It holds a Gambling Commission licence (reference 000-054059) and has a catalogue of more than 250 games, with Wanted Dead or a Wild its best known. See our Hacksaw Gaming page for more.

Where 15,625 ways comes from
Le Viking pays on ways rather than fixed lines. Matching symbols pay when they land on adjacent reels, whatever row they sit in. With five positions on each of six reels, the number of possible ways is 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5 × 5, which is 15,625. Unlike a Megaways game, that number is fixed on every spin.
Alongside the regular symbols, the grid carries coin, diamond and clover symbols. The coins matter most, because they lead into Raid Spins.
How the features work in Le Viking
The game has two separate routes to its bigger moments: coins lead to Raid Spins, and scatters lead to free spins.
Raid Spins
Landing six coins at once starts Raid Spins. This is a hold and win feature: certain symbols lock in place while the other positions keep respinning. You begin with three lives. The rules screen in the game explains exactly how lives are used and when the feature ends.
Free spins tiers
Three to six free spins scatters trigger free spins rounds that grow stronger as the scatter count rises. The four rounds are named Berserk, Valkyrie, Ragnarok and Journey to Valhalla, in ascending order of strength.
| Scatters | Round | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | Berserk | Entry round |
| 4 | Valkyrie | Stronger |
| 5 | Ragnarok | Stronger again |
| 6 | Journey to Valhalla | Strongest |
Sticky multipliers and Magic Cauldrons
During free spins, the positions where scatters landed become sticky grid multipliers. Magic Cauldrons then collect the coins and multipliers around them. So the coin symbols matter in both features: in Raid Spins directly, and in free spins through the cauldrons.
The exact number of spins in each round and the cauldron rules are in the game’s paytable. Open it before you play so you know what each tier offers.
Le Viking RTP and volatility: three ways to spend £20
At a 96.32% RTP, the house edge is 3.68%. That is the average cost of each spin as a share of your stake. Medium volatility means results swing less than on high-volatility games, but you will still see losing runs.
| Stake | Spins if nothing comes back | Average cost per spin | Top possible win (10,000×) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 200 | 0.37p | £1,000 |
| 50p | 40 | 1.84p | £5,000 |
| £1 | 20 | 3.68p | £10,000 |
Over the full £20 staked, the average cost is about 74p at any of these stakes. The difference is pace and swing. At 10p, Raid Spins and the free spins tiers get ten times as many chances to appear as at £1. The top-win column is a ceiling, not a likely result; the house edge means losses are expected over time.
If you are aged 25 or over, the most you can stake on a single spin is £5, which would put the theoretical ceiling at £50,000. For 18–24-year-olds, the £2 cap puts it at £20,000. Neither figure is something to plan around.
Le Viking and Hacksaw’s other “Le” slots
The three “Le” games we cover share a 6×5 grid but use different win systems. Here they are on published figures.
| Slot | RTP | Volatility | Ways to win | Max win |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Le Viking | 96.32% | Medium | 15,625 ways | 10,000× stake |
| Le Pharaoh | 96.18% | Medium (3 of 5) | 19 paylines | 15,000× stake |
| Le Bandit | 96.34% | Medium | Cluster pays | 10,000× |
All three sit in the medium band, which is gentler than Hacksaw games such as Chaos Crew 2, rated high (5 of 5). If you want something calmer from the same studio, the “Le” series is the place to start.
Le Viking vs other Viking slots
- Vikings by NetEnt: 5×3 with 243 ways, 96.05% default RTP, high volatility and a 10,000× top win. It also has a feature called Raid Spins, though the two games are separate designs.
- Vikings Go Berzerk by Yggdrasil: 5×4 with 25 paylines, 96.1% RTP and medium-to-high volatility.
- Vikings Go Wild by Yggdrasil: 5×4 with 25 paylines, 96.3% RTP and low-to-medium volatility.
Le Viking has the fixed 15,625 ways and medium volatility, so it sits between these on risk.
How to play the Le Viking slot on your phone
Le Viking is a browser-based HTML5 game, so it runs inside a casino app or mobile browser on iPhone and Android. Hacksaw does not state whether it is designed for portrait or landscape. A 6×5 grid with coins and multipliers has plenty of detail, so a larger screen helps with following the cauldrons.
