Live baccarat on mobile

Live baccarat on mobile puts a real dealer, a real shoe of cards and a studio camera on your phone, with Banker, Player and Tie buttons laid over the video. The odds match animated baccarat, but table type matters: a Speed table deals almost twice as many hands an hour as a standard one, and fee-based tables add a 20% charge to your stake.

Key takeaways

  • Live baccarat is filmed in a studio with physical cards; the app reads the result and settles your bet.
  • Evolution's standard baccarat round takes about 48 seconds; Speed Baccarat takes about 27.
  • Banker carries a 1.06% edge and Player 1.24% with eight decks, live or animated.
  • Lightning and Peek Baccarat charge a 20% fee on top of the bet; neither has a published RTP on Evolution's pages.
  • UK rules ban autoplay at live tables and stop you playing several tables at once.

How live baccarat on mobile works

A live baccarat table is a studio set with a dealer, a card shoe and several cameras. The video streams to your phone, and the app lays a betting panel over it. According to Wikipedia's account of live casino, optical character recognition reads the physical cards and turns them into data, so the software can settle bets the moment a hand ends.

Evolution, the biggest live studio supplier in UK apps, says players connect by phone or computer and use the game software to bet, make decisions and chat with the dealer. Pragmatic Play says its studios use multiple 4K cameras and employ teams of shufflers to keep card games running. The result is a real game at a real pace, rather than an animation.

The rules are the same Punto Banco you'd play in an animated game. If you need a refresher on card values and third-card rules, read our baccarat app guide first. For other games on phones, see the mobile casino games hub.

A live baccarat round on your phone, step by step

The order of events is the same at nearly every table. The thing to watch on a phone is the betting timer, because the dealer won't wait for a slow tap.

  1. Open your app's live casino lobby and choose a baccarat table. Check the stake limits and the table type (standard, Speed, Squeeze, No Commission or a multiplier game).
  2. Wait for the betting window. A countdown shows how long is left.
  3. Choose a chip and tap Banker, Player or Tie, plus any side bet you've decided to pay for. Check the total.
  4. Betting closes. The dealer draws two cards for each hand from the shoe and applies the third-card rules.
  5. The result appears on screen and winnings are added to your balance; Banker and Player bets are returned on a tie.
  6. The next window opens. Your net spend and session time stay on screen throughout, as UK rules require.

A re-bet button is common at live tables, and the Gambling Commission has said it doesn't count as autoplay because you still trigger each round. Autoplay itself is banned.

Baccarat Squeeze on a phone screen

In a squeeze game the cards aren't simply flipped: they are revealed slowly, on camera, to build the moment. Evolution's Live Baccarat Squeeze deals cards face down and shows the dealer's squeeze in camera close-ups. For the hand with the lower total wager, the dealer reveals the cards quickly, so the drama is saved for the hand most players are backing.

Evolution announced the table in a release dated 3 December 2015, describing baccarat as the most popular table game in Macau's land-based casinos. On a phone, the close-ups suit the small screen better than a wide shot of the whole table. The trade-off is time: rounds are slower, so you play fewer hands an hour, which lowers your expected hourly loss at the same stake.

Lightning and Peek Baccarat: what a 20% fee does to your stake

Two Evolution formats charge a fee on top of the bet. Lightning Baccarat adds a 20% Lightning Fee to each player's total bet and, in return, draws one to five Lightning Cards each round with 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 8x multipliers on winning hands that contain them. Peek Baccarat charges 20% on Player or Banker bets to let you see one to four cards and then double or triple your bet before the rest are revealed.

In pounds, a £10 bet at a Lightning table costs £12 from your balance. That fee goes into the maths that pays for the multipliers, and Evolution's pages don't publish a return to player for either game. Before you play, open the game's help screen, where UK rules require the return or likelihood of winning to be shown, and compare it with the standard table's figures.

What live baccarat costs per hour on mobile

Expected loss = stake × house edge × hands. Using Evolution's round times, a standard table deals about 75 hands an hour (3,600 seconds ÷ 48) and Speed Baccarat about 133 (3,600 ÷ 27). Here is a £5 stake on each bet.

Expected hourly loss at £5 a hand, eight-deck odds
BetHouse edgeStandard table (about 75 hands)Speed table (about 133 hands)
Banker1.06%£3.98£7.07
Player1.24%£4.65£8.27
Tie at 8 to 114.36%£53.85£95.73

Real tables don't run at a perfect pace, so treat these as illustrations. Two lessons stand out: the Tie bet costs over 13 times the Banker bet, and a faster table nearly doubles the bill at the same stake. Over time, losses are the likely result whichever you choose. A deposit limit or a reality check keeps a fast table from running away with your evening.

Live baccarat odds: the same maths with a real shoe

Live baccarat usually uses eight decks, and with eight decks the Banker hand wins 45.86% of coups, Player 44.62% and a tie 9.52%. Banker wins pay 19 to 20 in the classic game, Player wins pay even money and Tie usually pays 8 to 1, though some tables pay 9 to 1. Wizard of Odds puts the edges at 1.06% on Banker, 1.24% on Player and 14.36% on an 8 to 1 Tie.

Side bets at live tables follow the same pattern as in animated games: they pay big multiples and cost more. Either Pair at 5 to 1, for example, carries an edge of about 13.71% with eight decks. Our house edge by game page shows how baccarat compares with roulette and blackjack.

Live Dragon Tiger: baccarat's quicker cousin

Dragon Tiger often sits in the live baccarat section. Each side gets one card, ranked from ace (low) to king (high), and the higher card wins. Under the rules Wizard of Odds analyses, Dragon and Tiger bets lose half on a tie, giving a 3.73% house edge with eight decks, which is about three and a half times the Banker bet in baccarat.

