Mastercard casino apps in the UK

Mastercard casino apps accept a Debit Mastercard in the UK, but never a Mastercard credit card, which has been banned for gambling since 14 April 2020. All five of our partner apps take debit cards. This page shows which Mastercards work, how long card payouts take, which offers exclude some cards and how to block gambling on your card.

Key takeaways

  • A Debit Mastercard works in UK casino apps; a Mastercard credit card does not, under a ban in force since 14 April 2020.
  • Coral, Ladbrokes and Casumo name Mastercard in their published payment lists; PlayOJO and 10bet describe debit cards in general.
  • Published card payout times run from a few hours (PlayOJO's typical processing) to up to five banking days (the outer end of Coral and Ladbrokes' range).
  • Prepaid Mastercards and some debit cards can be excluded from welcome offers, so read the payment line in the terms before you deposit.
  • Your bank can block gambling payments on the card itself, which covers every casino app at once.

Can you use Mastercard on UK casino apps?

Yes, as long as it is a debit card. A Debit Mastercard takes money straight from your current account, and UK gambling law treats a full, non-post-dated debit card payment as cash-like rather than credit. That is why every licensed casino app in Great Britain can accept it.

A Mastercard credit card is a different story. The Gambling Commission's rules on gambling with a credit card (opens in a new tab) stopped licensed operators taking credit card payments from 14 April 2020, online and offline. The ban also reaches e-wallets that were topped up from a credit card, so moving credit through PayPal or Skrill first does not get round it. Our page on the credit card ban in casino apps covers the detail.

In practice, most people who search for Mastercard casino apps simply want to know whether the card in their banking app will go through. If it says "debit" on the front, it should. If it is a credit card, an app licensed by the Commission should refuse it.

Debit, credit, prepaid: which Mastercard works in a casino app

The Mastercard logo sits on several kinds of card, and they are treated differently by casino apps. The table sums up the position for a UK player.

The Debit Mastercard is now the main debit card for several UK banks. Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank began moving current account customers from Maestro to Debit Mastercard in September 2009, and the payments firm Adyen describes Debit Mastercard as the most common replacement for Maestro.

Which casino apps accept Mastercard: our five partners

Here is what each partner publishes about card payments. Where an operator names Mastercard directly, we say so; where it only says "debit cards", we say that instead, because the difference matters if you want certainty before you sign up.

Both brands are run by LC International Limited, and their help centres are almost identical. Both cap a single UK deposit at £2,000 and allow up to three active payment methods in any rolling 30 days. Coral's own list of deposit methods (opens in a new tab) names Visa, Mastercard and Maestro alongside wallets and Pay by Bank.

Casumo is the clearest of the five: its UK FAQ names Mastercard and says the minimum deposit is £10 for every method. PlayOJO's help page lets you keep up to two non-verified cards at a time. 10bet's help centre describes withdrawal categories rather than listing card brands, so check the cashier in the 10bet app's payment options before you rely on it.

How to deposit with a Debit Mastercard in a casino app

The cashier looks different in each app, but the order of things is much the same. These steps describe the general process rather than any one app's screens.

  1. Finish age and identity verification. UK rules say this must happen before you can deposit or play, including demo games.
  2. Open the cashier or deposit area from your account menu.
  3. Set a deposit limit when the app asks. Since 31 October 2025, operators must prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit.
  4. Choose the card option and enter the long card number, expiry date and security code, exactly as on your Debit Mastercard.
  5. Approve the payment in your banking app if your bank asks for extra security.
  6. Check that the balance has updated before you open a game. If it hasn't, look at the transaction history rather than trying again straight away.

If the card is refused, our payment declined troubleshooting guide runs through the usual causes. For your very first top-up, the walkthrough on making a first deposit in a casino app adds what to expect from limit prompts and checks.

Mastercard withdrawals from casino apps: speed and the closed loop

Withdrawals normally go back to the card you deposited with. The Coral and Ladbrokes help centres call this a closed-loop policy, and PlayOJO says it returns money to the deposit method where it can. That protects you from someone redirecting your money, but it means you can't deposit by card and ask for the payout to a different wallet.

Speed has two parts: the casino's own approval, then the time the payment takes to reach your account. At Coral and Ladbrokes, a review team approves the request first, and the method time is added on top. They publish a separate fast route called Visa Fast Funds for Visa cards, but no matching Mastercard figure, so Mastercard holders should work from the general range of instant to five banking days.

