What is Jackpot King?

What is Jackpot King? It's a progressive jackpot network from Blueprint Gaming that links many of the studio's slots to the same three shared pots. Landing enough Jackpot King symbols starts a bonus where you collect crowns, and enough crowns lead to the Wheel King, which awards a multiplier or one of the progressive jackpots.

Key takeaways

  • Jackpot King links many Blueprint slots to three shared progressive pots.
  • Five or six Jackpot King symbols start the bonus; 15 or more crowns reach the Wheel King.
  • OLBG lists starting values of £50,000, £5,000 and £500 for the three pots.
  • Jackpot King editions can return less than standard editions of the same slot.
  • The pots are the same in an app as on a website.

What is Jackpot King? A one-minute answer

Jackpot King is Blueprint Gaming's shared jackpot system. A wide range of Blueprint titles are linked to one jackpot pool, so spins across all the linked games feed the same prizes. You'll usually spot the games by “Jackpot King” in the title or on the game tile.

Blueprint is based in Newark in the UK, has been fully owned by Merkur Group (formerly Gauselmann Group) since 2012, and is regulated by the Gambling Commission. It's best known for slots such as Fishin' Frenzy, Eye of Horus and King Kong Cash, and it also makes licensed Megaways games.

How the Jackpot King feature works, step by step

OLBG's Jackpot King guide (opens in a new tab) describes the feature in stages. Here's the sequence in our own words.

  1. On a base-game spin, five or six Jackpot King symbols land anywhere on the reels. No payline is needed.
  2. That starts the Jackpot King bonus, a separate round where you collect crowns.
  3. If you collect 15 or more crowns, you move on to the Wheel King.
  4. The Wheel King spins and awards either a win multiplier or one of the three progressive jackpots.

Some games also describe a random trigger. Our Genie Jackpots review notes that the Jackpot King feature in that game can be triggered at random. Read the help screen of the game you're playing, because each one sets out its own route in.

Getting into the bonus doesn't mean a jackpot is coming. The Wheel King can award a multiplier rather than a pot, and most bonus rounds end without reaching it.

The three Jackpot King pots and their starting values

Jackpot King pots (starting values and caps as listed by OLBG)
PotStarting valueCap
Jackpot King£50,000No cap
Regal£5,000£35,000
Royal£500£3,500

The Regal and Royal caps come from Jackpot King Deluxe, launched in September 2018. CasinoBeats reported (opens in a new tab) that Deluxe made those two pots “must be won” before reaching £3,500 and £35,000, with the main pot unchanged. The starting values come from OLBG rather than those launch reports.

Under the Commission's RTS 9 standard (opens in a new tab), the game's rules must state how a jackpot is funded and its seed and ceiling values before you play. Check those on the help screen, since values can change after a review is written.

Jackpot King timeline: from 2016 to Prize Lines

Key dates in Jackpot King's history
DateWhat happened
September 2016First Jackpot King titles: Genie Jackpots, Cop the Lot and Fruitinator (per OLBG)
September 2018Jackpot King Deluxe adds must-be-won caps to the Royal and Regal pots
2021Jackpot King Prize Lines launched, the first time Jackpot King became a game in its own right

One small wrinkle: game listings give Genie Jackpots' original release as December 2015, while OLBG names it among the first Jackpot King titles in September 2016. Both can be true if the game was linked to the network after its first release.

What Jackpot King costs you in RTP terms

Access to the shared pots isn't free. A slice of each stake funds them, so a Jackpot King edition can return less in the regular game. King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas shows it clearly: 96% in its standard edition and 94.99% in the Jackpot King edition.

At 50p a spin, 400 spins means £200 staked. The expected cost is £200 × 4% = £8.00 in the standard edition and £200 × 5.01% = £10.02 in the Jackpot King edition. That extra £2.02 buys a small chance at a shared pot. Whether that's worth it is your call, but know you're paying it. Our house edge guide explains the sum.

Playing Jackpot King on mobile

The pots are shared across the network, so they're the same figure in an app as on desktop. What differs on a phone is only the screen size, and our guide to landscape and portrait mode covers how slots generally adapt to orientation.

UK slot rules apply in full. Every spin takes at least 2.5 seconds, there's no autoplay, and the slot stake limits cap stakes at £5, or £2 for 18 to 24-year-olds. Before you play, set a deposit limit in your account settings and decide how long the session will last.

Frequently asked questions

Who makes Jackpot King?

Blueprint Gaming, a UK studio based in Newark and owned by Merkur Group since 2012. Jackpot King is Blueprint's own network, linking many of its titles to shared pots. Other studios run their own networks, such as Games Global with Mega Moolah and WowPot!, and those are separate pots. Our Blueprint Gaming slots page covers the studio's best-known games and mechanics.

How do you trigger Jackpot King?

In most Jackpot King games, five or six Jackpot King symbols anywhere on a base-game spin start the bonus, with no payline needed. In the bonus you collect crowns, and 15 or more take you to the Wheel King, which awards a multiplier or one of three jackpots. Some games, such as Genie Jackpots, describe a random trigger too. The game's help screen has the exact rules. See our Genie Jackpots review for one example.

How much are the Jackpot King jackpots?

OLBG lists starting values of £50,000 for the Jackpot King pot, which has no cap, £5,000 for Regal, capped at £35,000, and £500 for Royal, capped at £3,500. The live values change with play and reset to their seed after a win, and RTS 9 requires eligible players to be able to see current values. Check the game in the app for today's figures. Our progressive jackpot glossary entry explains seeds and caps.

Does “must be won” mean a Jackpot King pot is due?

No. The cap means the Royal and Regal pots must pay before they pass £3,500 and £35,000, but it doesn't tell you when, or to whom. Spins come from a random number generator, and your chance is linked to what you contribute, not to how close a pot is to its cap. Chasing a pot near its cap is still chasing. Our RNG explainer covers why patterns don't help.

Is Jackpot King worse value than the normal version?

The regular game often returns a little less. King Kong Cash Even Bigger Bananas lists 96% RTP in its standard edition and 94.99% in its Jackpot King edition, so £100 of spins costs £4.00 against £5.01 in expected terms. The difference funds the shared pots. If you won't miss the jackpot chance, the standard edition costs less. See is RTP lower on casino apps for how to check versions.

Can I play Jackpot King on my phone?

Yes, if the app's lobby carries Jackpot King games. They're the same games as on the website, linked to the same pots, and UK slot rules apply in full: a 2.5-second minimum spin, no autoplay and a £5 or £2 stake limit. None of our partners' store listings names Jackpot King, so search the lobby. Our jackpot slots on mobile guide covers how jackpot features play on a small screen.

What is Jackpot King Prize Lines?

It's a 2021 Blueprint release that, according to Intergame, made Jackpot King into a game in its own right for the first time, rather than a feature attached to other slots. Intergame's report on Prize Lines (opens in a new tab) has the launch details. As with any Jackpot King title, check the RTP and jackpot rules in the app before you play, and see our Jackpot King glossary entry.
