PlayOJO app vs website comes down to convenience rather than different games or odds: the same Skill On Net account, rules and safer-gambling tools sit behind the app, the mobile site and the desktop site. The app adds a home-screen icon and a 25.4 MB install on iPhone; the browser needs nothing installed at all.

Key takeaways

  • The iPhone app is a 25.4 MB casino-only download that needs iOS 15.0 or later; the Android app comes from Google Play.
  • The mobile site and desktop site need no install, so they suit older devices, shared computers and Windows PCs.
  • UK stake limits, spin-speed rules and safer-gambling limits apply to your account, not to the device you use.
  • Games don't get a worse RTP in the app; check each game's help screen for the version you're playing.
  • PlayOJO's welcome offer is claimed through a designated offer link, so sign-up route matters more than device.

PlayOJO app vs website: the short answer

Pick the PlayOJO app if you play on one phone most of the time and want the casino a tap away. Pick the mobile site or desktop if you'd rather keep storage free, play on a computer, or keep gambling one deliberate step away from your home screen.

Behind all three sits one operator: Skill On Net Limited, which holds Gambling Commission account 39326 and has run PlayOJO since its launch in February 2017. Our PlayOJO app review covers the whole product; this page sticks to the question of which way in suits you best.

The differences are practical ones: installing, updating, privacy settings, and how the screen fits your hand. The house edge, the cashier rules and the limits you set don't change when you swap devices.

This table sets the app, the mobile site and the desktop site side by side on the points that change from one to another. Anything not listed, such as your balance or your limits, follows your account wherever you log in.

The broader trade-offs between installed apps and browsers are set out in our guide to a casino app vs mobile site, and the computer side in casino app vs desktop site.

What the PlayOJO app download involves

On iPhone the app appears as PlayOJO Real Money Casino, sold by Skill On Net Ltd in the Casino category with an 18+ age rating. It's a dedicated casino app, because PlayOJO has no sportsbook to bundle in. On Android, Google Play lists it as PlayOJO: Online Casino Games from developer Skill On Net Ltd, rated PEGI 18.

At 25.4 MB the iPhone app is light for a casino app; for comparison, the Coral Casino app's App Store listing gives 101.6 MB. If phone storage is tight, our list of casino apps with the smallest download puts the sizes side by side.

Full install walk-throughs live on the PlayOJO iPhone app and PlayOJO Android app pages. You can check both listings yourself on the App Store (opens in a new tab) and Google Play (opens in a new tab).

Is the PlayOJO app the same as the website?

In the ways that cost or protect your money, yes. Your login, balance, transaction history and limits belong to your PlayOJO account, so a deposit made on a laptop shows up when you open the app, and a limit set in the app applies in the browser too.

The App Store listing describes slots, jackpot slots, bingo, table games and live casino, plus OJOplus money back on every bet. Those match the slots, live casino and bingo that PlayOJO offers on its website. Whether a particular title appears on a particular screen size is something to check in the game lobby, because studios sometimes build separate versions for phones.

Is RTP lower on the PlayOJO app?

There's no rule that apps pay less. A game's return to player is set by the studio's version of the game, not by the device, and UK operators must make game information available. Open the game's help or paytable screen on whichever device you're using to see the figure that applies. Our explainer on whether RTP is lower on casino apps goes into how versions work.

For a general look at what carries across, see is the casino app the same as the website.

Using the PlayOJO mobile site instead of the app

The mobile site is PlayOJO in your phone's browser. Nothing is installed, so there's no storage to free up, no app update to wait for and no store age rating to clear. It's also the route that still works if your iPhone can't run iOS 15.0.

The trade-off is that you log in through the browser each time unless you let it remember you, and you rely on the browser's own settings for privacy rather than an app privacy label. Live casino streams use the same data in either place, because the video is the same.

  • Good for: older phones, low storage, occasional play, and anyone who wants gambling off the home screen.
  • Less good for: frequent players who'd rather tap an icon, or anyone who keeps getting logged out by cleared browser data.

Both Safari and Chrome can place a shortcut to a website on your home screen. That gives you an icon without installing anything; our guide to adding a casino web app to your home screen shows how, and the progressive web app entry explains the term.

If you'd rather avoid downloads altogether, casino sites that work without an app looks at the browser-first option across brands.

PlayOJO on desktop: Windows, Mac and Apple silicon

On a Windows PC or an older Mac, PlayOJO is a website and nothing more. That's often the most comfortable way to read terms, check your transaction history or upload verification documents, because you get a full keyboard and a bigger view of the screen.