Evolution's version pays 11 to 1 on a Tie and 50 to 1 on a Suited Tie. With eight decks, an 11 to 1 Tie carries a 10.36% edge and a 50 to 1 Suited Tie 13.98%. Simple and fast, yes; cheap, no. Wizard of Odds' Dragon Tiger page (opens in a new tab) lists the edges at other payouts.

Streaming live baccarat on mobile data or Wi-Fi

Live baccarat is continuous video, often from several cameras, so it uses more data and battery than an animated table. Pragmatic Play says its in-house streaming can reach latency as low as 1.5 to 2 seconds in good conditions; on a weak signal you'll see the picture lag behind the timer.

  • Wi-Fi is the safer choice for long sessions, especially on a capped plan. See live casino data usage for the general picture.
  • Squeeze tables use close-ups and replays, so they're the least forgiving of a poor connection.
  • If the stream drops, bets accepted before betting closed are settled on the actual result. Check your game history once you're back, and read what happens to a bet if your app crashes.
  • Keep your phone charged; long live sessions drain batteries faster than most games.

UK rules for live baccarat in casino apps

The Gambling Commission extended several slot-era protections to all online casino games, live tables included, from 17 January 2025. It said it saw no convincing reason to exclude live casino from the autoplay ban. Its announcement of the new rules (opens in a new tab) sets out the package.

  • No autoplay: you start every round. A re-bet button is permitted.
  • At least 5 seconds between the start of one game cycle and the next. Live rounds already take far longer.
  • No playing several tables or games at the same time.
  • Net spend and time spent shown in real time during your session.
  • The £5 and £2 stake limits are for online slots only and don't apply to baccarat; table limits apply instead.

Your age and identity must be verified before you can deposit, and credit cards can't be used to gamble in Great Britain. Our guide to game speed rules on mobile explains how the timing rules work.

Live baccarat and welcome offers

Offers and live baccarat don't mix well. Free spins are for slots, and deposit bonuses typically exclude live casino or count it at a lower rate towards wagering, so a welcome offer shouldn't be the reason you pick an app for live tables. Always read the terms. 18+, terms apply.

  • Casumo: 50% up to £100 on a first deposit of £20 or more, for new customers who opt in. Wagering is 10x the bonus within 7 days, with a £5 maximum bet while the bonus is active; game, play and payment restrictions apply.
  • 10bet: 100% up to £25 for new UK customers who select the casino welcome bonus at sign-up and make a first deposit within 7 days. Wager the bonus 10x on slots within 3 days; bonus winnings capped at £1,000; Skrill and Neteller deposits excluded.
  • Coral Casino: deposit and bet £10 or more on slots to get 100 free spins at 10p each on selected games, for new players. Spins must be accepted within 48 hours and used within 7 days; free-spin winnings have no wagering; some payment methods don't qualify.

Frequently asked questions

Can you play live baccarat on a phone?

Yes. Live baccarat streams to phones through licensed casino apps and mobile sites, with a betting panel over the video. You'll need a verified account and a steady connection, ideally Wi-Fi for long sessions. Check the app's live lobby, because table ranges vary by operator. Our live casino on mobile data guide explains connection tips, and the best live casino apps list compares UK options.

Is live baccarat rigged?

No, not at a UK-licensed casino. Live baccarat uses real cards dealt from a shoe in a studio, with the result read by software and settled automatically. Gambling Commission standards say the physical items that decide a result should not be altered or touched by players. The casino's profit comes from the house edge, 1.06% on Banker and 1.24% on Player. See are live dealers on apps real people for more.

How fast is Speed Baccarat?

Evolution says a Speed Baccarat round takes about 27 seconds, against about 48 seconds for its standard baccarat, and the cards are dealt face up. That works out at roughly 133 hands an hour instead of about 75. The odds per hand don't change, but your expected hourly loss nearly doubles at the same stake. Our Speed Baccarat page covers the game in detail.

What is the 20% fee in Lightning Baccarat?

It's an extra charge Evolution adds to each player's total bet at its Lightning Baccarat tables. In return, one to five Lightning Cards are drawn each round with 2x to 8x multipliers that boost winning hands containing them. A £10 bet costs £12 in total. Evolution's pages don't publish a return to player, so check the game's help screen before playing. Read about multipliers for the general idea.

What is Baccarat Squeeze?

It's a live baccarat format where cards are dealt face down and revealed slowly by the dealer, with close-up camera shots. Evolution says its version uses more than 15 cameras, and that the dealer reveals the hand with the lower total wager quickly. The odds are the same as standard baccarat, but rounds are slower. Compare formats on our baccarat app guide.

Does live baccarat use a lot of data?

It uses more than animated games, because it's a continuous video stream, often from several cameras. Squeeze tables with close-ups and replays are the heaviest. Use Wi-Fi where possible, close other streaming apps and keep an eye on your data allowance if you play on 4G or 5G. Our guide to live casino data usage and the question does live casino work on 4G have more detail.

Can I play two live baccarat tables at once in a UK app?

No. Since 17 January 2025, Gambling Commission rules stop online casino products offering play on several games at the same time, and that includes live tables. You also have to start each round yourself, because autoplay is banned, although a re-bet button is allowed. These rules help keep spending visible and manageable. Read can I play two casino games at once on mobile for the detail.

Which live baccarat bet is cheapest?

Banker in classic commission baccarat, at a 1.06% house edge with eight decks. Player is next at 1.24%. No-commission tables that pay half on a Banker 6 raise the Banker edge to about 1.46%, and the Tie bet at 8 to 1 costs 14.36%. Fee-based tables such as Lightning and Peek add a 20% charge. Our house edge by game page compares baccarat with other games.
