How long does casino app verification take?

How long does casino app verification take? For most UK players it happens during sign-up, because the app checks your name, address and date of birth against databases before you can deposit. If that check can't confirm you, document review adds time: PlayOJO, for example, aims to verify within 12 hours, while most operators publish no figure at all.

Key takeaways

  • UK casino apps must verify your age and identity before you deposit or gamble, so verification comes first, not later.
  • A database check against your name, address and date of birth is usually the first step; documents are only needed if that fails.
  • PlayOJO aims to verify uploaded documents within 12 hours and asks you to contact support after 48 hours; Coral, Ladbrokes, Casumo and 10bet publish no verification time.
  • Separate financial checks can start later, once net deposits with an operator pass £150 in 30 days.

How long casino app verification takes: the short answer

Casino app verification usually takes no longer than the sign-up form itself, because the first check runs as you register. When the app can match your details to records held by credit reference agencies or the electoral roll, you can move on to your first deposit.

The waiting starts only when that automatic match fails. Then the operator asks for documents, and the time depends on how quickly you upload clear copies and how fast its team reviews them. Only one of our five partner apps publishes a target: PlayOJO says it aims to verify within 12 hours.

So the honest answer has two parts: near the start of sign-up if the database check works, and anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days if a person has to look at your documents. For the background on what is checked, see how casino apps verify your identity, and browse more answers in our casino app questions hub.

The stages of casino app verification, in order

Verification is not one event. It is a sequence, and each stage has its own trigger and its own likely wait.

Casino app verification stages and published timings
StageWhat triggers itWhat it involvesPublished time
Database checkRegistering an accountName, address and date of birth matched against recordsRuns during sign-up; no operator publishes a figure
Document uploadDatabase check can't confirm youPhoto ID and sometimes proof of addressPlayOJO: aims for 12 hours; others not published

The first two stages decide when you can deposit. The last one happens later and is a different kind of check, explained further down. If documents are requested, what documents casino apps ask for sets out the usual list.

Why UK casino apps verify you before you can play

Since 7 May 2019, online operators licensed in Great Britain have had to verify a customer's age and identity before allowing them to deposit or gamble. That includes playing with a bonus or a free bet. Before then, operators had 72 hours to complete age checks, which meant someone could gamble before being confirmed as an adult.

The rule sits in licence condition 17.1.1 on customer identity verification (opens in a new tab), and the Gambling Commission's guide to age and ID verification (opens in a new tab) explains it for players. The minimum details are your name, address and date of birth. Free-to-play demo versions of gambling games are covered too: you must be age-verified before you can open them, which is why an app may not show demos until you've registered.

This is why verification time matters more than it used to. Nothing happens on a UK-licensed app until it is done. Our page on UK identity check rules covers the licence condition in more depth, and age verification in casino apps explains the age side.

Verification on the Coral, Ladbrokes, PlayOJO, Casumo and 10bet apps

Each partner is licensed by the Gambling Commission, so each must verify you before your first deposit. What differs is how much they publish about the process.

What each partner publishes about verification

PlayOJO's help page (opens in a new tab) is the most specific. It says documents go through its upload tool rather than email, that it aims to verify within 12 hours, and that you should contact support if you have no answer within 48 hours. It also notes that documents may be requested after your first withdrawal request, and that limits may apply until verification is complete. Our PlayOJO verification guide walks through it.

For the two Entain brands, see Coral app verification and Ladbrokes app verification. Where a time isn't published, treat any figure you read elsewhere with caution and ask live chat in the app instead.

What makes casino app verification take longer

Most delays come from a mismatch between what you typed and what the records or documents show. These are the common causes:

  • Details that don't match records. A nickname instead of your legal name, a missing flat number or a recent house move can stop the database match.
  • Blurry or cropped photos. A reviewer can't approve a document whose edges, expiry date or photo are cut off or out of focus.
  • Out-of-date documents. An expired passport or an old bill may be refused, depending on the operator's rules.
  • Sending documents the wrong way. PlayOJO, for instance, asks for its upload tool rather than email.
  • Weekend or late-night submissions. Operators don't publish review hours for documents, so a queue is possible.

If your check has failed outright rather than slowed down, what to do when casino app verification fails covers the next steps.

How to get verified faster on a casino app

You can't control the operator's queue, but you can remove most of the reasons a check stalls. Before you start, have your documents to hand.

  1. Enter your full legal name exactly as it appears on your passport or driving licence.
  2. Type your current address in full, including any flat number and the correct postcode.
  3. Check your date of birth before you submit; a slip here is a common cause of a failed match.
  4. If documents are requested, photograph them flat, in good light, with all four corners visible.
  5. Upload them through the app's own upload option rather than email, unless the operator says otherwise.
  6. Watch your inbox and the app's messages, because a follow-up request can arrive later.
  7. If nothing changes within the time the operator gives, contact live chat or email with your username to hand.

Our checklist before you sign up to a casino app covers the rest of the preparation, from payment methods to limits.

Does verification hold up your first withdrawal?

It shouldn't, if the operator did its job up front. The Commission's rules say a business can't make proof of age or identity a condition of withdrawing if it could reasonably have asked for it earlier, unless the law requires the check at that point. Its guidance on identity verification (opens in a new tab) adds that terms should not let an operator remove your funds because you can't verify.

That doesn't mean withdrawals are instant. Coral and Ladbrokes say a review team approves each request first (Coral's withdrawal timeframes page (opens in a new tab) sets this out), and then the money takes from instantly to five banking days depending on the method. That approval step is a payment check, not a repeat of your ID check. Read how long casino app withdrawals take for method-by-method times, or why a casino app withdrawal is pending if yours seems stuck.

