Casino app not working: find the cause
If your casino app is not working, the fault almost always sits in one of five places: the app, your phone, your connection, your location or your account. This guide helps you pin down which one in a couple of minutes, then walks you through the fix on iPhone and Android.
Key takeaways
- Most faults are fixed by updating the app and the phone’s software, then restarting.
- Coral and Ladbrokes apps need iOS 18.0 or later; PlayOJO and Casumo need iOS 15.0 or later.
- UK casino apps are geo-restricted, so they can stop working abroad or behind a VPN.
- A time-out, self-exclusion or bank gambling block can look like a fault but is working as designed.
- Missing autoplay or turbo spins is a UK rule, not a bug.
- Most common fix
- Update app and phone software, then restart
- Coral and Ladbrokes iPhone apps
- iOS 18.0 or later
- PlayOJO and Casumo iPhone apps
- iOS 15.0 or later
- 10bet iPhone app
- iOS 16.0 or later
- Credit cards
- Banned for gambling in Great Britain since 14 April 2020
Casino app not working? Start with this two-minute check
Before you change any settings, spend two minutes ruling out the simple causes. Most cases of a casino app not working come down to an out-of-date app, a weak signal or a phone that has been running for days without a restart.
- Close the casino app fully, not just to the background, and open it again.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if the problem follows the connection.
- Open the App Store or Google Play and install any waiting update for the casino app.
- Check that your phone’s own software is up to date, then restart the phone.
- Try logging in on the operator’s mobile website in your browser. If the site works, the fault is on the app or phone side; if it doesn’t, the issue is more likely your account, your location or the operator.
That last step is the most useful test on this page. It splits every problem into two groups, and the rest of this guide follows that split. If you need a reminder of how the app and site relate, see whether the casino app is the same as the website.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
Different faults show up in different ways. Use the table to jump to the guide that deals with your exact symptom in more depth, all within our casino app guides section.
| What you see | Most likely cause | Where to go next |
|---|---|---|
| Icon taps do nothing, or the app closes at once | Outdated app or OS, low storage, a screen-time limit | Casino app won’t open |
| App opens, then shuts down mid-game | Memory, an old app version, a weak connection | Casino app keeps crashing |
| Password rejected or account locked | Wrong details, too many attempts, an active time-out | Casino app login problems |
| Asked for documents, or checks failed | Details that don’t match records | Casino app verification failed |
| Deposit refused | Card type, bank block, method limit | Casino app payment declined |
| Cash-out stuck | Review, verification or bank processing | Casino app withdrawal pending |
| Message about your location | You’re outside Great Britain or using a VPN | See the location section below |
Casino app not working on iPhone or Android: phone and app causes
Casino apps are updated often, and older versions can stop talking to the operator’s systems properly. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre advises people to install app and device updates as soon as they’re available (opens in a new tab) and to switch on automatic updates. That advice fixes a large share of app faults as well as security gaps.
The bigger catch is your phone’s operating system. The App Store listings for the Coral Casino and Ladbrokes Casino apps say both need iOS 18.0 or later. PlayOJO and Casumo list iOS 15.0 or later, and 10bet lists iOS 16.0 or later. An iPhone that can’t install iOS 18 won’t get current versions of the two Entain apps, so read our guide to casino apps on older phones if that’s you.
Google Play listings no longer show a minimum Android version on the web page; the store checks compatibility on your own device instead. If Play says the app isn’t compatible, that’s the reason. Our pages on casino apps on iPhone and casino apps on Android phones cover each platform in more detail, and how to update a casino app has the update steps.
Storage matters too. The Coral and Ladbrokes iPhone apps are each just over 101 MB and 10bet’s is 112.3 MB, before any cached game files. A phone with almost no free space can struggle to update or run them.
Connection problems: Wi-Fi, mobile data and live games
A casino app needs a stable connection for every spin and hand, because results come from the operator’s systems rather than your phone. When the signal drops, you may see spinning loaders, a game that freezes, or a prompt to reconnect.
