Playtech slots on mobile

Playtech slots on mobile are best known for the Age of the Gods jackpot family, and they run in UK casino apps through the browser-based game engine rather than as separate downloads. This guide covers who Playtech is, the RTP and volatility of its main titles, what they cost per hour in pounds and how to find them on your phone.

Key takeaways

  • Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, and is listed on the London Stock Exchange (PTEC).
  • Age of the Gods titles quote an RTP that includes the jackpot contribution, so the base game pays back a little less.
  • Published RTPs across the Playtech games below run from 94.22% (Jackpot Giant) to 97.06% (Halloween Fortune).
  • Playtech also owns Quickspin, which it bought in 2016.
  • Whether a partner app carries a Playtech game is not published: check the game lobby.

Playtech slots on mobile: the short answer

Yes, Playtech slots work on phones. Its games load inside the casino's own app or mobile site, so you never install a separate Playtech app. What you get is the same game maths as on a laptop, squeezed onto a smaller screen.

The studio stands out for two things: linked jackpots, led by Age of the Gods, and a long history as a supplier of casino platforms and live dealer tables. Its slot catalogue mixes those jackpot games with simpler five-reel titles such as Great Blue and Halloween Fortune.

This page sits in our slot providers hub, alongside guides to its own subsidiary Quickspin and rival studios. Remember that every slot here is gambling that costs money over time: the RTP figures below describe long-run averages, not what happens in one session.

Who Playtech is: from Estonia to the London Stock Exchange

Playtech was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi. Its headquarters are now in Douglas on the Isle of Man. The company floated on London's AIM market in 2006 and its shares now trade on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC.

Unlike studios that only make slots, Playtech also builds the systems casinos run on. Its public profile lists three strands: the Age of the Gods jackpots, live casino and casino platforms. You can read the company's own overview on Playtech's website (opens in a new tab).

That mix matters on mobile. A supplier that also runs platforms tends to build its games for many casino brands at once, which is why the same Playtech title can turn up in very different apps. Each casino still picks which titles to list, though, and which RTP version to offer.

Playtech slots on mobile: RTP, volatility and max win

The table lists Playtech games with verified specifications. Where a figure is not published, we say so rather than guess. Several games exist in more than one RTP version, so treat the figure as the version the developer lists and confirm it in the game's help screen.

Age of the Gods: how Playtech's jackpot slots work

In Age of the Gods, three or more scatters start a pick-and-match game on a wall of coins. Matching three gods picks one of four nine-spin free spins features: Athena adds a 2x to 5x multiplier on a spin, Zeus builds a multiplier from 1x to 3x over the round, Poseidon turns symbols into extra wilds and Hercules places a stacked wild on reel 3.

After each feature you return to the coin wall until the Hades icon appears. Separately, four progressive jackpots can trigger at random on any spin and lead to a match-three jackpot game.

Why the RTP includes the jackpot contribution

Part of every stake feeds the linked jackpots. The 95.02% figure for Age of the Gods counts that slice, so the share returned through ordinary wins and features is lower than the headline. A jackpot is rare by design, which means most players will see less than the full figure come back in practice.

God of Storms follows the same idea with a 96.14% RTP including the jackpot contribution. Its main feature is the Wild Wind Respins, with a moving ship wild, on top of the four-tier jackpot. Our jackpot slots guide explains how linked prize pools are funded.

A progressive jackpot does not make a game better value. It moves part of the return into a rare top prize, so the everyday experience is usually leaner.

Signature mechanics in Playtech mobile slots

Outside the jackpot series, Playtech's verified games lean on pick features that let you shape a bonus round. They are simple to follow on a small screen because each choice is one tap.

  • Great Blue: the whale wild doubles any win it helps form. Three or more clam scatters give eight free spins at 2x, then you pick two shells to add spins or raise the multiplier. The round can retrigger for 15 more spins.
  • Halloween Fortune: cauldrons on reels 1 and 5 together start a bonus where you pick a witch to set the number of spins and a potion to set the multiplier.
  • Buffalo Blitz: a 6x4 grid with 4,096 ways. Three to six scatters give 8, 15, 25 or 100 free spins, and wins involving wilds get a random multiplier.
  • Jackpot Giant: the progressive jackpot is won by landing five wilds on payline 1, and two volcano symbols open a pick game for cash prizes.
  • Buffalo Blitz II: free spins with WaysBoost reel expansion, taking the grid from 4,096 ways up to 14,400.

Picks feel like a decision, but the outcome is set by the game's random number generator and its maths. No choice changes the long-run return. Our glossary entry on the RNG explains why.

What Playtech slots cost per hour in pounds

Expected loss is stake × (100% − RTP). It is an average over a very large number of spins, so a single session can land well above or below it. The examples assume 300 spins in an hour, which is our own round number for illustration and well within the UK's 2.5-second minimum spin time.

Expected loss over 300 spins (illustration)
Slot and RTPStake per spinTotal stakedExpected loss
Halloween Fortune, 97.06%10p£30£30 × 2.94% = £0.88
Great Blue, 96.03%50p£150£150 × 3.97% = £5.96
Age of the Gods, 95.02%50p£150£150 × 4.98% = £7.47
Jackpot Giant, 94.22%£1£300£300 × 5.78% = £17.34

Two lessons stand out. Stake size moves the cost far more than RTP does, and high-volatility games such as Great Blue and Buffalo Blitz can swing much further from the average in either direction. With a £20 budget at £1 a spin, a high-volatility game can run dry in a few minutes.

