Is European roulette available on apps?

Yes, European roulette is available on apps. Single-zero roulette is made by the big studios that supply UK casinos, as live tables, automated wheels and multiplier games, and it's worth seeking out. The Coral and Ladbrokes app listings mention roulette, but no partner publishes its full table list, so check your app's lobby.

Key takeaways

  • European roulette has one green zero and 37 pockets, for a 2.70% house edge.
  • American roulette adds a double zero, raising the edge to 5.26%.
  • Evolution offers live European tables, a European Auto Roulette and single-zero Lightning Roulette.
  • Partner app listings mention roulette but don't name variants, so check the lobby and help screen.
  • Spin outcomes are random; no pattern or system changes the odds.

Is European roulette available on apps? Yes, in several forms

European roulette is the single-zero version of the game: a wheel numbered 1 to 36 plus one green zero, 37 pockets in all. It's widely made for online casinos. The live casino developer Evolution offers Live European Roulette (opens in a new tab) in standard and VIP versions, and single-zero wheels also sit under several of its newer formats.

For UK app players that's good news, because the single zero keeps the house edge at 2.70%, against 5.26% on an American double-zero wheel. Our full guide to European roulette on mobile covers the rules; this page focuses on finding the game in an app and telling it apart from other versions.

You'll find more short answers like this in our casino app questions section, including which roulette game gives the best value on an app.

How to tell European roulette from American on a phone

Game names aren't always clear, so look at the wheel and the betting layout. The quickest test is to count the green pockets.

On a small screen, the zero area at the top of the betting grid is the giveaway: one box means single zero; two boxes, or a box marked 00, means American. The game's help screen should also say how many zeros the wheel has.

European roulette versions you can find in UK apps

Single-zero maths appears under several brand names. Here are the versions whose developers confirm a single-zero or European wheel on their own pages.

Single-zero roulette games confirmed by their developers
GameDeveloperFormatWhat's different
Live European RouletteEvolutionLive dealerStandard and VIP tables
French RouletteEvolutionLive dealerLa Partage on even-money bets
Auto Roulette (European version)EvolutionAutomated wheel, no dealer60–80 games an hour
Lightning RouletteEvolutionLive, auto-spun wheel1–5 Lucky Numbers with 50×–500× multipliers; unstruck straight-ups pay 29 to 1
Gold Vault RouletteEvolutionLive with an RNG elementEuropean roulette with 50× Gold Bars on random spots
Mega RoulettePragmatic PlayLive dealerSingle zero, with 50×–500× multipliers on straight-ups

The multiplier games change the payouts on straight-up bets, so they aren't plain European roulette even though the wheel is single zero. Lightning Roulette on mobile explains that trade-off, and Auto Roulette (opens in a new tab) shows Evolution's dealer-free version, which also comes in French and American forms.

RNG (computer-generated) single-zero games exist too. Under the Commission's RTS 7 standard (opens in a new tab), a simulated wheel must have the same theoretical probabilities as the real device it copies, so an RNG European wheel should behave like a physical one with 37 pockets.

European roulette in the Coral, Ladbrokes and PlayOJO apps

The App Store listing for the Coral Casino app mentions blackjack, roulette and Live Casino, and the Ladbrokes Casino app listing mentions roulette and live casino including game shows. The PlayOJO app lists table games and live casino. None of them publishes which roulette variants are in its lobby, so we can't confirm a specific European table in any of them.

That's easy to check yourself once you're signed in. The app's search and its live casino section are the places to look; our pages on the Coral live casino app and Ladbrokes live casino app set out what each operator publishes.

How to find a European roulette table in a casino app

  1. Open the casino app and go to its roulette or live casino section.
  2. Search for "European" or "French"; French tables are single zero too.
  3. Open a table and look at the zero area of the betting grid: one zero means single zero.
  4. Open the help screen and confirm the wheel type, payouts and RTP or house edge.
  5. Check the table's minimum and maximum bets before joining.
  6. For a live table, make sure your connection is steady before you bet.

If the only roulette you can find in an app is a double-zero table, weigh that up: a single-zero wheel costs about half as much per bet. Don't settle for American roulette just because it's first in the list.

European roulette odds and payouts on mobile

Every standard bet on a single-zero wheel carries the same 2.70% edge. The payout changes with how many numbers you cover; the chance of winning changes to match.

Dozen122 to 112 in 37 (32.43%)
Red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36181 to 118 in 37 (48.65%)

A worked example: a £2 straight-up bet wins £70 once in 37 spins on average and loses £2 the other 36 times. That's £70 won against £72 lost over 37 spins, an average loss of about 5.4p per spin, or 2.70%. Wizard of Odds' roulette basics (opens in a new tab) sets out the same payouts. Our guide to roulette bets on a phone screen shows where each one sits on the layout.

