Can you win a jackpot on mobile?
Can you win a jackpot on mobile? Yes. A jackpot slot played in a licensed UK casino app is the same game, with the same jackpot rules, as on the operator's website, and a phone spin counts towards a shared pot just like a desktop spin. The chance of winning is small on every device, so budget for the cost of play, not the prize.
Key takeaways
- A phone spin has the same jackpot chance as a desktop spin on the same game version.
- Under RTS 9, jackpot odds rise with the amount you contribute, and winners must be told straight away.
- You can withdraw a jackpot in full: UK rules say you don't have to take winnings in instalments.
- Payout speed depends on the operator and the method; big card payouts can take longer.
- UK players pay no tax on gambling winnings.
- Win on a phone?
- Yes, same game as desktop
- Winner notice
- Immediately after the trigger (RTS 9B)
- Instalments
- Not required by UK rules
- Max slot stake
- £5 (25+), £2 (18–24)
- Tax on winnings
- None for UK players
Can you win a jackpot on mobile? Yes, on the same terms
Nothing in UK rules treats a phone differently from a laptop. The Gambling Commission licenses the operator and sets technical standards for the games, and those standards apply wherever you open the game. Our casino app questions hub covers many of the device myths that follow from this.
In practice the app is a window onto the operator's game servers. The slot's random number generator decides each result, and a network jackpot is a single pot fed by players on every device. A mobile player who triggers the jackpot feature is paid from the same pot as anyone else.
What a phone can't do is improve your chances. Spinning in the app, at a certain time, or after a long dry spell makes no difference to a random result. Our page on whether casino apps rig games explains the testing behind that.
How your jackpot chance is set on a mobile app
The Commission's RTS 9 standard (opens in a new tab) says “the chances of winning a jackpot should increase in correlation with the amount contributed”. In plain terms, a bigger stake on a progressive slot usually means a bigger contribution and a proportionally bigger chance. The device isn't part of that sum.
| Factor | Affects the chance? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phone, tablet or desktop | No | Same game and same pot on every device |
| Your stake | Often yes | RTS 9 links chance to contribution |
| Stake eligibility | Yes | Some games set a qualifying stake; ineligibility must be shown |
| Pot size | No | A big pot pays more if won but isn't more likely to drop |
| Time of day | No | RNG outcomes don't follow the clock |
| App or browser | No | Both reach the same game servers |
The stake side has a ceiling. Every jackpot slot is an online slot, so the slot stake limits cap you at £5 a spin if you're 25 or over and £2 if you're 18 to 24. Raising your stake to chase a better jackpot chance only raises what you lose per spin.
How big can a jackpot win be?
Network progressives have produced the largest online slot prizes. On 20 December 2023, Wheel of Wishes paid a WowPot! jackpot of €38,461,200.95, which iGaming Business reported (opens in a new tab) as the largest online slot jackpot win. The previous headline record was a €19.4 million Mega Moolah win in April 2021 by a player in Belgium from a €15 stake.
Those reports don't say which device either winner used, so they prove nothing about mobile in particular. They do show the scale a shared pot can reach. They're also extreme outliers: WowPot! says it paid over €225 million to more than 5.3 million players by January 2024, which works out at an average of about €42 per prize across all tiers.
Most jackpot slots in UK apps have much smaller prizes. Fixed jackpots are set as a multiple of your stake, and studio networks such as Jackpot King start their pots in the hundreds or thousands of pounds.
What happens after you win a jackpot on your phone
UK rules set out several steps of the process, and the operator's help pages cover the rest. The order is usually like this.
- The game tells you. RTS 9 says a winner should be notified immediately after the jackpot is triggered.
- The win is added to your balance, and the game's rules explain how and when the jackpot amount is credited.
- You request a withdrawal in the app's cashier. You can't be offered the option to cancel it and play the money back, because reverse withdrawals are banned.
- The operator reviews the withdrawal. As your age and identity were checked before you played, a business can't usually make fresh ID a condition of paying out if it could have asked earlier.
- The money is sent to your payment method, normally the one you deposited with.
- You receive it in full. The Commission's guidance says you don't have to withdraw in instalments.
Operators can still carry out checks the law requires at the point of withdrawal, such as anti-money-laundering checks on a large sum. The Commission's guide for players who can't withdraw winnings (opens in a new tab) explains your rights.
