Face ID and Touch ID on casino apps

Face ID and Touch ID on casino apps let you sign in with your face or fingerprint instead of typing a password, and Apple says the app never receives your biometric data, only a pass or fail. Here’s which UK casino apps mention it, how to switch it on or off, and when a typed password is the better choice.

Key takeaways

  • Apple says Face ID data is encrypted, stays on your device and is never available to apps or to Apple; apps only learn whether the check passed.
  • Apple puts the chance of a random person’s face matching yours on Face ID at less than 1 in 1,000,000 with a single enrolled appearance.
  • Of our five partners, only Casumo’s iOS listing mentions Face ID and Touch ID login; the others don’t mention it, so check the app.
  • Anyone whose face or fingerprint is enrolled on your phone can pass a casino app’s biometric check, so think twice on a shared device.

How Face ID and Touch ID work on casino apps

When a casino app offers biometric login, it hands the check to iOS rather than doing it itself. Your iPhone compares your face or fingerprint with what it has stored, then tells the app yes or no. The app never sees the scan. Apple’s Face ID and Touch ID overview (opens in a new tab) describes both as security technologies that developers can let you use to sign in to their apps.

Apple’s page on Face ID’s security (opens in a new tab) says the data is encrypted with a key only the Secure Enclave can use, doesn’t leave your device and is never available to apps or to Apple. Apps are told only whether authentication succeeded. That’s why a casino app can use Face ID without becoming a store of anyone’s biometric data.

Behind the yes or no, the app still relies on your normal account login. Biometrics usually stand in for re-typing your password on a device you’ve already signed in on. The password remains the real key, which is why choosing a strong one still matters, as our casino password guide explains.

Which UK casino apps mention Face ID login

App store listings are the clearest public record of what an app does, and most don’t mention biometrics. Among our five partners, only the Casumo app lists Face ID and Touch ID login in its App Store description, alongside Apple Pay and Quick Deposit.

The iOS listings for Coral Casino, Ladbrokes Casino, PlayOJO and 10bet don’t mention Face ID or Touch ID either way. That doesn’t prove they lack it, just that it isn’t advertised. Look in the app’s login screen or security settings after installing, or ask support.

How to turn on Face ID for a casino app

If an app supports biometric login, it normally asks the first time you sign in. iOS then shows its own prompt asking whether to allow the app to use Face ID. Here’s the usual order.

  1. Make sure Face ID or Touch ID is set up on the phone itself in Settings.
  2. Update the casino app so you have the current version.
  3. Log in with your email or username and password.
  4. If the app offers biometric login, accept it, then allow Face ID when iOS asks.
  5. If no prompt appears, look for a security or login option in the app’s account settings.
  6. Close and reopen the app to confirm the face or fingerprint check now replaces the password.

To review which apps can use Face ID, open Settings, tap Face ID & Passcode, then look under Other Apps. You can switch any app off there without deleting it. Touch ID phones list their options under Touch ID & Passcode.

Turning off biometric login on a gambling app

There are good reasons to switch it off. You might share your phone, you might want a pause before opening a casino app, or you might simply prefer typing a password for anything involving money.

  1. Open Settings and tap Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
  2. Enter your device passcode.
  3. Tap Other Apps.
  4. Turn off the switch next to the casino app.

The app will then ask for your password next time. If the app has its own biometric toggle in account settings, switch that off too so the option doesn’t come back after an update.

Face ID, Touch ID and shared phones

Because the casino app only learns pass or fail, it can’t tell whose face or finger passed. If a partner’s fingerprint is enrolled for Touch ID, or you’ve added an alternative appearance to Face ID, they can get into any app that uses biometric login, including your casino account.

The same goes for the device passcode. If someone knows it, they can often use it where Face ID fails. So biometric login is only as private as the phone’s own set-up.

  • Remove other people’s fingerprints or appearances from the phone, or keep biometric login off for gambling apps.
  • Don’t let anyone else use your casino account. Operators verify the account holder’s age and identity before allowing play, and the account must be yours alone.
  • If a child could use your phone, use Screen Time to block or restrict apps rated 18+.

