Which iOS version do casino apps need?

Which iOS version do casino apps need? It depends on the app: our five UK partner casino apps ask for anything from iOS 15.0 to iOS 18.0 on their App Store listings. Coral and Ladbrokes want iOS 18.0, 10bet wants iOS 16.0, and PlayOJO and Casumo accept iOS 15.0. Here's how to read that line and keep up with it.

Key takeaways

  • There's no single iOS requirement: each developer sets its own, and it's printed on the App Store listing.
  • Current partner floors are iOS 18.0 (Coral, Ladbrokes), iOS 16.0 (10bet) and iOS 15.0 (PlayOJO, Casumo).
  • The same apps also list iPadOS, Apple silicon Mac and Apple Vision requirements.
  • Google Play doesn't show a minimum Android version on the web listing, so Android checks happen on the phone.

Which iOS version do casino apps need? The direct answer

No rule sets one iOS version for every gambling app. Each developer chooses a minimum, Apple prints it on the listing as "Requires iOS X.0 or later", and the App Store uses it to decide whether the current build can go on your phone.

For the UK apps we cover in depth, the requirement currently sits between iOS 15.0 and iOS 18.0. The two Entain apps, Coral Casino and Ladbrokes Casino, sit at the top. PlayOJO and Casumo are at the bottom, and 10bet is in between.

If you're wondering about a particular handset rather than a version number, our separate answer on whether casino apps work on older iPhones starts from the phone instead.

iOS version each UK casino app needs, plus iPad, Mac and Vision

Apple listings show more than the iPhone requirement. They also say which iPadOS version is needed and whether the app runs on Macs with Apple silicon or on Apple Vision. The figures below come from the UK App Store listings as checked on 20 October 2026.

Where a Mac is listed, the App Store marks the app "Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS". In plain terms, it's the iPad app running on a Mac, and Apple hasn't checked it as a Mac app. Our page on casino apps on Apple Vision Pro looks at the headset side.

How to read the iOS requirement on a casino app listing

The requirement is easy to miss because it sits near the bottom of the listing. These steps find it without installing anything.

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone and search for the casino app's full store name.
  2. Check the publisher under the app name matches the operator you expect, for example Entain for Coral or Skill On Net Ltd for PlayOJO.
  3. Scroll past the screenshots and description to the information section.
  4. Tap Compatibility to expand it and read the iPhone line, which states the iOS version required.
  5. Compare it with your own version in Settings > General > About.

The publisher check matters as much as the version. A real-money casino app from a UK operator should show a company name you can match against the Gambling Commission's register. You can see what each partner listing looks like on the Coral Casino App Store page (opens in a new tab), and our iPhone download guide walks through the full install.

Why casino apps need a recent iOS version

Operators don't publish their reasons, so what follows is general background on how iOS apps work rather than a statement from any brand.

  • Newer system features. Developers build against recent versions of Apple's software, and supporting very old versions means extra testing.
  • Security. The NCSC advises applying device updates promptly, and a gambling app holds identity documents and payment details.
  • Regulated content. Apple's App Review Guidelines (opens in a new tab) call gambling one of the most regulated offerings on the App Store and require real-money apps to be licensed and geo-restricted to where they're used.
  • One codebase. Brands that share a platform, such as Coral and Ladbrokes, often move their minimums together.

The practical effect is that floors only go up. An app that accepts iOS 15 today may ask for a newer version after a future update, so checking the listing once doesn't settle it for good. Our answer on why casino apps need updates explains the update cycle.

Casino-only apps vs combined sportsbook apps on iPhone

The iOS number isn't the only thing the listing tells you. It also shows whether you're getting a dedicated casino app or a sportsbook with a casino inside it, which affects size and what you see when you open it.

App type and App Store category
AppTypeApp Store categorySize
Coral Casino: Slots & GamesCasino-only (separate from Coral's sportsbook app)Casino101.6 MB
Ladbrokes Casino Games & SlotsCasino-only (separate from Ladbrokes' sportsbook app)Casino101.2 MB
PlayOJO Real Money CasinoCasino-only brandCasino25.4 MB
Casumo Casino & Sports BettingCombined casino and sportsbookCasino52.5 MB
10bet: Sports Betting & CasinoCombined sportsbook and casinoSports112.3 MB

If you only want casino games, searching for the brand name alone may surface the sportsbook app first. Use the exact store names above so you install the app whose iOS requirement you actually checked.

iOS 26 and the 18+ App Store age rating

All five partner listings carry an 18+ age rating. In App Store Connect, Apple defines "Gambling" as betting with real money or with in-game currency that can be exchanged for real money, and its 18+ rating covers gambling and frequent simulated gambling.

Apple's age ratings reference (opens in a new tab) says these newer rating values (4+, 9+, 13+, 16+ and 18+) apply to devices on iOS 26 and later. Older iOS versions are handled under separate rules on that page. The age rating is a store label, not your proof of age: the casino still has to verify you before you can deposit, as our page on casino app age verification explains.

Keeping iOS and your casino app up to date

Two things need updating: the phone's operating system and the app. Both are quick to keep on top of.

