Pay by Bank in casino apps: how it works

Pay by bank casino apps take a deposit straight from your current account: you approve it in your banking app and the money moves without a card. Coral and Ladbrokes accept Pay by Bank from £5, and PlayOJO and Casumo offer bank payments through Trustly. Here is how it works, what it costs and where it falls short.

Key takeaways

  • Open banking sits behind it: you approve each deposit with your bank's own login, fingerprint or face scan.
  • Both Coral and Ladbrokes publish a £5 minimum for Pay by Bank deposits and allow Pay by Bank withdrawals.
  • Their separate Fast Bank Transfer is withdrawal-only, from £5, and takes 2 to 4 business days once approved.
  • Card-based gambling blocks at Revolut and Lloyds don't cover bank transfers, so bank payments can slip past them.
  • No partner names Pay by Bank as excluded from its welcome offer in the terms we hold, but always read the payment line.

How pay by bank works in casino apps

Pay by Bank is a way of paying straight from your bank account using open banking. Instead of typing card details into the casino's cashier, you're passed to your bank, you approve the exact amount, and you're sent back to the app. Trustly's overview of Pay by Bank (opens in a new tab) describes the same pattern: no card details, approval with your existing banking credentials or biometrics, and funds that move in real time.

On a phone this is mostly a hand-off between two apps. The casino app opens your banking app, you confirm, and the casino app takes over again. If your banking app isn't installed, you'll usually be asked to log in through the bank's website instead.

It isn't the same as an old-style bank transfer where you type in a sort code and reference. The payment is set up for you and approved in one step, which is why several casino apps treat it as an instant deposit method. Our open banking casino payments page explains the technology, and the open banking glossary entry gives a short definition.

Which casino apps offer pay by bank: our partners

Four of our five partners publish a bank payment option of some kind. The detail differs, especially on minimums and withdrawals.

Coral and Ladbrokes, both run by LC International Limited, have the clearest published rules. Coral's Pay by Bank help page (opens in a new tab) and the matching Ladbrokes Pay by Bank FAQ (opens in a new tab) set the £5 minimum, and both brands cap any single UK deposit at £2,000. They also limit you to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days, so adding Pay by Bank may use up one of those slots.

Casumo's FAQ lists Trustly and Instant Banking among its deposit methods, with £10 as the minimum for everything. PlayOJO names Trustly on its help page. For 10bet, the bank option appears only in a third-party listing, so check the cashier in the 10bet payments page before relying on it.

How to deposit by bank in a casino app

  1. Complete age and identity checks with the casino. You can't deposit before they're done.
  2. Answer the deposit limit prompt. Operators must offer it before your first deposit, and setting a limit is the default.
  3. Pick Pay by Bank, Trustly or the bank option in the cashier and type the amount, for example £5 at Coral or Ladbrokes.
  4. Choose your bank from the list.
  5. Approve the payment in your banking app with your fingerprint, face scan or passcode.
  6. Come back to the casino app and confirm the balance has updated before you play.

Because the casino never sees a card number, there is nothing to save or remove later. The trade-off is that every deposit needs a trip to your bank to approve it, which some players find a useful pause before spending. If a payment fails, our payment declined guide and why was my deposit declined? cover the usual reasons.

Pay by bank withdrawals: Fast Bank Transfer and payout times

Getting money back to your bank works differently at each app. At Coral and Ladbrokes, Pay by Bank works both ways, and there is also Fast Bank Transfer, which is a withdrawal-only method. Their help pages give a £5 minimum and 2 to 4 business days once the casino has approved the request.

Approval comes first everywhere. At Coral and Ladbrokes, a review team signs off each withdrawal and the method time is added afterwards. Casumo says it reviews requests within hours and decides within three days under its policy, then bank payouts take up to 5 days. 10bet publishes up to 3 business days for bank transfers.

Pros and cons of pay by bank casino apps

Advantages

  • No card number stored in your casino account
  • Each deposit approved with your bank's own security
  • £5 minimum deposit at Coral and Ladbrokes
  • Pay by Bank withdrawals available at Coral and Ladbrokes, with no withdrawal fee
  • Not named as excluded from any partner's welcome offer in the terms we hold

Drawbacks

  • Every deposit means switching to your banking app
  • Some card-only gambling blocks don't catch bank payments
  • Payout times for bank routes are longer than the fastest card or wallet routes
  • Not every partner names its bank provider or publishes a bank minimum
  • Counts towards the three-method limit at Coral and Ladbrokes

Does a bank gambling block stop pay by bank?

This is the most important caution on this page. Many banks offer a gambling block, but several are designed around card payments, and a Pay by Bank deposit isn't a card payment. The table shows what three banks say.

