Is live casino on mobile real?

Is live casino on mobile real? Yes. In a UK-licensed app, a live table is a real-time video stream of a real dealer using physical cards, wheels or dice, and the result comes from that equipment rather than a random number generator. The catch is that some games in the same lobby only look live, so it pays to know the difference.

Key takeaways

  • Live dealer games are streamed in real time from studios or casino floors, and results come from physical equipment.
  • First Person games and Auto Roulette sit near live tables but are not the same thing: one is RNG animation, the other an automated wheel with no dealer.
  • Real does not mean favourable: European roulette still carries a 2.70% house edge on a phone.
  • UK rules on autoplay, game speed and spend display apply to live casino in apps.

Is live casino on mobile real? The short answer

Live casino on mobile is real in the sense that matters most: a person deals real cards or spins a real wheel, a camera films it, and your phone shows the stream as it happens. When you bet, the outcome is decided by what physically happens at that table, not by software inventing a result.

Live dealer games are streamed from a land-based casino or from a studio built to look like one. Evolution says its games are broadcast (opens in a new tab) in real time, often 24 hours a day, from studios set up like TV sets with multi-camera video, lighting and sound. You can read how that works on our live casino apps hub, and more quick answers are in our casino app questions hub.

What isn't always real is the label. A casino app's live section can sit next to animated games that borrow the same names, so check what you're opening before you stake.

How a real live casino table reaches your phone

A live casino set-up needs at least three rooms: the studio where the dealer works, a server and software room, and an analyst's room. Optical character recognition turns the dealer's physical result, such as a card or the pocket the ball lands in, into data the game software can settle bets with.

Your phone connects to that stream through the casino app. Evolution says players connect by phone or computer and use the game software to bet, make in-game decisions and chat. Pragmatic Play says its studios use multiple 4K cameras, that its in-house streaming has a delay as low as 1.5 to 2 seconds (conditions apply), and that its live games run in HTML5 on desktop and mobile.

  1. The dealer runs the round at a physical table in the studio.
  2. Cameras capture the table and the stream is sent out with a short delay.
  3. Recognition software reads the result and passes it to the game server.
  4. The casino app on your phone shows the video and your bet panel together.
  5. Winning bets are settled to your balance in the casino app.

Because the picture travels over your connection, a weak signal can freeze the video without changing what happened at the table. Our guide to how casino apps handle disconnections explains what to expect if you drop out mid-round.

Live, automated or animated: telling them apart in an app

Casino lobbies often group several kinds of table game together. Only one of them has a human dealer deciding the result with real equipment.

Types of table game you may see in a mobile casino lobby
Game typeWho or what decides the resultHuman dealer?Example
Live dealer tablePhysical cards, wheel or dice, filmed in real timeYesLive blackjack, live roulette

Automated live wheelA real, fully automated wheelNoEvolution's Auto Roulette
First Person gameRandom number generator with 3D animationNoFirst Person Lightning Roulette
Standard RNG tableRandom number generatorNoDigital roulette or blackjack

Evolution's Auto Roulette uses a real wheel but no dealer, and its Speed Auto Roulette runs 2,500 games a day. First Person games are fully digital, with a button to move across to the live version. Neither is fake, but neither is a person dealing to you.

How to check a live game on your phone is genuine

You don't need special knowledge to confirm what you're playing. A few checks inside the app cover it.

  1. Confirm the app belongs to a casino licensed by the Gambling Commission. The licence holder's name and account number are usually in the app's footer or terms, and you can look them up on the Commission's public register.
  2. Open the game and read its help or rules screen. UK rules require game descriptions and the likelihood of winning to be available to you.
  3. Look for the game supplier's name in that help screen, for example Evolution or Pragmatic Play.
  4. Check whether the title says First Person or Auto. Those are not dealt by a person.
  5. Watch one round without betting. A live table shows a real person and real equipment, with a countdown for bets before each round.

Who checks that live casino on mobile is real?

In Great Britain, both the casino app and the studio behind the stream need licences. Evolution's GB licence is held by Evolution Malta Holding Limited under Gambling Commission account 41655. The Commission's technical standards include a whole section, RTS 17, on live dealer studios, and RTS 7 covers how random outcomes are produced for digital games.

Enforcement reaches suppliers too. On 23 July 2026 the Commission announced that Evolution Malta Holding Limited would pay £4.75 million after its games appeared on six unlicensed websites that people in Great Britain could reach. The Commission said its money laundering risk assessment was outdated. You can read the Commission's Evolution settlement notice (opens in a new tab).