If you want to know how much you have actually lost, the UK rules require apps to show net spend and time in session. Our guide to checking net deposits in an app shows where to look.

How to find Playtech games in a UK casino app

Casino apps do not all sort games by studio, and none of our partners publishes a list of its Playtech titles. These steps work whichever app you use.

  1. Open the casino app and sign in. Since 2019, UK operators must verify your age before you can play, including demo games.
  2. Use the search box in the game lobby, if there is one, and type a game name such as Age of the Gods rather than the word Playtech.
  3. If nothing appears, the app may not carry that title. Try another name from the table above.
  4. Before playing, open the game's information or help screen and check the RTP shown for that version.
  5. Set a deposit limit in your account settings first, so the session has a ceiling you chose in advance.

Our step-by-step guide to finding a game's RTP in an app covers the help screen in more detail.

Playing Playtech slots on an iPhone or Android phone

Modern slots are built in HTML5, which lets the same game run in a browser or inside an app on iOS and Android. In a casino app, the game is usually streamed from the supplier's servers when you open it, so it uses data and needs a steady connection.

Classic 5x3 games such as Halloween Fortune and Great Blue fit a phone screen easily. Six-reel games with 4,096 ways, like Buffalo Blitz, pack more symbols into the same space, so a larger phone or a tablet can make them easier to read. Whether a particular game runs in portrait, landscape or both depends on the game, so check when it loads.

The app you play in matters as much as the game. The PlayOJO app needs iOS 15.0 or later and is 25.4 MB on the App Store, while the Coral and Ladbrokes casino apps need iOS 18.0 or later and are just over 101 MB. Our guide to iPhone casino apps explains these requirements.

UK rules that shape Playtech slots in apps

Every Playtech slot offered to British players has to meet the Gambling Commission's remote technical standards on product design (opens in a new tab). Since 31 October 2021 that means no autoplay, at least 2.5 seconds per spin, no turbo or slam-stop, and no celebrating a return that is equal to or less than your stake.

Stake limits apply on top. Under the Commission's online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab), the maximum is £5 per spin if you are 25 or over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 if you are 18 to 24 (from 21 May 2025). Our page on slot stake limits covers the detail.

Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players. Games must also show their rules and RTP information, which is why the help screen is the right place to confirm a figure.

Quickspin and Playtech Live: the wider Playtech family

Playtech bought Quickspin in May 2016. The Stockholm studio keeps its own style, with titles such as Big Bad Wolf and Sakura Fortune, so its games feel different from Playtech's jackpot-led range.

Live dealer games are the other big strand. Our Playtech Live guide covers what is known about its tables and game shows. For a wider view of jackpot-heavy apps, see our list of the best casino apps for jackpots.

Frequently asked questions

Can you play Playtech slots on mobile?

Yes, Playtech slots run on iPhone and Android phones inside UK casino apps and mobile sites. There is no separate Playtech app: the game loads within the casino you play at, using the same maths as the desktop version. Whether a specific app lists a particular Playtech game is up to that casino, so search its lobby by game name. Our guide to slots on mobile explains how games load and what affects them on a phone.

Who owns Playtech?

Playtech is a public company listed on the London Stock Exchange under the ticker PTEC. It was founded in 1999 in Tartu, Estonia, by Teddy Sagi, floated on AIM in 2006 and is headquartered in Douglas, Isle of Man. It also owns the Swedish slot studio Quickspin, which it bought in May 2016. For other studios and their owners, browse our slot providers hub.

What is the RTP of Age of the Gods?

Age of the Gods has a published RTP of 95.02%, and that figure includes the contribution to its progressive jackpots. Because part of each stake funds the jackpot pool, the return from normal wins and features is a little lower than the headline. Casinos can run different versions of some games, so confirm the figure in the game's help screen before you play. Our RTP glossary entry explains what the percentage means in practice.

Which Playtech slot has the highest RTP?

Of the Playtech games we have verified, Halloween Fortune has the highest published RTP at 97.06%, though lower versions of it exist. Great Blue follows at 96.03%, and Jackpot Giant is lowest at 94.22%. A higher RTP lowers the expected cost over many spins but says nothing about a single session. To compare across studios, see our list of the best high-RTP casino apps.

Are Playtech jackpots smaller on mobile?

No, a progressive jackpot is the same prize whether you play on a phone or a computer, because the pool is shared by the game rather than by the device. The odds and RTP are set by the game version the casino runs, not by your screen. The chance of winning a top jackpot is very small on any device. Our answer to are jackpots smaller on casino apps covers this in more detail.

Is Quickspin part of Playtech?

Yes, Quickspin has been part of Playtech since May 2016. It still develops its own games from Stockholm, with titles such as Big Bad Wolf, Sakura Fortune and Goldilocks, and holds its own Gambling Commission licence (account 38516). Its style is quite different from Playtech's jackpot games, focusing on fairy-tale themes and respin features. Read our Quickspin slots guide for its main titles and their specifications.

Can I buy the bonus in Playtech slots in the UK?

No, you can't buy your way into a bonus round on slots offered to British players. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so free spins and pick bonuses have to trigger during normal play. Other UK design rules also apply, including no autoplay and a 2.5-second minimum spin. Our game design rules page sets them out with dates.

How much can I stake on a Playtech slot in a UK app?

The most you can stake per spin on any online slot in Great Britain is £5 if you are 25 or over, and £2 if you are aged 18 to 24. These limits came in on 9 April 2025 and 21 May 2025 and apply to every studio's slots, Playtech included. Table games such as roulette are not covered by them. See our guide to slot stake limits on mobile for worked examples.