Bank gambling blocks and bank payments
BankWhat the block coversBank payments covered?
RevolutCard payments identified as gamblingNo: Revolut says bank transfers and third-party app payments aren't affected
LloydsPayments to gambling merchantsNo: Lloyds says direct debits and bank transfers aren't covered
HSBCDebit card payments known or suspected to be gambling, plus digital walletsIts restriction includes the HSBC Pay by Bank app, per the Gambling Commission's list

Revolut's gambling block help page (opens in a new tab) is explicit that bank transfers aren't affected. If you rely on a block, ask your bank whether it also covers open banking payments. Self-exclusion with GAMSTOP works at the casino's end instead, so it stops you whichever payment method you try. Our banking app blocks guide covers each bank in turn, and the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133.

Low-deposit play with pay by bank casino apps

The £5 minimum at Coral and Ladbrokes makes Pay by Bank one of the lowest published entry points among our partners. Their Google Pay deposits also start at £5. Elsewhere, Casumo's minimum is £10 for every method.

A low minimum is useful for keeping spending small, but it doesn't change the offer rules. Both Coral and Ladbrokes need £10 or more played on slots to trigger their spins, and PlayOJO's first deposit must be at least £10. So a £5 deposit can fund play, but it won't qualify you for a welcome offer on its own. Our lists of £5 deposit casino apps and the guide can I deposit £5 on a casino app? go into this.

Pay by bank casino apps with a welcome offer

Of our partners, Coral and Ladbrokes publish the most detail on Pay by Bank, and PlayOJO accepts bank payments through Trustly. None of the three names Pay by Bank as an excluded method in the terms we hold. Offers are for new customers aged 18+, and terms apply.

Coral: deposit and bet £10 or more on slots for 100 free spins on selected games at 10p each; accept within 48 hours, use within 7 days, no wagering on winnings. Ladbrokes: play £10 on slots for 50 free spins a day over the first 10 days (up to 500), 10p each, claimed by 23:59 daily and valid for 7 days, with no wagering. PlayOJO: first deposit of £10 or more for 80 spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p, winnings paid in cash, excluding Northern Ireland. Expect to lose over time because of the house edge, and only gamble what you can afford. Browse the full best casino apps rankings or the payments hub for other methods.

Frequently asked questions

Which casino apps accept pay by bank?

Coral and Ladbrokes both accept Pay by Bank for deposits and withdrawals, with a £5 minimum deposit. PlayOJO and Casumo offer bank payments through Trustly, and Casumo also lists Instant Banking. 10bet's bank deposit option is mentioned only in a third-party review, so check its cashier. Our Coral payments page and Ladbrokes payments page cover their full method lists.

Is pay by bank safe for casino deposits?

Yes, it is generally a secure way to pay. You approve each payment inside your own bank using its normal security, such as a fingerprint, face scan or passcode, and the casino never receives a card number. The bigger safety question is the casino itself, which must hold a Gambling Commission licence. See are casino apps safe? for the checks to make before you deposit.

What is the minimum pay by bank deposit?

At Coral and Ladbrokes, the published minimum for Pay by Bank is £5. Casumo's minimum is £10 for all methods, including its Trustly and Instant Banking options. PlayOJO and 10bet don't publish a separate minimum for bank payments, so the cashier will show it. Remember that welcome offers usually need at least £10. Our minimum deposits guide compares every partner.

How long do pay by bank withdrawals take?

It depends on the app and the route, from instant to five banking days after approval. Coral's and Ladbrokes' methods take from instantly to five banking days once approved, and Fast Bank Transfer takes 2 to 4 business days. Casumo publishes up to 5 days for bank payouts, and 10bet up to 3 business days. Our withdrawal times guide puts all methods side by side.

Is pay by bank the same as a bank transfer?

Not quite. Both move money from your bank account, but Pay by Bank is set up for you through open banking and approved in one step in your banking app, so deposits are usually instant. A traditional bank transfer often means entering details yourself, and casino apps mostly use it for withdrawals. Coral and Ladbrokes' Fast Bank Transfer, for instance, is withdrawal-only. See bank transfer casino withdrawals for more.

Does pay by bank work with casino bonuses?

None of our partners names Pay by Bank as an excluded method in the offer terms we hold. Coral excludes e-wallets, prepaid cards and certain debit cards; Ladbrokes excludes prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe and e-wallets. Casumo says payment restrictions apply without naming them. Offers are 18+ and terms apply, so read the payment line before depositing. Our page on payment method exclusions keeps track.

Will my gambling block stop pay by bank deposits?

It might not. Revolut says its block doesn't affect bank transfers or third-party app payments, and Lloyds says its freeze doesn't cover bank transfers. HSBC's restriction includes its Pay by Bank app, according to the Gambling Commission. Ask your bank exactly what its block covers. GAMSTOP self-exclusion works whatever payment method you use, and our banking blocks guide explains each bank's tool.

Do I need a separate account to pay by bank?

No. It uses the current account and online banking you already have. You choose your bank in the casino's cashier, approve the payment in your banking app and return to the casino. That is different from e-wallets such as Skrill or Neteller, where you need to open and fund a separate account first. Our guide to Trustly casino apps explains one of the main providers.