Our guide to sharing a phone and casino apps has more on household set-ups, and can someone else use my casino app covers the account rules.

Face ID for casino app deposits with Apple Pay

Even where a casino app doesn’t use Face ID for login, you may meet it at the cashier. Apple Pay payments are approved with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode, and Apple says it doesn’t store your original card number. Apple sets this out in its Apple Pay security and privacy overview (opens in a new tab).

Coral and Ladbrokes list Apple Pay for deposits and withdrawals on their help pages, and PlayOJO’s help page names it too. Credit cards can’t be used to gamble in Great Britain, including through a wallet, so only add a debit card for gambling payments. Our Apple Pay casino apps page and the step-by-step Apple Pay deposit guide go further.

That quick approval cuts both ways. A deposit can be one glance away, so a deposit limit set in advance is the sensible partner to Face ID payments.

Fingerprint and face login on Android casino apps

Android phones offer fingerprint and face recognition too, and an app can ask the system to check them in the same pass-or-fail way. Whether a particular casino app uses this is up to the operator, and none of the Google Play listings for our partners mention it.

If your Android casino app supports it, the option will usually appear at login or in the app’s settings. Phone menus vary by manufacturer, so see our Android phones guide for general set-up help.

Biometric login and keeping gambling in check

Faster access isn’t always better with a casino app. A typed password is a few seconds of friction that some people find useful. If you open gambling apps more than you mean to, turning off Face ID for them is a small, practical change.

Our page on phone habits and gambling explores this, and every UK app must offer tools such as deposit limits and time-outs. If gambling worries you, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133, 24/7.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to use Face ID on a casino app?

Yes, for most people it’s a safe way to sign in. Apple says Face ID data is encrypted, stays on your device and is never available to apps or to Apple, and the app only learns whether the check passed. The main risk is other people enrolled on your phone. Our guide to keeping your casino account secure covers the other steps worth taking.

Can I log in to a casino app with Face ID?

Sometimes, depending on the app. Among our partners, only Casumo’s App Store listing mentions Face ID and Touch ID login; the Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and 10bet listings don’t mention it. Check the app’s login screen or settings after installing. Our answer to can I log in to a casino app with Face ID has more.

Does a casino app get a copy of my face or fingerprint?

No. Apple says Face ID data doesn’t leave the device and is never available to apps; the app is told only whether authentication succeeded. Touch ID works on the same pass-or-fail principle. The operator still holds your account details, identity documents and payment information, which is covered in our guide to how casino apps use your data.

How accurate is Face ID?

Apple puts the chance that a random person could pass your Face ID at less than 1 in 1,000,000 with a single enrolled appearance. That figure is about random strangers, not people you’ve deliberately enrolled, such as with an alternative appearance. Apple’s page used here doesn’t give an equivalent Touch ID figure. See our Face ID glossary entry for a short definition.

Can someone else open my casino app with their fingerprint?

Yes, if their fingerprint is enrolled on your phone. The casino app can’t tell whose finger passed, only that the check succeeded. Remove other people’s fingerprints or keep biometric login off for gambling apps. Your casino account must only ever be used by you, the verified holder. Read can someone else use my casino app for the account rules.

Do I need Face ID to deposit with Apple Pay in a casino app?

You need Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode to approve an Apple Pay payment. Coral and Ladbrokes list Apple Pay for deposits, and PlayOJO’s help page names it. Use a debit card only, because credit cards can’t be used to gamble in Great Britain, even through a wallet. Our Apple Pay deposit guide walks through it.

How do I stop a casino app using Face ID?

Open Settings, tap Face ID & Passcode, enter your passcode, choose Other Apps and switch the casino app off. The app will then ask for your password. If the app has its own biometric setting, turn that off too. Our casino app login problems guide helps if you get locked out afterwards.

Does Face ID replace two-factor authentication?

Not exactly. Face ID confirms that the person holding your phone is enrolled on it, while two-factor authentication protects your account when someone tries to log in from another device. They work best together, with a strong, unique password underneath. See our guide to two-factor authentication for casino accounts to set it up where available.