How fast jackpot withdrawals reach you from a casino app
Payout speed belongs to the operator and the payment method, not the device. Here's what our partners publish.
| App | Published timing | Fees |
|---|---|---|
| Coral | Review team approval, then instantly to five banking days by method; Visa Fast Funds typically up to 4 hours after approval, slower for payouts over £2,000 | None charged |
| Ladbrokes | Same as Coral; Fast Bank Transfer 2–4 business days once approved | None charged |
| PlayOJO | Says it processes most payments within a few hours | Not published |
The Coral and Ladbrokes help pages both flag that payouts over £2,000 are slower by Visa Fast Funds, which matters for a jackpot. For method-by-method detail, see Coral withdrawals, Ladbrokes withdrawals and PlayOJO withdrawals.
What if your signal drops during a jackpot spin?
Mobile connections do drop. The result of an online slot spin comes from the game's RNG on the server, not from your handset, and each game's rules explain how interrupted games are handled. Read that part of the help screen for any jackpot game you play.
If a game freezes mid-feature, reopen the app, check your transaction history and contact live chat if the balance looks wrong. Our guide to what happens if you lose signal during a spin goes through this step by step, and casino app data usage covers connection quality.
Jackpot dreams versus the real cost of mobile play
A jackpot is the rare exception. The usual outcome of slot play is a steady loss at the rate set by the game's RTP. At 20p a spin and a 2.5-second minimum spin time, an hour of non-stop play can be up to 1,440 spins, or £288 staked. On a slot returning 96%, the expected cost is £288 × 4% = £11.52 an hour.
Many jackpot slots hold back more for the pot. Mega Moolah's base game RTP is 88.12% before the jackpot contribution, so the same hour costs £288 × 11.88% = £34.21 in base-game terms. Use the deposit limit and reality check tools to keep that cost where you want it.
Mobile casino apps with a welcome offer for slot players
If you're choosing an app for slot play, these are our three partner offers. They give free spins on selected slots and aren't tied to any jackpot, so don't assume a spin can trigger one. 18+ and full terms apply.
- Coral Casino app: for new players. Deposit (some payment types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots for 100 free spins on selected games at 10p each. Accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days; free spin winnings carry no wagering. Deposits by Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don't count. The offer runs from 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027.
- Ladbrokes Casino app: for new customers. Deposit and spend £10+ on slots, then get 50 free spins daily for the first 10 days, up to 500, at 10p each on selected games. Claim before 23:59 each day; spins are valid for 7 days with no wagering. Ladbrokes excludes deposits by prepaid card, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers.

Frequently asked questions
Are jackpot odds worse on a casino app than on desktop?
No. The app and the website load the same game from the same servers, and a network jackpot is a single pot shared across devices. What can differ is the game version an operator chooses, which sets its RTP, and that applies on desktop too. Check the game's information screen in the app. Our page on whether games on apps match desktop covers this in more detail.
Will a casino pay out a big jackpot won on an app?
A licensed UK operator must pay winnings you're entitled to under the game rules and its terms. The Commission's guidance says you can withdraw without unreasonable delay and don't have to accept instalments. Checks the law requires, such as anti-money-laundering checks, can still happen. If there's a dispute, complain to the operator first and then to an ADR provider. See do casino apps pay out for more.
Can I win a jackpot with a small stake on my phone?
Often yes, but your chance is usually smaller. RTS 9 says jackpot chances should rise in line with the amount contributed, so a 10p spin usually contributes and qualifies less than a £1 spin. Some games also set a minimum stake for jackpot eligibility, which the game must make clear. Fixed jackpots are often a multiple of the stake, so they shrink at low stakes too. Our low stakes games guide explains the trade-offs.
Do I pay tax on a jackpot won on my phone?
No. Players in the UK don't pay tax on gambling winnings, and the device you won on makes no difference. Operators pay remote gaming duty on their profits instead, which rose from 21% to 40% on 1 April 2026. Any interest you later earn on the money may be taxable in the usual way. See tax on casino app winnings for the detail.
How long does a jackpot withdrawal take from a casino app?
It depends on the operator and method. Coral and Ladbrokes say withdrawals are first approved by a review team, then take from instantly to five banking days depending on the method. Visa Fast Funds typically arrives within four hours of approval, but payouts over £2,000 are slower. PlayOJO says it processes most payments within a few hours. Our guide on how long casino app withdrawals take compares methods.
Can I cancel a jackpot withdrawal and keep playing?
No. Since 31 October 2021, UK operators must not give you the option to reverse a withdrawal request, and once you've asked for a payout they shouldn't offer to put the money back into play. The rule is there to stop winnings being gambled away while a withdrawal is pending. See can I cancel a withdrawal in a casino app for how this shows up in apps.
Is there a best time to play for a jackpot on mobile?
No. Every spin's result comes from a random number generator, and RNG outcomes don't change with the time of day, the size of the pot or how long since the last win. Under RTS 9 the only thing linked to your chance is how much you contribute. Pick a session length and budget you're comfortable with, and use a reality check to keep track of time.