Macs with Apple M1 or later chips are a special case. The App Store lists the iPad version of PlayOJO Real Money Casino as compatible with these Macs running macOS 12.0 or later, labelled 'Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS'. In plain terms, it may install, but Skill On Net hasn't confirmed it works fully on a Mac, so the website is the safer choice there. Our casino apps on Mac page explains the label.

The same listing names Apple Vision on visionOS 1.0 or later, again as an iPad app. See casino apps on Apple Vision Pro for what that means in practice.

Privacy and location: PlayOJO app versus browser

The App Store privacy label for the PlayOJO app lists Identifiers under 'Used to track you', and Identifiers (Device ID) under 'Not linked to you'. Google Play's data safety section for the Android app states that no data is shared or collected, that data is encrypted in transit and that you can ask for deletion. The two stores use different formats, so the wording doesn't line up exactly.

The iOS listing also carries the statement: 'This app may use your location even when it is not open, which can decrease device battery life.' PlayOJO's help pages don't explain this. All UK real-money apps must be limited to places where they're licensed under Apple's and Google's rules, which is one reason gambling apps ask about location. In the browser, location access is a website permission you grant or refuse case by case.

If that matters to you, read our guide to how to read a casino app privacy label, and adjust location access for the app in your phone's settings. Our PlayOJO settings and notifications page walks through the phone-level controls.

Payments, withdrawals and support on the PlayOJO app and website

The cashier is part of your account, so the payment methods and withdrawal rules are the same whichever screen you use. PlayOJO's help page names debit cards, Payz, Apple Pay and Trustly, and says to check the cashier for the current full list.

PlayOJO money and support points that apply on every device
TopicWhat PlayOJO's help page says
Withdrawal processingMost payments processed within a few hours; money goes back to the deposit method where possible
Minimum withdrawalYou can withdraw as little as you want
Deposit creditingSome methods can take up to 3 working days
CardsUp to two non-verified cards at a time
VerificationDocuments uploaded through the upload tool, not email; aims to verify within 12 hours
SupportLive chat after login (availability depends on country) and email; no phone number listed

One practical difference: Apple Pay is built into iPhone, so it's naturally a phone-side method, while uploading a passport scan or utility bill can be easier from a computer where the file already sits. Details are on the PlayOJO payments, PlayOJO withdrawals and PlayOJO verification pages. You can read the source wording on PlayOJO's help page (opens in a new tab).

UK rules apply the same on every PlayOJO screen

Gambling Commission rules attach to the game and the account, not the device. That means the same protections whether you tap in the app or click on a laptop:

  • Slot stakes are capped at £5 a spin if you're 25 or over and £2 a spin if you're 18 to 24, as set out in our guide to slot stake limits on mobile.
  • Slots must take at least 2.5 seconds per spin, with no autoplay, turbo or slam-stop.
  • Since 17 January 2025, other casino games need at least 5 seconds per game cycle, you can't play several games at once, and net spend and time played must be on screen.
  • Feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, following a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020.

The Commission's responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab) sets out the speed rules, and our page on game speed rules on mobile casino games explains them in plain English.

What a session costs is the same on any device

Expected loss is stake multiplied by house edge. On a slot with a 96% RTP (a 4% house edge), 50p spins at the 2.5-second minimum come to at most 1,440 spins an hour, or £720 staked. Expected loss is £720 × 4% = £28.80 an hour. Real sessions run slower and results swing widely either way, but the device doesn't change the sum.

How to move from the PlayOJO website to the app

If you signed up in a browser and now want the app, you don't need a new account. Opening a second one would breach most operators' terms anyway.

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play from your phone, not from a link in an email or text.
  2. Search for the exact store name: PlayOJO Real Money Casino on iPhone, or PlayOJO: Online Casino Games on Android.
  3. Check the publisher reads Skill On Net Ltd before you install.
  4. Open the app and log in with the email and password you already use on the website.
  5. Check your balance and any limits you set match what you see in the browser.
  6. Decide whether to allow notifications and location when your phone asks; you can change both later.

PlayOJO app or website: which suits you

Neither route is better in money terms. It's about how you play and how close you want the casino to be.