- Download a UK-licensed casino app from the App Store or Google Play; see our Android install guide or iPhone guide.
- Register and complete age and identity checks, which UK casinos must finish before you deposit or play demo games.
- Set a deposit limit at the prompt before your first deposit.
- Search the lobby for “Le Viking”; we cannot confirm which apps carry it.
- Open the paytable to read the Raid Spins and free spins rules, and confirm the RTP.
- Choose your stake and stop when your planned time or budget is used.
If your signal drops during Raid Spins, the result sits on the casino’s server. Our guide to how casino apps handle disconnections explains how to find it in your history.
UK rules for Le Viking in casino apps
Le Viking launched in January 2025, just as the newest UK rules were arriving. From 17 January 2025, autoplay was banned on all online casino games and net spend and time played had to be shown in real time. The online slot stake caps followed: £5 per spin for over-25s from 9 April 2025 and £2 for 18–24-year-olds from 21 May 2025, as set out in the Commission’s online slots stake limit guidance (opens in a new tab).
The older slot design rules in RTS 14 (opens in a new tab) also apply: 2.5 seconds minimum per spin, no turbo or slam-stop and no celebrating returns at or below your stake. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so every free spins tier is reached through scatters. Our slot stake limits page has the full detail.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Le Viking?
Le Viking has a published RTP of 96.32%, which means a house edge of 3.68%. Over a very long run the game is designed to keep about 3.7p of every £1 staked, though any one session can land far from that. Casinos can sometimes choose between RTP versions, so confirm the figure in the game’s information screen. Our RTP-finding guide explains the usual places it appears.
How do Raid Spins work in Le Viking?
Raid Spins start when six coins land at once. It is a hold-and-win respin feature, so certain symbols stay locked while other positions respin, and you begin with three lives. The exact rules on how lives are used and restored are in the game’s paytable, so read them before playing. For a general explanation of the mechanic, see our hold and win glossary entry.
What are the free spins rounds in Le Viking?
Le Viking has four free spins rounds: Berserk, Valkyrie, Ragnarok and Journey to Valhalla. They are triggered by three to six free spins scatters, and the rounds get stronger as the scatter count rises. In each, scatter positions become sticky grid multipliers and Magic Cauldrons collect the coins and multipliers around them. The paytable lists exact spin counts. Our guide to free spins in casino apps explains how these differ from bonus spins.
What is the max win on Le Viking?
The maximum win on Le Viking is 10,000 times your stake. That is £1,000 at 10p, £20,000 at the £2 limit for 18–24-year-olds and £50,000 at the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over. Results near that ceiling are very rare, and losses are the likely outcome over time because of the house edge. Treat it as a guide to the game’s shape. Our volatility glossary entry explains why.
Is Le Viking high volatility?
No, Le Viking is rated medium volatility. That puts it in the middle: results swing less than on high-volatility slots, but losing runs still happen. The other Hacksaw “Le” games we cover, Le Pharaoh and Le Bandit, are also medium, while titles such as Chaos Crew 2 are rated high. Volatility does not change the 3.68% house edge. See our explainer on volatility in slot apps for more.
Can I play Le Viking on my phone?
Yes, Le Viking runs in HTML5, so it works in casino apps and mobile browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android, if the casino offers it. Hacksaw does not publish whether it is built for portrait or landscape. The 6×5 grid has a lot going on, so a larger screen may be easier. You must pass age verification before playing, even in demo mode. Our page on casino apps on iPhone covers iOS requirements.
Who makes Le Viking?
Hacksaw Gaming makes Le Viking. The studio launched in September 2018, is based in Malta, and is part of Hacksaw AB, which has been listed on Nasdaq Stockholm since 25 June 2025. It holds a Gambling Commission licence and has more than 250 games, including Wanted Dead or a Wild, Le Pharaoh and Le Bandit. Compare its slots on our Hacksaw Gaming page or browse all slot providers.
Is Le Viking the same as NetEnt’s Vikings?
No, they are different games from different studios. Le Viking is a Hacksaw Gaming slot on a 6×5 grid with 15,625 ways and medium volatility. NetEnt’s Vikings uses a 5×3 grid with 243 ways, a 96.05% default RTP and high volatility. Both happen to have a feature called Raid Spins and a 10,000× top win, but the designs are separate. Read our Vikings review for its own details.