  • Turn on automatic iOS updates in Settings > General > Software Update so security fixes arrive without you remembering.
  • Let the App Store update apps automatically, or check the Updates list on your account page now and then.
  • Before a big iOS upgrade, make sure you know your casino account password, as you may need to log in again afterwards.
  • Read the "What's New" notes on the listing if you want to see what changed in a casino app update.

Our casino app update guide goes through the process step by step.

Which Android version do casino apps need?

The Android side is less transparent. When the partner listings were checked, Google Play's web pages didn't show a minimum Android version for any of them, because Play now shows compatibility on the device itself.

In practice, open the Play Store on your Android phone and look at the listing: if the app isn't compatible, Play will tell you there. Our iPhone vs Android casino apps comparison sets out the other differences.

UK rules that apply whatever iOS version you run

The iOS version changes what you can install, not how you're protected. Every licensed app must check your age and identity before you deposit, prompt you to set a financial limit before your first deposit (since 31 October 2025), and show your net spend and time played in real time.

There's a detail aimed squarely at apps, too. The Gambling Commission's technical standards say full-screen apps that hide the phone's clock must show the time of day or the time elapsed, and you must be able to set reality checks. Online slots are capped at £5 a spin for over-25s and £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. You'll find each rule explained in our UK rules for casino apps section.

Welcome offers on apps that meet your iOS version

Our three offers below map neatly onto the iOS spread. PlayOJO runs on iOS 15.0 and later, while Coral and Ladbrokes need iOS 18.0, so check your version before choosing. All three are for over-18s only and full terms apply.

Coral (iOS 18.0+): bet £10 on slots, get 100 spins. New players must deposit (certain types excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots between 1 October 2026 and 1 February 2027; spins are 10p each on selected games, must be accepted within 48 hours and last 7 days, with no wagering on the winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't count.

Ladbrokes (iOS 18.0+): play £10 on slots, get up to 500 spins, released as 50 a day for the first 10 days. Each spin is worth 10p on selected games, each batch must be claimed by 23:59 and used within 7 days, and there's no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits are excluded.

PlayOJO (iOS 15.0+): 80 no-wagering spins on Big Bass Bonanza, 10p each, for new UK customers outside Northern Ireland who make a first deposit of at least £10. Winnings are paid as cash, the offer can't be combined with others, and it's only available through the designated link.

At 10p a spin, the face value is £10 for Coral, up to £50 for Ladbrokes and £8 for PlayOJO. That's the stake value, not an expected win. Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited, so one person may not be able to open new accounts at both.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum iOS version for the Coral Casino app?

The Coral Casino: Slots & Games listing asks for iOS 18.0 or later, and iPadOS 18.0 or later on iPad. It also lists Macs with Apple M1 or later on macOS 15.0 and Apple Vision on visionOS 2.0. The app is 101.6 MB and published under Entain. Our Coral Casino iPhone app page has the full listing details, including the privacy label.

Which casino app works on iOS 15?

Among our partners, PlayOJO Real Money Casino and Casumo Casino & Sports Betting both list iOS 15.0 or later. PlayOJO is a casino-only app at 25.4 MB, while Casumo combines casino and sports betting in one 52.5 MB app. Requirements can rise with updates, so confirm on the App Store before relying on it. See our Casumo iPhone app page for that listing in detail.

Does the Ladbrokes Casino app need iOS 18?

Yes. The Ladbrokes Casino Games & Slots listing on the UK App Store asks for iOS 18.0 or later, the same as its sister app Coral. It's a standalone casino app, separate from the Ladbrokes sportsbook app, and weighs 101.2 MB. If your iPhone can't reach iOS 18, the Ladbrokes mobile website is the alternative. Read more on the Ladbrokes Casino iPhone app page.

What happens if my iOS is older than the app requires?

The App Store won't install the current version of that app on your phone. First check Settings > General > Software Update in case a newer iOS is available for your handset. If it isn't, use the operator's mobile website in Safari or choose an app with a lower requirement. Our guide to casino apps on older phones runs through the options.

Do casino apps work on Mac?

Some do, as iPad apps. The Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO and Casumo listings include Macs with Apple M1 or later, marked "Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS", which means Apple hasn't checked them as Mac apps. The 10bet listing doesn't include Mac at all. A desktop browser is often the simpler route on a computer. See our devices hub for every platform.

Why did a casino app stop working after I didn't update iOS?

Usually because the app updated and raised its minimum iOS, or because the old app version is no longer supported by the operator. Developers set their own requirements and these tend to go up over time. Update iOS if your phone allows it, then update the app from the App Store. Our answer on why casino apps need updates explains more.

Is the iOS age rating the same as age verification?

No. The 18+ rating on the App Store is a label that helps parents and Screen Time filter content. Age verification is a legal check the casino itself must complete before you can deposit or gamble, using your name, address and date of birth. Free demo games also need it. Our age verification rules page sets out what operators must do.

Where can I find more answers about casino apps on iPhone?

Start with our casino app questions hub, which collects short, direct answers on downloads, payments, storage, blocking and the UK rules. For a ranked view of the apps themselves, see our list of the best casino apps for iPhone. Every answer sticks to what app listings, operators and the Gambling Commission publish, and each app's minimum iOS is rechecked when we update its page.
