Casino Hold'em on mobile

Casino Hold'em on mobile is Texas Hold'em played against the house rather than other players: you post an Ante, see your two cards and the flop, then fold or call for twice the Ante. With the most common pay table the house edge is 2.16% of the Ante, and one decision per hand makes it well suited to a phone.

Key takeaways

  • You make one decision per hand: fold and lose the Ante, or call with a bet of 2x the Ante.
  • The dealer needs a pair of fours or better to qualify; if not, your Ante is paid and your Call is returned.
  • With the common ante pay table, the house edge is 2.16% and an optimal player calls about 82% of hands.
  • The AA Bonus side bet costs between 2.97% and 6.40% depending on its pay table.
  • UK rules require at least 5 seconds per game cycle for house-banked poker and ban autoplay.

What Casino Hold'em on mobile is

Casino Hold'em is a house-banked poker game. You play your hand against the dealer's, using the familiar Texas Hold'em format of two private cards plus five shared community cards. There are no other players to beat, no bluffing and no poker room: the casino sets the payouts and keeps an edge, like any table game.

That makes it different from peer-to-peer poker apps, where you play other people for a pot and the operator takes a fee. In Casino Hold'em every hand is you against the house, and the pay table decides the long-run cost. On a phone the appeal is obvious: one simple decision per hand, readable cards, and rounds that fit a few spare minutes.

This page covers the rules, the maths and what changes on a small screen. For the wider range of games, start at our mobile casino games hub, and for other dealer-banked card games see Three Card Poker on mobile.

How a hand of Casino Hold'em plays on your phone

The structure below follows the standard rules analysed by Wizard of Odds. Buttons and layouts vary by game, so check the help screen for the exact controls in yours.

  1. Choose your Ante stake. If you want the optional AA Bonus side bet, place it now too.
  2. Start the hand. You get two cards face up, the dealer gets two cards you can't see yet, and three community cards (the flop) are dealt face up.
  3. Decide: fold, losing your Ante, or call by adding a Call bet worth twice the Ante.
  4. If you call, two more community cards (the turn and river) are dealt and the dealer's hand is revealed.
  5. Both sides make their best five-card hand from their two cards plus the five community cards.
  6. Bets are settled according to whether the dealer qualifies and who has the better hand, as set out in the next section.

Because the decision comes after the flop, you already see five of the seven cards that make your final hand. That is why the game folds so rarely under optimal play.

Dealer qualifying and how Casino Hold'em bets settle

The dealer must hold a pair of fours or better to qualify. That one rule shapes every outcome when you call.

You call; dealer doesn't qualifyPaid from the ante pay tableReturned (push)
You call; dealer qualifies and you winPaid from the ante pay tablePaid 1 to 1
You call; dealer qualifies and winsLostLost
You call; dealer qualifies and tiesReturned (push)Returned (push)

Note the asymmetry. When the dealer fails to qualify you still win the Ante, but your larger Call bet only comes back. The best results come when a qualifying dealer loses, because both bets pay.

The Casino Hold'em ante pay table and house edge

The Ante is paid according to your final hand, not as a flat even-money win. The most common table, listed by Wizard of Odds, is below.

Most common Casino Hold'em ante pay table
Your handAnte pays
Royal flush100 to 1
Straight flush20 to 1
Four of a kind10 to 1
Full house3 to 1
Flush2 to 1
Straight or lower1 to 1

With this table and optimal play, the house edge is 2.16%, measured against the Ante. Other pay tables exist, including one that charges a commission on net session wins, which isn't directly comparable. The table in your game's info screen is the one that counts; UK rules require it to be available before you play. Wizard of Odds' Casino Hold'em page (opens in a new tab) lists the alternatives.

Call or fold: what optimal Casino Hold'em play looks like

Wizard of Odds' analysis shows that an optimal player calls about 82% of the time and folds 18.01% of hands under the common pay table. The practical lesson for phone players is simple: folding is the exception, not the default.