Advantages

  • App: a light 25.4 MB install on iPhone with a home-screen icon
  • App: Apple Pay sits naturally on the phone you already use
  • Website: works on Windows PCs, older Macs and phones below iOS 15.0
  • Website: nothing installed, no tracking identifiers from an app
  • Both: same account, same limits, same cashier

Drawbacks

  • App: the iOS listing says it may use location when closed, which can affect battery
  • App: Face ID and notification options aren't mentioned in either store listing
  • Website: you rely on the browser to keep you logged in
  • Mac app: labelled 'not verified for macOS'

If your play is mostly slots, the PlayOJO slots app page covers the lobby; for dealers on a small screen, see PlayOJO live casino. If you're comparing the app against a standalone rival, standalone casino apps is a useful next stop.

PlayOJO welcome offer on the app and website

The welcome offer isn't tied to the app or the website; it's tied to how you join. PlayOJO's offer is 80 free spins with no wagering for new UK customers (excluding Northern Ireland) when they make a first deposit of at least £10. The spins are on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each, so their face value is 80 × £0.10 = £8, and winnings are paid as cash. It can't be combined with other offers and is available only through the designated offer link. 18+, terms apply. Our PlayOJO welcome bonus page has the detail.

As an alternative, Coral Casino offers new players 100 free spins when they deposit and bet £10 or more on slots (certain payment types excluded). Spins are 10p each on selected games, must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days, with no wagering on winnings; the offer runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't qualify. 18+, terms apply.

Both are slot offers, so they won't apply to table or live games. Treat any deposit as money spent on entertainment; see more no wagering casino apps if that style of offer appeals.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PlayOJO app better than the website?

Neither is better for your money, because the games, cashier and limits come from the same account. The app is handier if you play on one phone and want a home-screen icon; the website suits computers, older phones and anyone who'd rather not install a gambling app. The iPhone app is 25.4 MB and needs iOS 15.0 or later. Our PlayOJO app review covers the rest of the product, and casino app vs mobile site compares the formats across brands.

Can I use the same PlayOJO account on the app and website?

Yes, one PlayOJO account works on the app, the mobile site and desktop, and you log in with the same email and password. Your balance, history and safer-gambling limits follow the account. Don't open a second account to use the app, as duplicate accounts usually break the terms and can lead to closure. If you can't get in, the PlayOJO login page explains the usual fixes, and using the same account on app and website covers the general rules.

Do I need to download the PlayOJO app to play?

No, you can play PlayOJO in a phone or computer browser without downloading anything. The app is optional and mainly adds a home-screen icon and an app-store install. Some people prefer the browser so gambling isn't one tap away on their phone. If you do want the app, check you have iOS 15.0 or later on iPhone, or use Google Play on Android. Our guides to the PlayOJO iPhone app and playing without an app go further.

Are PlayOJO games the same on the app as on desktop?

The game lines are the same: the App Store listing describes slots, jackpot slots, bingo, table games and live casino, matching the website's product range. Individual titles depend on whether the studio has a mobile version, so check the lobby on your device. The RTP is set by the game version, not by the app, and you can confirm it in each game's help screen. See PlayOJO app games for the lobby and games on apps vs desktop for the wider picture.

Is the PlayOJO app safe to download?

Yes, as long as you install it from the official App Store or Google Play listing published by Skill On Net Ltd. Skill On Net Limited holds Gambling Commission account 39326, and both stores require gambling apps to be licensed and free to download. Avoid links in unsolicited messages and don't install casino files from outside the stores. The PlayOJO safe and legit page covers the licence and history, and are casino apps safe to download explains store checks.

Does the PlayOJO website work on a Mac?

Yes, the website works in any current Mac browser, and that's the simplest option. Macs with Apple M1 or later on macOS 12.0 or later can also install the iPad app from the App Store, but the listing labels it 'Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS', so some parts may not behave as on an iPad. Our casino apps on Mac page explains that label, and the casino app vs desktop site comparison weighs the two options.

Why does the PlayOJO app ask about my location?

Gambling apps must be restricted to places where the operator is licensed, under both Apple's and Google's store rules, so location is part of how they check where you are. The PlayOJO iOS listing also says the app may use your location when it isn't open, which can reduce battery life; PlayOJO's help pages don't explain this further. You can review the permission in your phone's settings. See why a casino app needs my location and our PlayOJO settings and notifications guide.

Can I claim the PlayOJO welcome offer in the app?

The offer depends on joining through the designated offer link, not on the device you use. PlayOJO gives new UK customers, excluding Northern Ireland, 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each after a first deposit of at least £10, with no wagering, and it can't be combined with other offers. 18+, terms apply. Spins are for a slot only. Full terms are on our PlayOJO welcome bonus page, and how to claim a bonus in a casino app covers the general steps.