Later checks: the £150 financial vulnerability check

A second kind of check can start long after sign-up. Since 28 February 2025, when your deposits minus withdrawals with one operator go over £150 in a rolling 30 days, that operator must run a financial vulnerability check under LCCP 3.4.4 (opens in a new tab). This looks at public records such as bankruptcy, county court judgments, IVAs and debt relief orders.

A repeat check isn't needed at the threshold if one was done in the previous 12 months. These checks are separate from the credit-reference-based financial risk assessments that were piloted: the Commission says those are not live, and that 'affordability check' is not an accurate description of its plans.

No operator publishes how long this check takes. Our financial risk checks rules page explains both checks, and the glossary defines net deposits.

Casino app verification taking too long? What to do next

Start with the operator. Live chat in the app is usually the quickest route, and having your username and the date you uploaded documents ready helps. PlayOJO's 48-hour point is a useful benchmark even for apps that don't publish one.

If the problem drags on, use the operator's complaints process. A business has eight weeks to resolve a complaint, and after that it must offer to refer you to an independent alternative dispute resolution provider, free of charge. See how to complain about a casino app.

The rules also say an operator can't confiscate your money because you didn't log in or verify within a set time limit. Your deposit stays yours while a check is resolved.

Verified apps with welcome offers: Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO

Because verification has to be finished before you can deposit, it is the real first step towards any welcome offer. The three partners below all work that way. You must be 18+, and terms apply.

  • Coral Casino: new players who deposit (certain payment types excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots get 100 free spins on selected games, each worth 10p. Accept them within 48 hours and use them within 7 days; free spin winnings carry no wagering. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid card and certain debit card deposits don't qualify. The offer runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
  • Ladbrokes Casino: new customers who deposit and spend £10 or more on slots get 50 free spins a day for their first 10 days, up to 500 in total, at 10p each on selected games. Claim before 23:59 each day; spins last 7 days; no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don't qualify.
  • PlayOJO: new UK customers (excluding Northern Ireland) who make a first deposit of at least £10 get 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p each, with no wagering and winnings paid in cash. It can't be combined with other offers and is only available through the designated offer link.

At face value that is £10 of spins at Coral (100 × 10p), up to £50 at Ladbrokes (500 × 10p) and £8 at PlayOJO (80 × 10p). Results are random and the house edge applies, so treat any return as a bonus, not an expectation.

All three apps must verify you before a deposit counts, so the welcome offer only starts once your checks are complete.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open another; check the terms first.

Frequently asked questions

How long does PlayOJO take to verify an account?

PlayOJO says it aims to verify accounts within 12 hours. Its help page asks you to upload a passport, driving licence, ID card or utility bill through its upload tool, not by email, and to contact support if you've had no answer within 48 hours. It also says documents may be requested after a first withdrawal request, and limits may apply until checks are complete. Our PlayOJO verification page covers the process in more detail.

Can I play on a casino app while verification is pending?

No. A UK-licensed casino app must verify your age and identity before you deposit or gamble, including with a bonus. Since 2019 there has been no grace period, so a pending check means you wait. Demo games are covered as well: you must be age-verified before playing free-to-play versions. Our page on UK age verification rules explains the background, and do casino apps check ID? covers what is checked.

Why is the app asking for documents when I've already signed up?

Usually because the automatic database check couldn't match your name, address and date of birth. The operator then needs documents to confirm who you are. A later request can also follow an account review or a payment check. Make sure the details you entered match your ID exactly before you upload anything. Why a casino app asked for your passport looks at the reasons in more detail, including what each document proves.

Do I have to verify again if I use the website instead of the app?

Generally no, because verification attaches to your account with the operator rather than to the device you're using. The app and the website are two ways into that one account, so a completed check should carry across. If either one asks you to verify again, contact the operator's support team to find out why. Our answer on using the same account on the app and the website explains what else carries over.

Can a casino app hold my withdrawal until I send ID?

Only in limited cases. The Gambling Commission says a business can't make ID a condition of withdrawing if it could reasonably have asked earlier, unless the law requires the check at that point. Operators also still run a payment review before releasing money, which is a separate step. If you think a withdrawal is being held unfairly, follow the operator's complaints process, then use ADR. See how to withdraw from a casino app.

Which documents get verified fastest?

No operator publishes speeds by document type, so there's no reliable ranking. What helps is a clear, in-date photo ID whose details match exactly what you typed at sign-up, plus a recent proof of address if asked. PlayOJO names a passport, driving licence, ID card or utility bill. Photograph documents flat with all four corners in view. The full list is in what documents casino apps ask for.

Does Coral or Ladbrokes publish a verification time?

No. Neither Coral nor Ladbrokes publishes a verification time on the help pages we used, and both are run by LC International Limited under account 54743. What they do publish is how withdrawals work: a review team approves the request, then the method takes from instantly to five banking days. For anything about your own check, ask live chat in the app. See Coral verification or Ladbrokes verification.

What is the £150 check and does it slow down my account?

It's a financial vulnerability check that an operator must run when your deposits minus withdrawals with it exceed £150 in a rolling 30 days. It looks at public records such as bankruptcy or county court judgments. No operator publishes how long it takes, and for most people it happens in the background. It isn't an affordability check: credit-based risk assessments are not live. Read more on financial risk checks and the financial risk check glossary entry.
