Coral Casino app verification happens before you can deposit or play: UK rules make Coral confirm your age, name, address and date of birth first. For most people an automatic database check does the job, and documents are only requested when that check can’t match you. Here is how it works, what to send and what slows it down.

Key takeaways

  • Coral must verify your age and identity before your first deposit, bet or free-to-play game.
  • The minimum details checked are your name, address and date of birth; documents are only needed if the electronic check fails.
  • Coral doesn’t publish a verification time, so upload clear documents promptly if asked.
  • Extra checks can follow later, such as payment ownership, source of funds or a financial vulnerability check.
  • UK rules stop Coral asking for ID at withdrawal if it could have asked earlier.

How Coral Casino app verification works

Every new account in the Coral Casino app goes through an age and identity check before any money moves. That is not a Coral quirk: it is a condition of the remote casino licence held by LC International Limited, the Entain company behind Coral, and it applies equally to the website and the app. Our Coral Casino app review covers the wider picture; this page sticks to the ID side.

The check normally runs in two layers. First, the details you type at sign-up in the Coral app are compared electronically with records such as credit reference agency data and the electoral roll. If those records confirm who you are and that you’re 18 or over, you can carry on. If they don’t, Coral asks you for documents before you can deposit.

The rule also covers games you don’t pay to play. The App Store listing for “Coral Casino: Slots & Games” mentions free-to-play games with real-money prizes, and UK rules say even free-to-play versions of gambling games sit behind age verification. So you can’t browse demo play while unverified.

An electronic identity check is not a credit application. It confirms who you are; it isn’t a lending decision. Coral’s own privacy and terms pages explain exactly which agencies it uses.

The UK rules behind Coral’s ID checks

The current system dates from 7 May 2019, when the Gambling Commission brought in rules requiring online operators to finish age verification before a customer can gamble. Before that, operators had 72 hours to complete age checks, which meant someone could play first and be checked afterwards. The Commission’s announcement of the new ID rules (opens in a new tab) set the minimum data at name, address and date of birth.

The same package stopped operators using ID as a stalling tactic. If a business could reasonably have asked for proof of identity at sign-up, it can’t make that proof a condition of paying out your winnings later. The Commission’s guide to age and ID verification (opens in a new tab) explains this from a player’s point of view, and our page on UK identity check rules goes through the detail.

Getting verified in the Coral app, step by step

The exact screens depend on the version of the app, so treat this as an outline rather than a menu map. The App Store listing says the iPhone app needs iOS 18.0 or later; on Android, the Google Play listing doesn’t show a minimum version, so update your phone first.

  1. Install the official app, “Coral Casino: Slots & Games” on the App Store or “Coral™ Casino: Slots & Games” on Google Play.
  2. Register using your legal name exactly as it appears on your bank card and ID, with no nicknames or shortened forms.
  3. Enter your current home address and date of birth. A recent move is the commonest reason electronic checks don’t match.
  4. Submit the form and wait for the result. If you pass, the app moves you on to set a deposit limit before your first deposit.
  5. If the app asks for documents, use its upload option or follow the instructions in the message, and photograph each page flat, in good light, with all four corners showing.
  6. Wait for confirmation before trying to deposit, then add a payment method in your own name.

Which documents the Coral app may ask for

Coral doesn’t publish a fixed document list in the sources available to us, and the request message in your account is what counts. That said, UK operators ask for evidence in a few predictable categories, each answering a different question. Our guide to what documents casino apps ask for goes deeper on each.

Typical verification requests and what they prove
CheckWhat it confirmsEvidence UK operators commonly accept
IdentityYou are who you say you are, and 18+Passport or photocard driving licence
AddressWhere you liveRecent utility bill, council tax bill or bank statement
Payment ownershipThe card or account is yoursStatement or screenshot showing your name and payment details
Source of fundsWhere your gambling money comes fromPayslips, bank statements or similar

Payment ownership matters at Coral because its help centre describes own-name payment rules (opens in a new tab) and a closed-loop withdrawal policy, which means money generally goes back to the method it came from. The same help pages also mention a UK limit of three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days.

