Starlight Princess slot review

The Starlight Princess slot is a high-volatility Pragmatic Play game on a 6×5 grid that pays for eight or more matching symbols anywhere, with a 96.50% RTP and a 5,000x maximum win. Tumbling wins and a free spins multiplier that keeps growing do most of the work. Here is how each part works, what it costs at 10p to £1 and what to expect on a phone.

  • RTP96.50%
  • VolatilityHigh
  • Max win5,000x

Key takeaways

  • Eight or more matching symbols anywhere on the 6×5 grid win; winning symbols tumble away and new ones drop in.
  • Four or more scatters give 15 free spins, where every multiplier that lands adds to an overall multiplier for the round.
  • 96.50% RTP is a 3.5% house edge; high volatility means long quiet spells are normal.
  • Maximum win is 5,000x: £500 at 10p, £5,000 at £1 and £25,000 at the £5 UK cap.

Is the Starlight Princess slot worth playing?

It suits players who like pay-anywhere grids and are comfortable with high volatility. The rules fit on one line: get eight or more of a symbol anywhere and you win. Everything else, from tumbles to the growing multiplier, builds on that idea. If you prefer frequent small returns, a medium-volatility game from our slot reviews will feel calmer.

Advantages

  • Simple win rule: eight or more matching symbols anywhere
  • Tumbles can create several wins from one paid spin
  • Free spins multiplier only grows during the round
  • 96.50% RTP, in line with the studio’s similar grids

Drawbacks

  • High volatility: many spins pay nothing
  • 5,000x cap is lower than the newer 1000-style versions
  • 30-symbol grid is busy on a small phone
  • No partner welcome spins are tied to it

An RTP of 96.50% means that, across a very large number of spins, £96.50 of every £100 staked comes back to players, and £3.50 is the house edge. The figure says nothing about a single session, where high volatility makes the outcome very uneven. Your operator’s version is shown on the help screen.

How the features work

Scatter pays: eight of a kind anywhere

There are no paylines. After each spin the game checks how many of each symbol are on the 6×5 grid. Eight or more of the same symbol, in any positions, form a win. It is easier to spot than a lines win: look for the colour that seems to be everywhere.

Tumbling wins

When a win pays, the winning symbols disappear and the remaining ones fall into the gaps, with new symbols dropping in from above. If that creates another group of eight or more, it pays as well and the process repeats. All of this happens within the one spin you paid for, so a tumble sequence does not cost an extra stake.

Multiplier symbols

Multiplier symbols can land on the grid and apply to wins. A multiplier increases the size of a win, so it only matters on a spin that pays. The paytable lists the range of values your version uses.

Free spins and the overall multiplier

Four or more scatters trigger 15 free spins. In this round, each multiplier that lands is added to a running overall multiplier, which keeps growing for the rest of the round instead of resetting after each spin. That is why the later spins of a long round can pay far more than the early ones.

  1. Spin; any symbol with eight or more copies on the grid pays.
  2. Winning symbols vanish and new ones tumble in; new groups pay too.
  3. Multiplier symbols that land apply to wins.
  4. Four or more scatters start 15 free spins.
  5. In free spins, every multiplier that lands is added to an overall multiplier that keeps building.

There is no bonus buy for British players. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players.

Starlight Princess on a £20 budget

Standard game maths gives an average cost per spin of stake × 3.5%. The table shows the numbers, along with how many paid spins £20 covers before winnings are counted.

£20 on Starlight Princess (RTP 96.50%, max win 5,000x)
StakePaid spins from £20Average cost per spinMax win at that stake
10p2000.35p£500
50p401.75p£2,500
£1203.5p£5,000
£5 (UK cap, 25+)417.5p£25,000

Free spins are where the growing multiplier lives, so the number of paid spins you can afford is the number of chances you get at the round. Twenty spins at £1 is few on a high-volatility game; two hundred at 10p gives the feature far more room.

Per hour: spins × stake × 3.5%. Playing 450 spins at 20p means £90 staked and an average cost of £3.15. Real sessions will often land well away from that figure, both above and below.

Are Starlight Princess results random?