Why so few folds? A call risks 2 more units, but you already know five of your seven cards, the dealer fails to qualify a fair share of the time, and even a modest hand can win against a weak dealer. Folding too often hands the house extra Antes for nothing, which raises the edge above 2.16%.

Detailed strategy guides set out exactly which hands to fold. If you don't want to learn one, treat calling as the starting point and fold mainly when your cards and the flop have given you nothing at all. No strategy removes the edge; good play only keeps it near the published figure.

Strategy here means making the mathematically better decision with the cards in front of you. It doesn't change the odds of the cards, and no betting pattern or system beats the house edge.

The AA Bonus side bet: what it really costs

The AA Bonus pays on your own five-card hand after the flop (your two cards plus the three flop cards), if that hand is a pair of aces or better. Because it is judged on your cards and the flop alone, the dealer's hand doesn't matter to it. Its cost depends heavily on the pay table.

Variant B25 for a flush or better, 7 for aces up to a straight6.40%

The best AA Bonus table is a fair price for a side bet, but the other two cost three times the main game. If your app's game doesn't show which table it uses, assume the worse figure and decide accordingly. Our glossary entry on side bets covers the general principle.

What Casino Hold'em costs per hand, in pounds

The house edge is quoted against the Ante, so cost per hand is Ante × 2.16%. With a £5 Ante, that is about 11p per hand on average, or £10.80 over 100 hands.

Your money on the table is higher than £5, though. If you call 82% of the time, your average stake per hand is £5 + (0.82 × £10) = about £13.20. The 11p expected loss is therefore under 1% of what you actually put down, which is why Casino Hold'em compares well with many table games.

What you playEdgeExpected loss per 100 hands

Plus £1 AA Bonus, best table2.97% of side bet£2.97 extra
Plus £1 AA Bonus, Variant B6.40% of side bet£6.40 extra

These figures assume near-optimal decisions; folding too often costs more. Results in any session can swing a long way, and losses are the likely outcome over time. If you want hands to last longer, our low stakes games guide explains how stake size and pace interact, and a deposit limit caps the total.

Casino Hold'em vs other casino poker games on mobile

Casino Hold'em sits among the cheaper house-banked poker games. The edges below are Wizard of Odds' figures with optimal strategy and the standard pay tables. Each game measures its edge slightly differently, so treat close figures as roughly equal.

House edges of casino poker games
GameDecisionsHouse edge
Texas Hold'em Bonus (Las Vegas rules)Several betting rounds2.037%

Three Card Poker (Ante and Play)One: fold or play 1x3.37%

Caribbean Stud PokerOne: fold or raise 2x5.224%

For phone play, Casino Hold'em's single decision is a real advantage over Ultimate Texas Hold'em, where several choices in quick succession are harder on a small screen. Caribbean Stud, by contrast, costs more than twice as much. Our best casino poker apps page and video poker on mobile cover related games.

Playing Casino Hold'em on a small screen

Seven cards, two hands and a pay table are a lot for a phone screen. A few habits make it easier.

  • Rotate the phone if the game supports landscape; the community cards usually get more room. See our guide to landscape vs portrait mode.
  • Work out your best hand before you tap; on a small screen the fold and call controls can sit close together.
  • Leave the AA Bonus area empty unless you've decided to play it; a stray tap adds a side bet to every hand.
  • Check the session clock and net spend display between hands. UK rules require both to be visible.

Animated Casino Hold'em suits patchy signal, because it doesn't stream video. If your app's live lobby lists a dealer-run Casino Hold'em table, expect slower rounds and heavier data use; our live casino data usage page explains why.

UK rules for Casino Hold'em apps

Casino Hold'em is a house-played poker game, so it falls under the Gambling Commission's rules for casino games other than slots, not the rules for peer-to-peer poker. The relevant standards are in RTS 14 on responsible product design (opens in a new tab).

