Betway Group, Digital Outsource and Betway Limited: who's who

Three names come up around the Betway Android app, and it helps to know which does what.

• Betway Group is the developer name shown on Google Play.
• Digital Outsource International Limited appears in the developer details on Google Play and is also the App Store seller for Betway's iPhone apps.
• Betway Limited holds the Gambling Commission licences, under account 39372, from an address in Gzira, Malta.

Betway Limited's remote casino and real-event betting licences date from 1 November 2014, with a virtual event licence from 9 June 2017, all current on the Gambling Commission's register entry for Betway Limited (opens in a new tab). The whole business is owned by Super Group (SGHC) Limited, a Guernsey-based group listed in New York, which calls the UK Betway's core market.

A developer name that differs from the licensee is common among big operators. The check that matters is that you install from Google Play, where Google only accepts gambling apps from developers that have shown a valid licence for each country they serve.

Steps to install Betway on an Android phone

Button names can differ slightly between Samsung, Pixel and other phones, but the route is the same.

1. Open the Google Play Store on your phone.
2. Search for Betway casino.
3. Open Betway Casino Slots & Games and check the developer line reads Betway Group.
4. Confirm the PEGI 18 rating and read the data safety section.

In March 2020, Betway Limited agreed to an £11.6 million regulatory outcome: £5.8m in lieu of a financial penalty and £5.8m divested. The Gambling Commission found social responsibility and anti-money-laundering failings involving seven high-spending VIP customers, including no source-of-funds checks on one customer who deposited over £8m, with £5.8m of suspected criminal proceeds flowing through the business.