Never send a full card number. If a card image is needed, cover the middle digits and the security code; legitimate operators don’t need them.

How long Coral app verification takes

Coral does not publish a target time for identity checks. Electronic checks usually return a result within the sign-up flow, because they’re automated database matches. Document reviews involve a person, so they take longer and depend on the quality of what you upload and how busy the team is.

Verification is also separate from withdrawal processing. Coral’s help centre says a review team approves each withdrawal internally, and then the payment takes anywhere from instantly to five banking days depending on the method. For Visa Fast Funds, it says approval typically takes a couple of hours and the money then typically reaches your bank within four hours, with payouts over £2,000 taking longer. Our Coral withdrawals guide breaks these times down.

  • Blurred, cropped or glare-covered photos are the classic cause of a second request.
  • Names that don’t match across your account, card and document slow everything down.
  • An address that has changed recently may need a document showing the new one.
  • Documents that look out of date may be rejected, so check the date before uploading.

Checks after sign-up: payments, funds and the £150 trigger

Passing the first check doesn’t mean Coral will never ask again. Two kinds of later check are common across UK casino apps, and both come from the operator’s licence duties rather than suspicion of you personally.

Financial vulnerability checks

Since 28 February 2025, operators must run a light-touch financial vulnerability check when a customer’s deposits minus withdrawals pass £150 in a rolling 30 days. It looks at public records such as bankruptcy or county court judgments, and you normally won’t see it happen. The fuller credit-reference “financial risk assessments” were only piloted and are not live; see our explainer on financial risk checks.

Source of funds

Larger or faster spending can prompt a source of funds request. Coral’s owner has a direct history here: in August 2022 the Gambling Commission announced a £17 million settlement by Entain, £14 million of it from LC International Limited, partly because large deposits had been allowed without enough source-of-funds checks. Stricter checks since then are part of the response to that case, which our Coral safety page covers in full.

Because ID is checked up front, a fully verified account should not hit a surprise ID wall at withdrawal. Commission guidance says a business can’t make ID a condition of withdrawing if it could have asked earlier, except where the law requires a check at that point, and it can’t confiscate your money because you didn’t verify within a time limit.

Coral’s help centre says it charges no withdrawal fees. UK rules also mean you can’t reverse a withdrawal once requested, which removes the temptation to cancel it and keep playing. If a payout does stall, our guide to a pending casino app withdrawal lists sensible next steps.

Coral verification failed or stuck? What to do

A failed electronic check is rarely a problem in itself: it simply means the databases couldn’t match you, so documents are needed. Work through these in order before you chase support.

  1. Check your profile for typos in your name, date of birth or postcode.
  2. Re-upload any document that was blurred, cropped or out of date.
  3. Make sure your payment method is in the same name as your account.
  4. Contact Coral by live chat or email; our Coral customer support guide covers the published channels.
  5. If you’re still stuck after a reasonable wait, follow the general advice in casino app verification failed.

If you were refused because you already hold, or have closed, an account with a sister brand, that is a different issue, covered below.

What happens to the data you hand over

The App Store privacy label for the Coral Casino app lists Contact Info, Financial Info, Identifiers and coarse Location among the data linked to you. That fits an app that has to know who you are and where you are playing from. The label also lists User Content and Usage Data as used to track you, which is worth knowing if you care about advertising profiles.

You can read more on how casino apps use your data. If you think an operator has mishandled your personal data and its own complaints process doesn’t resolve it, the Information Commissioner’s Office complaints service (opens in a new tab) is the UK route.

Coral, Ladbrokes and one shared identity check

Coral and Ladbrokes both run under LC International Limited (UKGC account 54743), so your details are checked by the same company whichever brand you join. In practice one person may not be able to open new accounts at both, and only one welcome offer per customer applies at Coral. Our Coral vs Ladbrokes comparison explains how the two apps differ.