Why European roulette is the one to look for in an app

American roulette pays exactly the same odds on a wheel with an extra pocket. Wizard of Odds puts American roulette at 5.26% (opens in a new tab), nearly double the European figure. Evolution says its own American Roulette also has lower betting limits than its other roulette games.

  • 100 spins at £1 on European roulette: £100 staked, expected loss £2.70.
  • 100 spins at £1 on American roulette: £100 staked, expected loss £5.26.
  • 100 spins at £1 on the American top line: expected loss £7.89.

Those are averages; any session can land well above or below them. But choosing the single-zero wheel is the one decision that reliably cuts the cost of play. Our roulette app guide covers the rest of the game, and the house edge by game page puts roulette alongside other table games.

Playing European roulette on a small screen

The betting grid is the hardest part of roulette on a phone. Inside bets like splits and corners sit on narrow lines, so zooming or turning the phone sideways can help with accurate chip placement; see our guide to landscape vs portrait mode. Check the bet slip before the timer ends.

Live European tables stream video for the whole session, which uses more data than an RNG game. If your connection drops mid-round, our answer on what happens if your app crashes mid-game explains how unfinished bets are usually handled and where to check. A stable Wi-Fi connection helps for long live sessions.

UK rules that apply to European roulette in apps

  • Each game cycle in a non-slot casino game must last at least 5 seconds, since 17 January 2025.
  • Autoplay is banned for all online casino games, so every spin needs a deliberate bet.
  • Your net spend and the time you've played must be shown in real time.
  • The £5 and £2 online stake limits cover slots only, not roulette.
  • You must be verified as 18+ before depositing or playing, including in free-to-play versions.

Our page on game speed rules gives the detail and dates. If roulette starts to feel less like entertainment, set a deposit limit in your app or take a break.

Frequently asked questions

Do UK casino apps have European roulette?

European roulette is widely made for UK casinos, including Evolution's Live European Roulette and its European Auto Roulette. Whether a particular app carries it depends on the operator's lobby, which partners don't publish in full. The Coral and Ladbrokes app listings mention roulette, and PlayOJO's mentions table games. Search the app for 'European' or 'French' once signed in. Our list of best roulette apps compares the options.

How do I know if a roulette game is European?

Count the zeros. A European wheel has one green zero and 37 pockets; an American wheel adds a double zero for 38. On the betting grid, a single zero box means European or French, while a 00 box means American. The game's help screen should confirm the wheel type. If it doesn't, ask support before you bet. Our guide to European roulette on mobile has more.

Is European roulette better than American roulette?

On cost, yes. European roulette has a 2.70% house edge on every standard bet; American roulette has 5.26%, because the extra double zero isn't reflected in the payouts. At £1 a spin over 100 spins, that's an expected loss of £2.70 against £5.26. Results in any session vary, but the single-zero wheel is cheaper to play. See our roulette app guide for the full rules.

Is Lightning Roulette European roulette?

It uses a single-zero wheel, numbered 1 to 36 plus zero, so the wheel is European. The payouts differ, though: unstruck straight-up bets pay 29 to 1 instead of 35 to 1, to fund multipliers of 50× to 500× on one to five Lucky Numbers. UK operator pages list its RTP at 97.10% to 97.30%. Our page on which casino apps have Lightning Roulette covers availability.

Is French roulette the same as European roulette?

They share the same single-zero wheel and payouts. French roulette adds La Partage or En Prison on even-money bets, so if zero lands you lose only half your stake or have it held for the next spin. That cuts the edge on those bets to about 1.35% (La Partage). Other bets stay at 2.70%. If you mostly bet red or black, a French table is the cheaper choice. See the best roulette game on an app.

Is live European roulette fair on an app?

UK-licensed live roulette uses a physical wheel, and Gambling Commission rules say players mustn't be able to touch or interfere with the mechanism that chooses the result. RNG versions must be acceptably random and match the odds of a real wheel. Each spin is independent, so past numbers don't predict the next. Our page on live roulette on mobile explains how live tables work.

Can I play European roulette for free on an app?

Where an app offers a free-to-play or demo version of a table game, UK rules still require age verification, so you'll need a verified account first. Demo play is useful for learning the layout on a small screen before you stake anything. Our guide to demo mode on casino apps explains what's available and what's required.

What are the minimum bets on European roulette apps?

Each table sets its own limits, and they're shown in the game before you join. The £5 and £2 UK stake limits apply to slots only, so roulette isn't capped in the same way. Low minimums suit small budgets, but the cost per hour still depends on how many rounds you play and the 2.70% edge. Check the table limits in the help screen, and see our page on low stakes casino games.