Casumo says withdrawals are reviewed within a matter of hours and approved or denied within three days under its policy, and card payments then take up to 2 days. 10bet gives up to 2 business days for debit cards. None of these are regulatory limits: there is no legal maximum payout time, but the Commission does say you must be able to withdraw without unreasonable delay. Our withdrawal times guide compares methods side by side.

A withdrawal can't be reversed back into play. The Commission banned reverse withdrawals for all online operators from 31 October 2021, so once you request a payout the app should not offer to put that money back into your balance.

Mastercard and casino app welcome bonuses

A Debit Mastercard is usually a qualifying deposit method, which is one reason many people pick it for their first payment. There are exceptions, and they sit in the payment line of each offer's terms. Our page on payment methods excluded from bonuses tracks these across apps.

  • Coral: 18+, new players. Deposit and bet £10+ on slots for 100 free spins at 10p each, accepted within 48 hours and valid for 7 days, with no wagering on spin winnings. Certain debit cards and all prepaid cards are excluded, so a prepaid Mastercard won't qualify.
  • Ladbrokes: 18+, new customers. Deposit and spend £10+ on slots for 50 free spins a day for 10 days (maximum 500), 10p each, with no wagering. Prepaid card deposits don't qualify.
  • PlayOJO: 18+, new UK customers outside Northern Ireland. A first deposit of £10 or more brings 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each, with winnings paid in cash and no wagering.
  • Casumo: 18+, opt-in, 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of at least £20, wagered 10x within 7 days with a £5 maximum bet. Payment restrictions apply.
  • 10bet: 18+, a 100% match up to £25, wagered 10x on slots within 3 days. Skrill and Neteller are excluded, not debit cards.

In pounds, Coral's spins have a face value of 100 × 10p = £10, Ladbrokes' maximum is 500 × 10p = £50 spread over ten days, and PlayOJO's is 80 × 10p = £8. What you actually get back from spins depends on the slot's results, and the house edge applies to every spin. These are slot offers; table and live games are usually excluded or count for less.

From Switch and Maestro to Debit Mastercard: a short timeline

Older players may remember paying online with a Switch or Maestro card. The UK has slowly moved those customers onto Debit Mastercard or Visa Debit, which is why some casino help pages still mention Maestro. The history of the Switch debit card (opens in a new tab) sets out the bank moves, and Adyen's guide to Debit Mastercard replacing Maestro (opens in a new tab) covers the European phase-out.

Mastercard debit and gambling: key dates

September 2009Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank begin replacing Maestro with Debit Mastercard
14 April 2020Credit card gambling ban comes into force in Great Britain
1 July 2023Mastercard stops issuing new Maestro cards in Europe, according to Adyen
2027 at the latestRemaining Maestro cards stop working, according to Adyen

If you still have a Maestro card, it may work until it expires. When your bank sends a replacement, expect a Debit Mastercard or Visa Debit, and remember to update the saved card in each casino app you use.

Blocking gambling payments on your Mastercard

Because a Debit Mastercard is tied to your bank, your bank can stop it paying gambling merchants. That block works across every casino app on your phone at once, which an in-app limit can't do. The Gambling Commission keeps a list of banks that block gambling transactions (opens in a new tab), last updated on 16 October 2026.

  • Santander, according to the Commission's list, lets you block particular transaction types without freezing your Mastercard completely.
  • Barclays has a merchant control setting in its app for blocking debit card payments to gambling merchants.
  • Lloyds offers a gambling freeze in its app; it covers card payments to gambling merchants but not direct debits or bank transfers.
  • Starling blocks card payments to most gambling merchants, per card, with a 48-hour delay before switching the block off.

Card blocks rely on the merchant code a payment carries, so they may not catch every transaction. Pair them with the tools in each app, such as setting deposit limits, and see our full guide to gambling blocks on banking apps.

Why a Mastercard deposit might be refused

A refused card is usually explained by one of a handful of rules, most of them published by the operators themselves.

  • It is a credit card, or an e-wallet funded by one.
  • You have switched on a gambling block with your bank.
  • At Coral or Ladbrokes, you already have three active payment methods in the last 30 days.
  • At Coral or Ladbrokes, the amount is over the £2,000 single-deposit cap.
  • Your account hasn't finished identity verification.
  • The amount is below the app's minimum, such as Casumo's £10.