The shared ownership also matters for safer gambling. The 2022 settlement noted a customer who was blocked by Coral and then opened a Ladbrokes account, and checks across the group are meant to prevent exactly that. If you’ve self-excluded from one Entain brand, expect to be refused by the others.

Coral and Ladbrokes welcome offers once you’re verified

Neither offer can be claimed until your account is verified, so getting ID right is step one. Coral’s welcome offer is for new players aged 18+ and runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027: deposit (some methods excluded) and bet £10 or more on slots to get 100 free spins on selected games, worth 10p each, to accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days, with no wagering on free spin winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify, and terms apply.

Ladbrokes, the sister brand, offers new customers aged 18+ up to 500 free spins: deposit and spend £10 or more on slots to get 50 spins a day for 10 days, at 10p each on selected games, claimed before 23:59 each day and valid for 7 days, with no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don’t qualify. Remember you may not be able to hold new accounts at both, and spins are a slot offer, not something to use on table or live games. Compare all our picks in the best casino apps in the UK.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Coral Casino app need ID?

Yes, the Coral Casino app must verify your age and identity before you deposit or play. UK rules set the minimum as your name, address and date of birth. Most people pass an automatic database check during sign-up without uploading anything, but if that check can’t match you, Coral will ask for documents. You can read the wider rules in our guide to how casino apps verify your identity or the Coral sign-up walkthrough.

How long does Coral verification take?

Coral doesn’t publish a verification time. Electronic checks are automated, so they usually return a result during registration, while document reviews involve a person and take longer, especially if photos are unclear or details don’t match. Upload sharp, complete images the first time and keep your account name identical to your ID. Our answer on how long casino app verification takes explains what typically slows checks down.

Why did the Coral app ask for my passport?

It usually means the automatic database check couldn’t confirm your identity or age, so Coral needs a document instead. Common reasons are a recent house move, a name spelt differently from your records or a thin credit file. It isn’t an accusation, just the licence rules in action. See our answer to why a casino app asked for your passport for the typical causes.

Can I play free games in the Coral app without verifying?

No. UK rules say customers must be age-verified before they can use free-to-play versions of gambling games, and the Coral app’s free-to-play prize games fall under that. Until your age is confirmed you won’t be able to try demos or prize games. Our page on free-to-play game rules explains why the Gambling Commission closed that gap and what it means for demo mode in casino apps.

Will Coral ask for ID when I withdraw?

It shouldn’t, if you’re already verified. Gambling Commission rules say a business can’t make proof of identity a condition of withdrawing if it could have asked earlier, apart from cases where the law requires a check at that point. Separate checks, such as confirming payment ownership or source of funds, can still happen. Our Coral withdrawals page explains approval times, and UK withdrawal rights are covered separately.

Does Coral’s ID check affect my credit score?

An identity check is used to confirm who you are, not to grant credit, so it shouldn’t be treated like a loan application. Operators use credit reference agency and electoral roll data to match your details. The fuller credit-based financial risk assessments were only piloted and are not live. Read more in our explainer on the KYC process and our page on financial risk checks.

Why might Coral ask where my money comes from?

A source-of-funds request is a standard anti-money-laundering and safer-gambling check that can follow larger or faster deposits. Coral’s owner was criticised in a 2022 Gambling Commission settlement for not doing enough of these checks, so expect them to be taken seriously. Payslips or bank statements are typical evidence. Our glossary entry on source of funds explains the process, and the Coral safety page covers the 2022 case.

Can I verify once for both Coral and Ladbrokes?

Both brands are run by LC International Limited, so the same company handles your details, but they are separate brands and one person may not be able to open new accounts at both. If you already have an account with one, contact support before registering with the other rather than opening a second account. Our answer on whether you can hold Coral and Ladbrokes accounts explains the group rules in more detail.