  • At least 5 seconds from the start of one game cycle to the next, from 17 January 2025. The Commission's rule names house-played poker such as Three Card Poker as covered.
  • No autoplay: you start each hand yourself.
  • No playing multiple casino games at once.
  • Net spend and time spent shown in real time.
  • Results must be acceptably random, and adaptive games that adjust outcomes are banned.
  • The online slot stake limits of £5 and £2 don't apply; table limits do.

You'll also need to pass age and identity checks before you deposit or play, including demo versions. Our page on the UK game speed rules has the timeline.

Casino apps for Casino Hold'em in the UK

None of our partners lists Casino Hold'em by name in its store listing or help pages, so open the table games and live casino lobbies to check before you sign up. What the listings confirm:

  • Casumo lists live casino alongside slots on both stores. Its iPhone app needs iOS 15.0 or later, which suits older phones better than most.
  • 10bet carries live casino tables in its combined sports and casino app and offers phone support from 08:00 to 23:00.
  • Coral Casino is a standalone casino app; its listing names blackjack, roulette and Live Casino. It needs iOS 18.0 or later.

Our Casumo vs 10bet comparison sets two of these apps side by side on payments, support and devices.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Casino Hold'em on a phone?

You place an Ante, receive two cards, and see a three-card flop. Then you either fold, losing the Ante, or call with a bet of twice the Ante. The turn and river follow, and your best five-card hand is compared with the dealer's. The dealer needs a pair of fours or better to qualify. Our casino poker apps ranking suggests where to play, and Three Card Poker is a similar game.

What is the house edge in Casino Hold'em?

With the most common ante pay table and optimal play, it's 2.16%, measured against the Ante. That means an average loss of about 11p per hand at a £5 Ante. Because you call most hands, your total stake averages about £13.20, so the loss is under 1% of the money you put down. Other pay tables can differ. Compare games on our house edge by game page.

When should you fold in Casino Hold'em?

Rarely. Wizard of Odds' analysis shows an optimal player folds only about 18% of hands and calls about 82% under the common pay table. You already see five of your seven cards when you decide, and the dealer often fails to qualify, so even modest hands are usually worth a call. Folding too often raises the house edge. See the baccarat app guide for a game with no decisions at all.

What happens if the dealer doesn't qualify?

If the dealer doesn't have a pair of fours or better, your Ante is paid according to the ante pay table and your Call bet is returned. You don't lose anything on a hand you called, but your bigger Call bet doesn't win either. If you folded, you lost the Ante before the dealer's hand was revealed. Our paytable glossary entry explains how pay tables work.

Is the AA Bonus side bet worth playing?

It depends on the pay table. The best common AA Bonus table has a 2.97% house edge, not far above the main game. Two other tables cost 6.26% and 6.40%, roughly three times the main game. The bet pays on your two cards plus the flop if they make a pair of aces or better. Check the game's paytable first. Our side bet glossary entry explains why side bets usually cost more.

Is Casino Hold'em the same as Texas Hold'em poker?

It uses the same cards and hand rankings, but it isn't the same game. In Texas Hold'em poker you play other people for a pot and can bluff. In Casino Hold'em you play only against the dealer, there's one decision per hand, and the casino keeps a house edge set by the pay table. Ultimate Texas Hold'em and Texas Hold'em Bonus are other house-banked versions. See best casino poker apps for options.

Is there a time limit between hands in UK apps?

Yes, a minimum rather than a limit. Since 17 January 2025, casino games other than slots, including house-played poker, must allow at least 5 seconds from the start of one game cycle to the next. Autoplay is banned, so you start every hand yourself, and you can't play several games at once. Read our guide to game speed rules on mobile for the full picture.

Can I use a casino welcome bonus on Casino Hold'em?

Often only at a reduced rate, or not at all. Welcome bonuses are generally aimed at slots, and table games are frequently excluded or count for less towards wagering. Free spins work only on the slots named in the terms. Check the bonus terms in your app before staking bonus funds on a poker table game. Our guide to reading casino app bonus terms explains what to look for.
