. When a winning cluster then forms over multipliers, the multipliers add together rather than multiply, and the total applies to that win.
The UFO. After a launch, a UFO can appear at random and remove symbols from the grid, which makes room for new symbols to drop in.
Free spins. Landing three astronaut scatters within a single cascade sequence triggers eight free spins. The key difference from the base game: during free spins, every rocket that lands launches, not just groups of three or more. That's what gives the round its higher potential.
Exact multiplier values and how they persist are set out in the game's help screen. We describe only the mechanics the published specifications confirm.
A Rocket Reels base-game sequence, step by step
The order of events is easier to follow written out. This is how one base-game spin plays through, based on the mechanics above:
- You spin and the 7×7 grid fills.
- Any clusters of five or more matching symbols pay and are removed.
- New symbols fall into the gaps, and any new clusters pay in turn.
- When the cascades stop, if three or more rockets are on the grid, they launch.
- Each rocket clears the symbols above it and leaves a multiplier; a UFO may then remove more symbols.
- Symbols refill, and any winning cluster that forms over multipliers gets their added-up total.
- If three astronaut scatters appeared during the sequence, eight free spins follow.
Under UK rules each spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, and the app can't offer a turbo button or slam-stop to rush the sequence.
Rocket Reels RTP and max win in pounds
With a 96.3% RTP, standard game maths gives an expected loss of £3.70 per £100 staked over the long run. At 10p a spin and the fastest pace UK rules allow (1,440 spins an hour at 2.5 seconds each), that's £144 staked and about £5.33 expected loss an hour.
The 10,000x maximum win is a ceiling, not something to plan around. Here's what it means at different stakes:
| Stake | 10,000x max win | Who can stake this |
|---|---|---|
| 10p | £1,000 | All UK players |
| 50p | £5,000 | All UK players |
| £2 | £20,000 | Top stake for players aged 18–24 |
| £5 | £50,000 | Top stake for players aged 25 and over |
The chance of reaching the top prize isn't published, and on a high-volatility game it is very small. Always check the RTP figure in the game's help screen too; our guide on finding RTP in an app shows where.
Rocket Reels on a £20 budget: 10p, 50p or £1
High volatility changes how a small budget feels. At 10p you get 200 spins from £20; at 50p, 40 spins; at £1, just 20. The expected loss on £20 of stakes is the same at all three, about 74p (£20 × 3.7%), but the range of outcomes widens sharply as stakes rise.
At £1, 20 spins may produce no meaningful win at all, and the free spins may not appear. At 10p you're more likely to see rocket launches and the odd larger cascade, though the budget can still run out. Our low-stakes casino games page has more on stretching a fixed budget.
Why there's no bonus buy on Rocket Reels in UK apps
Some players look for a way to pay straight into the free spins. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players. The Commission's games warning for online operators (opens in a new tab) followed its discovery of six operators offering them, all of which removed the feature.
So on a UK app, Rocket Reels' free spins come only from landing three astronaut scatters in a cascade sequence. Autoplay is also unavailable, in line with the slot design rules in the Commission's responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab). Read our game design rules page for the full list.
Rocket Reels on iPhone and Android
Rocket Reels runs inside casino apps and mobile browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android. A 7×7 grid is dense on a phone, and rocket launches plus cascades mean a lot of movement on screen at once.
If the activity is hard to follow, a tablet helps. Check your Android phone settings or our iPhone guide for display and notification options, and read about casino apps and battery life if you play away from a charger.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Rocket Reels?
Rocket Reels has a listed RTP of 96.3%, which means an expected loss of £3.70 for every £100 staked over a very large number of spins. Individual sessions vary widely because the game is high volatility. Casinos can sometimes run different settings, so confirm the figure on the game's help screen. Our RTP glossary entry explains what the number does and doesn't mean.
What is the max win on Rocket Reels?
The maximum win on Rocket Reels is 10,000x your stake. That's £1,000 on a 10p spin, £20,000 at the £2 limit for under-25s and £50,000 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. The odds of reaching it aren't published and are very small. See our slot stake limits page for how the UK caps apply to your age.
How do rockets work in Rocket Reels?
In the base game, three or more rockets on the grid launch once the cascade has finished. Each one clears the symbols above it and leaves a multiplier, and multipliers under a winning cluster are added together and applied to that win. A UFO can then appear at random and remove more symbols. In free spins, every rocket launches. Our multiplier glossary entry covers multipliers in general.
How do you get free spins in Rocket Reels?
You get eight free spins by landing three astronaut scatter symbols within one cascade sequence. During the round every rocket that lands launches, rather than needing three or more. You can't buy the bonus in UK apps, because feature buy-ins aren't offered to British players since the Commission's January 2020 warning. Our free spins guide explains bonus rounds and offer spins.
Can you buy the bonus on Rocket Reels in the UK?
No, you can't buy the bonus on Rocket Reels in UK apps. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the free spins come only from landing three astronaut scatters. That position applies across GB-licensed apps and websites. Read more on our game design rules page.
Is Rocket Reels a high volatility slot?
Yes, Rocket Reels is listed as high volatility. Expect long runs of small or no wins, with most of the return coming from bigger cascades and the free spins. On a £20 budget, a 10p stake gives 200 spins against 20 at £1, so lower stakes give you more time with the game for the same expected cost. Our volatility glossary page explains more.
Who makes Rocket Reels?
Rocket Reels is made by Hacksaw Gaming, which launched in September 2018 and is based in Malta. The studio is owned by Hacksaw AB, listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025, and lists more than 250 games including scratchcards and instant-win titles. Its best-known slot is Wanted Dead or a Wild. Our Hacksaw Gaming page covers the studio.
Does Rocket Reels work on mobile?
Yes, Rocket Reels works on iPhone, iPad and Android through casino apps and mobile browsers, with nothing extra to download. The 7×7 grid and frequent animations are busy on a small screen, so a larger phone or tablet makes the action easier to follow. Our iPad casino apps page covers tablet play if you want more room.