Live dealer tables and game shows stream video, so they’re the first thing to suffer on a weak signal. If slots load but live games stutter, the connection is the likely cause. For what to expect, see playing live casino on mobile data.
- Move closer to your router, or switch to 4G or 5G if your Wi-Fi is crowded.
- Turn Aeroplane Mode on and off to force a fresh mobile connection.
- Avoid gambling on shared hotspots in cafés and stations; see public Wi-Fi and casino apps for why.
- If one game freezes, close it and check your game history before playing again.
Casino app not working abroad or on a VPN
UK casino apps are built to work only where the operator holds a licence. Apple’s App Review Guidelines (opens in a new tab) (guideline 5.3.4) say real-money gaming apps must have the right licensing where they’re used and must be geo-restricted to those locations. Google Play’s policy says the same thing in its own words: apps must block access from areas the licence doesn’t cover.
So if you open a British casino app on holiday, it may load but refuse to let you play, or show a location message. That isn’t a fault. Read using a casino app abroad for the details.
A VPN can trigger the same block at home, because it can make your connection appear to come from another country. Switch the VPN off before opening the app, and see casino apps and VPNs for why using one to get around location checks is a bad idea and can breach an operator’s terms.
Account blocks that look like a broken casino app
Sometimes the app is fine and something you set up earlier is doing its job. These blocks are there to protect you, so the answer is to recognise them, not to work around them.
- A time-out or self-exclusion on your account stops you logging in or playing until it ends. See self-exclusion from casino apps.
- GAMSTOP blocks you from all online gambling companies licensed in Great Britain for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.
- Android Digital Wellbeing timers: Google says that when your time runs out, the app closes and its icon dims until the timer resets at midnight. See blocking casino apps with Digital Wellbeing.
- iPhone Screen Time restrictions can stop apps installing or opening.
- Bank gambling blocks stop deposits even when the app works perfectly. The banks that offer them are listed in gambling blocks on banking apps.
If one of these is in place and you feel tempted to remove it, that’s a good moment to talk to someone. The National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133, run by GamCare, is free and open 24/7, and our gambling help and support page lists other options.
Features that seem missing are often UK rules
Players coming back after a few years sometimes report a casino app not working because a feature has gone. In most cases, a Gambling Commission rule removed it. The table sets out the main ones.
| What you notice | The rule | In force since |
|---|---|---|
| No autoplay on slots | Autoplay banned for online slots | 31 October 2021 |
| No turbo or quick spin | Turbo, quick spin and slam stop not allowed | 31 October 2021 |
| Slots won’t spin faster than every 2.5 seconds | Minimum 2.5 seconds per slot spin | 31 October 2021 |
| No autoplay on roulette or other games | Autoplay banned for all online casino games | 17 January 2025 |
| Table games pause between rounds | At least 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino games | 17 January 2025 |
| Can’t open two games at once | Playing several casino games at the same time not allowed | 17 January 2025 |
| Slot stake capped at £5 or £2 | £5 per spin (25 and over), £2 (18–24) | 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025 |
None of these is a fault, and no setting will bring them back. Our guides on why there is no autoplay on UK casino apps and slot stake limits on mobile explain each rule in full.
Deposits and withdrawals that won’t go through
Payment problems feel like an app failure but usually have a specific cause. Credit cards can’t be used to gamble in Great Britain, including through e-wallets funded by a credit card, so a credit card deposit will be refused. See the credit card ban for the detail.
Operators also set their own limits. Coral’s and Ladbrokes’ help centres say UK customers can have up to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days, and each deposit is capped at £2,000. A fourth card added within that window may simply be rejected.
Withdrawals can’t be cancelled once requested; the Commission’s technical standards ban reverse withdrawals. Coral and Ladbrokes say a withdrawal is approved by a review team first, then takes from instantly to five banking days depending on the method. If yours is still waiting, read casino app withdrawal pending.
Contacting support when the casino app still won’t work
If the quick checks haven’t helped, contact the operator. A clear message gets a faster answer, so include the details below.
- Your username or registered email address (never your password).