That case is a reason to stick to licensed apps. An unlicensed site may show the same branded table, but you get none of the UK protections. Our guide on how casino apps are licensed in the UK shows what to check.

Real live casino still has a house edge

A real dealer makes the game genuine, not generous. The payouts are set below the true odds, so the casino keeps an edge on every bet. On a single-zero wheel, a straight-up bet wins one time in 37 but pays 35 to 1, which gives a house edge of 2.70%.

Here's what that means in pounds. Evolution says its Speed Roulette rounds take 25 seconds, about half a standard round, so a standard table runs at roughly 50 seconds a round, or about 72 rounds an hour. At £1 a round, that's £72 staked an hour, and 2.70% of £72 is about £1.94 in expected losses. Real sessions swing well above and below that figure.

Game shows can cost more. Evolution gives Crazy Time a theoretical RTP of 94.41% to 96.08% depending on the bet, so the edge is 3.92% to 5.59%. See house edge by game for a wider comparison.

What changes when you play real live casino on a phone

The table is the same one desktop players see. What changes is how you see it and how you bet.

  • Screen size: the betting grid and video share a small screen, so mis-taps are easier. Slow down when placing chips.
  • Connection: live video needs a steady connection, unlike most RNG games. See how much data live casino uses.
  • Delay: a stream that runs a second or two behind is normal. The betting countdown already allows for it.
  • Battery: continuous video uses more power than a static game screen.

UK rules that apply to live casino in apps

Live tables sit under the same game design rules as other online casino games. The Commission banned autoplay for all online casino products (see RTS 14 on responsible product design (opens in a new tab)) from 17 January 2025 and said it saw no convincing reason to leave live casino out. A re-bet button is allowed, because you still press it yourself each round.

Frequently asked questions

Are live casino games on apps rigged?

No, not at a UK-licensed app. The result comes from real cards, wheels or dice filmed in real time, and both the casino and the studio need Gambling Commission licences. That doesn't make it a good bet, though: the payouts build in a house edge, so you should expect to lose over time. For more on fairness checks, read our answer to do casino apps rig games.

Are live casino games pre-recorded?

Genuine live dealer games are not pre-recorded. They are streamed in real time, and suppliers such as Evolution say many tables run 24 hours a day. The video runs a second or two behind real time because of streaming delay, and the betting countdown allows for it. If a game has no human and reacts the moment you tap, it's probably an RNG or First Person game. Our live dealer glossary entry explains the difference.

Does the app show the same live tables as the website?

Usually, yes. The studio streams one table to every device, so phone and desktop players see the same dealer and the same results. What differs is the layout: on a phone the video and betting controls share a smaller screen. Check the app's lobby, as a casino's app and site may not list exactly the same tables. Our answer on whether the app is the same as the website covers the wider differences.

How can I tell if a roulette game in an app is live?

Open the game's help screen and read the title and supplier name. A live table shows a dealer and a physical wheel with a countdown for bets. Auto Roulette uses a real wheel with no dealer, and First Person Roulette is an RNG animation. All three can be legitimate at a licensed casino, but only the first has a person running it. See Lightning Roulette in apps for a popular live example.

Does live casino work on 4G?

It can, but a live table streams video continuously, so a weak or patchy signal can freeze the picture or drop you out. Wi-Fi tends to be steadier at home. If you lose the stream mid-round, the round still finishes at the table and the casino settles it under its rules for interrupted play. Our answers on does live casino work on 4G and live casino data usage go into more detail.

Can I use a welcome bonus on live casino in an app?

Usually not. Our partners' welcome offers are free spins or bonuses aimed at slots, and live and table games are often excluded or count for less towards any wagering. Always read the offer terms before you play a live table with bonus money. Our answer to can I use a bonus on live casino in the app explains the common restrictions, and the Coral welcome bonus page shows one offer's terms in full.

Which studios supply real live casino to UK apps?

Evolution is the best-known supplier, and its brands include Evolution and Ezugi for live casino. Pragmatic Play Live, Playtech Live and Stakelogic Live also run live studios, and Stakelogic launched in the UK in May 2026. Which studios you get depends on the casino app, so check the game's help screen for the supplier's name. Our pages on Evolution live games and Pragmatic Play Live cover the two biggest.

How do I play live casino on mobile safely?

It's safe in the regulatory sense if you use a UK-licensed app from the official App Store or Google Play. Safe play is also about money and time. Set a deposit limit before your first deposit, keep an eye on the net spend and session time the app shows, and take breaks. If gambling stops feeling like entertainment, the National Gambling Helpline is free on 0808 8020 133. See setting deposit limits and our safer gambling hub.