Yes. UK-licensed slots must use random number generation that the Commission’s RTS 7 on random outcomes (opens in a new tab) describes as acceptably random, and games are tested before release. Tumbles, multipliers and scatters are all part of the same random result.

That has two practical consequences. First, no spin is ‘due’ a multiplier or a scatter after a dry run. Second, apps do not have lower RTP by default; the operator picks a version, and it applies in the app and on the website. Our answer to do casino apps rig games goes further.

Playing Starlight Princess on a phone

Starlight Princess is an HTML5 game, so it runs inside a casino app or mobile browser with nothing extra to download. The 6×5 grid shows 30 symbols, which is busy on a small handset; a larger phone, a tablet or landscape mode can help, depending on how the operator’s version handles rotation.

  1. Search your app’s lobby for Starlight Princess and check you have the original, not Starlight Princess 1000.
  2. Open the paytable to confirm the RTP and the multiplier values.
  3. Set a stake within the UK cap for your age.
  4. Tap to spin; tumbles play out automatically within that spin.
  5. Check the session timer and net position as you go.

If the game stutters, our casino app keeps crashing guide has fixes. Device notes are on casino apps on iPad and casino apps on Android tablets, where a bigger screen suits a grid this size.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Starlight Princess?

Starlight Princess has an RTP of 96.50%, which is a 3.5% house edge over a very large number of spins. It is the same figure as Gates of Olympus and the 1000-style Starlight Princess. Individual sessions vary widely because the game is high volatility. Check your operator’s version on the help screen; our guide to finding a game’s RTP in an app shows where to look, and what is the best RTP slot adds context.

How do you win on Starlight Princess?

You win by landing eight or more of the same symbol anywhere on the 6×5 grid. There are no paylines, so position does not matter. After a win, the winning symbols tumble away and new ones fall in, which can create further wins within the same spin. Multiplier symbols can also land and apply to wins. Our cluster pays glossary entry explains a related system that needs symbols to touch, which this game does not.

How many free spins do you get on Starlight Princess?

Four or more scatters trigger 15 free spins. During the round, every multiplier that lands is added to an overall multiplier, which keeps growing until the round ends rather than resetting each spin. That is the main source of the game’s larger results. Check the paytable for any extra details in your version. See free spins in casino apps for how game features differ from promotional spins.

What is the max win on Starlight Princess?

The maximum win is 5,000 times your stake. At 10p that is £500, at £1 it is £5,000, and at the £5 UK maximum for players aged 25 and over it is £25,000. Very few sessions get anywhere near it. If you are comparing, Starlight Princess 1000 raises the cap to 15,000x with the same headline RTP. Read the Starlight Princess 1000 review for how that changes things.

What is the difference between Starlight Princess and Starlight Princess 1000?

The main difference is the maximum win: 5,000x for the original and 15,000x for Starlight Princess 1000. Both use a 6×5 pay-anywhere grid with tumbles and are rated high volatility, and both list 96.50%, though lower versions of the 1000 game may be used. A higher cap with the same RTP usually means a more uneven spread of results. Compare both in our slot reviews and the Starlight Princess 1000 page.

Does Starlight Princess work on mobile?

Yes, it is an HTML5 slot that runs in casino apps and mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. The 30-symbol grid is busy on a small screen, so a larger phone, a tablet or landscape mode can be more comfortable, depending on the operator’s build. Search the app lobby to check availability. Our landscape vs portrait guide explains rotation settings.

Do tumbles on Starlight Princess cost extra?

No, tumbles do not cost anything extra. They happen inside the spin you have already paid for: winning symbols are removed, new ones drop in, and any new winning group pays automatically. Only the original spin counts as your stake. UK rules require each paid spin to be started separately, with at least 2.5 seconds per game, which is why there is no autoplay. Read why there is no autoplay for more.

Who makes Starlight Princess?

Pragmatic Play makes Starlight Princess. The studio was founded in 2015, is based in Gibraltar and holds a UK Gambling Commission licence among others. It is known for Gates of Olympus, Sweet Bonanza and Big Bass Bonanza, and also produces live casino games and Drops & Wins promotions. Our Pragmatic Play provider page has the background, and apps with Drops and Wins covers that promotion.
