What the Lil Devil slot is

Lil Devil is a Big Time Gaming slot from 2019 that swaps the studio’s famous changing reels for a fixed 6×4 grid. Every spin shows 24 symbols, and wins pay left to right on adjacent reels, so there are always 4,096 ways to win: four positions on each of six reels, multiplied together.

Big Time Gaming was founded in Sydney in 2011, is led by Nik Robinson and became part of Evolution after a deal announced in April 2021. It is best known for the Megaways mechanic, seen in games like Bonanza Megaways. Our Big Time Gaming page lists more of its slots. For the full set of reviews, start at our slots hub.

How the features work in Lil Devil

Multiplier wilds in the base game

The middle reels can land wilds: a Devil Wild and Angel Wilds. These carry multipliers between 4x and 12x, which are applied to wins they help to form. Because the multiplier sits on the wild itself, one well-placed wild can turn a small line of matching symbols into a far larger return.

Choosing your free spins

Land three or more Wooden Hut scatters and the game asks you to choose a round. Be My Angel free spins let you pick a symbol that becomes sticky wilds, and any reel that fills completely turns into Angel Wilds. Dynamite Lover free spins use cascading reactions, where winning symbols are cleared and replaced, plus a Dynamite Wild whose multiplier grows as the round goes on.

The heart meter

Landing two scatters in the base game doesn’t trigger the bonus, but it does award hearts. Collect 40 hearts and enhanced versions of both free spins rounds open. The game rules explain what the enhancements add and whether the meter’s progress carries over, so read them before you rely on it.

4,096 ways explained: the maths behind the grid

Ways-to-win slots pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the left, regardless of row. On a grid with four rows, each reel offers four positions, so the count is 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 4,096.

That doesn’t mean 4,096 separate bets. You pay one stake per spin, and the game checks every path at once. More ways tend to mean more frequent small wins than a 10-line game, but the RTP and volatility, not the ways count, decide what the game returns over time.

Our guide to Megaways slots on mobile shows how changing reel heights push the count far higher, and why a bigger number doesn’t mean a better game.

Lil Devil RTP and volatility: how far £20 goes

At 96.43%, Lil Devil’s house edge is 3.57%. One useful way to picture that is to ask how much you’d need to stake, on average, before the expected loss reaches £20: £20 ÷ 0.0357 = about £560.

£20 on Lil Devil: average turnover before the expected loss reaches £20
StakeSpins to stake £560Time at 2.5 seconds per spinSpins from £20 with no wins
10pAbout 5,600About 3 hours 53 minutes200
50pAbout 1,120About 47 minutes40
£1About 560About 23 minutes20

Treat the middle columns as a best-case average, not a forecast. High volatility means a £20 balance can run out long before that, especially at £1, where the last column shows just 20 paid spins unless something lands. Equally, a strong bonus can run a balance up. The edge only describes the long run.

The published specification for Lil Devil doesn’t include a maximum win, so we don’t quote one. If a top prize matters to you, the figure is in the game’s rules screen.

Playing the Lil Devil slot on your phone

Lil Devil runs inside the casino app’s game window on iPhone and Android whenever the operator lists it. A 6×4 grid is wider than a classic 5×3 slot, and its specification doesn’t say whether there’s a portrait layout, so try turning your phone to landscape if the symbols look small. Our guide to landscape vs portrait mode explains the trade-offs.

  1. Find Lil Devil in the app’s lobby by searching its name.
  2. Open the rules or “i” screen and confirm the RTP your app shows.
  3. Read how the heart meter works in that version.
  4. Pick a stake that gives your budget enough spins for a high-volatility game.
  5. When the scatters land, choose the free spins round you prefer.

If the screen looks cramped on an older handset, our page on casino apps on older phones has practical fixes, and clearing an app’s cache can help if games load slowly.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Lil Devil?

Lil Devil’s RTP is 96.43%, giving a house edge of 3.57%. Over a very large number of spins, that means about £3.57 is kept for every £100 staked, though any single session can end higher or lower. Operators may run different versions, so confirm the figure in the game’s rules screen. Our guide to finding a game’s RTP in an app shows where to look.

Which Lil Devil free spins should I choose?

Choose whichever style you enjoy, because both rounds are part of the same 96.43% RTP. Be My Angel builds sticky wilds from a symbol you pick, with full reels turning into Angel Wilds. Dynamite Lover uses cascading reactions and a Dynamite Wild whose multiplier grows. Neither is a way to improve your long-run return. Our free spins glossary entry explains in-game spins versus promotional ones.

How do the hearts work on Lil Devil?

Hearts are awarded when you land two scatters in the base game, one short of the bonus trigger. Collecting 40 of them opens enhanced versions of both free spins rounds. The game’s rules explain what the enhanced rounds add and how the meter behaves, so read them in your app before relying on it. Our paytable glossary entry explains where game rules are kept.

How many ways to win does Lil Devil have?

Lil Devil has 4,096 ways to win on a six-reel, four-row grid. The number comes from simple multiplication: four positions on each of six reels gives 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4. You still pay a single stake per spin, and wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left. Our Megaways glossary entry shows how variable reels raise that count.

What is the max win on Lil Devil?

The maximum win isn’t in the published specification we use, so we don’t quote a figure. Third-party sites list various numbers, but the reliable source is the rules screen inside the game, which shows the cap for the version your app runs. Whatever the cap, wins near it are extremely rare. Our page on volatility in slot apps explains why.

Who makes the Lil Devil slot?

Big Time Gaming made Lil Devil and released it in 2019. The studio was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2011, is led by Nik Robinson and became part of Evolution after a deal announced in April 2021. It is best known for inventing the Megaways mechanic. Our Big Time Gaming studio page lists more of its games.

Can you buy the bonus on Lil Devil in the UK?

No, British players can’t buy their way into the free spins. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the only route into either round is landing three or more Wooden Hut scatters. Autoplay and turbo are also absent on UK slots. Read our explainer on why there is no autoplay.

What is the most I can stake on Lil Devil?

You can stake up to £5 a spin if you’re 25 or over, or £2 a spin if you’re aged 18 to 24. These Gambling Commission caps apply to every online slot in UK-licensed apps and have been in force since April and May 2025. Your app applies the limit from your verified date of birth. See our page on the slot stake limit on apps.