If none of these fits, contact the app's support team rather than repeating the payment several times, which can trigger your bank's fraud checks.

Mastercard-friendly casino apps with a welcome offer

Coral and Ladbrokes name Mastercard in their help centres and charge no withdrawal fees, and PlayOJO takes debit cards with no wagering on its spins. That makes them the closest fit for a Debit Mastercard user. Remember that offers are for new customers aged 18+ and terms apply.

Coral: deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10 on slots for 100 free spins at 10p, accept within 48 hours, use within 7 days, no wagering on spin winnings. Ladbrokes: play £10 on slots for 50 spins a day for 10 days, 10p each, claim by 23:59 each day, 7-day validity, no wagering. PlayOJO: £10 minimum first deposit for 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p, winnings paid in cash, not for Northern Ireland. Gambling should be paid for from spare money, and losses are the likely result over time. For a broader view, see our best casino apps rankings or go back to all casino app payment methods.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a Mastercard credit card on a casino app?

No, you can't use a Mastercard credit card to gamble in Great Britain. The Gambling Commission banned credit card gambling from 14 April 2020, and the rule also covers e-wallets that you top up with a credit card. Licensed apps should refuse the card at the cashier. A Debit Mastercard from your current account is accepted instead. Our guide can I use a credit card on a casino app? explains the ban in more depth.

Which casino apps accept Debit Mastercard?

All five of our partner apps take debit cards. Coral and Ladbrokes name Mastercard in their help centres, and Casumo names it in its UK FAQ. PlayOJO's help page refers to debit cards generally, and 10bet's card listing comes from a third-party review rather than its own help centre, so check the cashier first. For a full method-by-method view, compare the Casumo payments page and the Coral payments page.

How long does a Mastercard casino withdrawal take?

It depends on the app, from a few hours to around five banking days. Casumo publishes up to 2 days for cards after approval, and 10bet up to 2 business days. Coral and Ladbrokes give a range of instant to five banking days after their internal review, with a faster named route only for Visa. PlayOJO says it processes most payments within a few hours. Our guide on why a withdrawal is pending explains the approval stage.

Does a prepaid Mastercard qualify for casino bonuses?

Often it doesn't. Coral's spin offer excludes any pre-payment card as well as certain debit cards, and Ladbrokes excludes prepaid card deposits from its daily spins. Casumo says payment restrictions apply without naming them in the terms we hold. If you want a bonus, a standard Debit Mastercard from your bank is the safer choice, but always read the payment line in the offer terms. Our page on payment method exclusions lists the known exclusions.

Is Mastercard or Visa better for casino apps?

For most players there is little difference: both debit cards are accepted widely and follow the same closed-loop payout rules. The one published difference at our partners is that Coral and Ladbrokes run a named fast payout route for Visa cards, with typical approval in a couple of hours and then up to 4 hours to the bank. They don't publish an equivalent for Mastercard. Our Visa debit casino apps page covers that route.

Are there fees for using Mastercard in casino apps?

Neither Coral nor Ladbrokes charges withdrawal fees, according to their help centres. Casumo charges £3 on withdrawals below £10 and nothing from £10 upwards. PlayOJO and 10bet don't publish withdrawal fees, so check their cashier or help pages. Your own bank may charge for payments in a foreign currency, though UK apps work in pounds. See our casino app withdrawal fees guide for each partner's position.

Can I still use a Maestro card in a casino app?

Possibly, until the card expires. Coral and Ladbrokes still list Maestro among accepted cards. According to Adyen, Mastercard stopped issuing new Maestro cards in Europe from 1 July 2023, and existing cards will stop working by 2027 at the latest. When your bank replaces the card, it will most likely be a Debit Mastercard, so update the saved card in each app. Our debit cards guide covers card deposits in general.

How do I stop my Mastercard being used for gambling?

Turn on your bank's gambling block, if it offers one. The Gambling Commission lists banks with blocks, including Barclays, Lloyds, Santander and Starling, and Santander lets you block specific transaction types without freezing the card. Blocks cover every casino app at once but can miss some payments, so add GAMSTOP self-exclusion or in-app tools too. Our banking app blocks guide walks through each bank.