- Your phone model and its software version.
- The app version, which you’ll usually find in the app’s settings or its store listing.
- Exactly what happens, the time it happened and the full error message.
- What you’ve already tried, such as reinstalling or switching networks.
Channels differ by brand. Coral lists email at help@coral.co.uk, and its live chat is reported to run 24/7. PlayOJO offers live chat after login plus email. 10bet publishes a UK phone line, 0808 175 0550, open 08:00–23:00 daily. Our guide to live chat in casino apps and the Coral customer support page go further.
If the operator can’t fix it
Most app problems are technical and get sorted quickly. If the issue affects your money, such as a balance that looks wrong after a game froze, raise a formal complaint with the operator first. UK-licensed operators must have a complaints process and give you access to an independent dispute service.
The Gambling Commission explains the route in its guide to how to complain about a gambling business (opens in a new tab). Our pages on how to complain about a casino app and what ADR means for casino app players cover each step.
Casino apps with a welcome offer if you want to switch
Switching apps won’t fix a phone that’s out of date or a location block, so work through the checks above first. If you’ve decided your current app isn’t worth the trouble, these are the three partner apps closest to this guide, each a standalone casino app listed on the App Store and Google Play.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my casino app not working today?
The most common reason is an app or phone update that hasn’t been installed yet. Check the App Store or Google Play for an update, restart your phone and try a different connection. If the operator’s mobile website also fails, the problem is likely your account, your location or the operator’s own systems rather than your phone. Our casino app won’t open guide covers launch faults in more depth.
Why does my casino app not work abroad?
UK casino apps must be geo-restricted to the places where the operator is licensed. Apple and Google both require real-money gambling apps to block use from areas their licence doesn’t cover, so a British app may refuse play when you’re overseas. It should work again once you’re back in Great Britain. See can I use a casino app abroad for more.
Is my casino app broken if autoplay has disappeared?
No, autoplay is banned under UK rules rather than broken. It has been banned on online slots since 31 October 2021 and on all online casino games since 17 January 2025. Turbo and quick-spin features are banned too, and slots must take at least 2.5 seconds per spin. No setting brings these back. Read our autoplay ban page for the full background.
Why won’t the Coral or Ladbrokes app install on my iPhone?
Both apps need iOS 18.0 or later, according to their App Store listings. If your iPhone can’t update to iOS 18, the App Store won’t offer current versions of either app. You can still use the operator’s mobile website in a browser. Our guide to which iOS version casino apps need compares every partner app’s requirement.
Can a VPN stop a casino app working?
Yes, a VPN can stop a UK casino app working because it can make your connection look as if it comes from another country. Licensed apps must block play from outside their licensed area, so the app may refuse to load games. Switch the VPN off before opening the app. Our page on using a VPN with a casino app explains the risks.
Why is my casino app icon greyed out on Android?
A greyed-out icon usually means a Digital Wellbeing app timer has run out. Google says that when the time allowance ends, the app closes and its icon dims, and timers reset at midnight. Focus mode can also pause chosen apps. If you set the timer to manage your play, it’s doing its job. See Digital Wellbeing for how it works.
What should I do if a game froze while I had money on it?
Close the game, reopen the app and check your game or transaction history before placing another bet. The result is recorded by the operator’s systems, so the history should show what happened. If your balance looks wrong, contact support with the time and game name. Our guide on what happens to a bet if your app crashes explains the process.
Why is my deposit not working in the casino app?
Deposits usually fail because of the payment method rather than the app. Credit cards are banned for gambling in Great Britain, many banks offer gambling blocks, and Coral and Ladbrokes limit UK customers to three active payment methods in a rolling 30 days. Try a debit card in your own name. Our payment declined guide lists every common cause.
Who do I contact if my casino app still isn’t working?
Contact the operator’s customer support with your phone model, app version and the exact error message. Coral offers email and live chat, PlayOJO offers live chat after login and email, and 10bet publishes a UK phone line open 08:00–23:00. If a money issue isn’t resolved, use the formal complaints process. See how to complain about a casino app.
