Craps on mobile
Craps on mobile looks intimidating because the table is crowded, but almost everything comes down to two dice and 36 equally likely results. The Pass and Don't Pass bets cost around 1.4% of each bet, while some of the bright one-roll bets in the middle of the layout cost more than 16%. Here's how to tell them apart on a phone screen.
Key takeaways
- Two dice give 36 equal combinations; six of them make 7, so a 7 lands one roll in six.
- Pass (1.41%) and Don't Pass (1.36%) are among the cheapest bets; odds bets added behind them carry no house edge.
- Any Seven (16.67%) and the 2 or 12 at 30 to 1 (13.89%) are among the most expensive bets on the layout.
- No betting system changes the edge: each roll is independent of the last.
- UK apps must give each round at least 5 seconds and can't offer autoplay.

Craps on mobile starts with the dice maths
Every craps bet is priced from one fact: two six-sided dice produce 36 equally likely combinations. Totals in the middle can be made more ways than totals at the edges, which is why 7 matters so much in this game.
| Total | Ways | Chance per roll |
|---|---|---|
| 2 or 12 | 1 each | 2.78% each |
| 3 or 11 | 2 each | 5.56% each |
| 4 or 10 | 3 each | 8.33% each |
| 5 or 9 | 4 each | 11.11% each |
| 6 or 8 | 5 each | 13.89% each |
| 7 | 6 | 16.67% |
With six ways out of 36, a 7 has a one-in-six chance on any roll. Wizard of Odds points out that every toss in craps is independent of all past events, so a long wait for a 7 doesn't make one more likely next time. Keep that in mind when a game shows you a history of recent rolls.
Craps is a dice game like sic bo, but it uses two dice and builds most of its action around a point number. Both sit within our mobile casino games guides.
The Pass line: how a craps round works in an app
Most players start on the Pass line. A round has two stages, and the app tracks the point for you with a marker on the layout.
- Place a Pass line bet before the first roll, known as the come-out roll.
- On the come-out, a 7 or 11 wins straight away, and a 2, 3 or 12 loses.
- Any other total (4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10) becomes the point.
- The dice keep rolling. If the point comes up before a 7, Pass wins even money.
- If a 7 comes first, Pass loses and the round ends.
- A new come-out roll starts the next round.
You can check the 1.41% edge with the dice table. Pass wins on 8 of the 36 come-out results, and then wins some of the point battles: a 4 or 10 point beats a 7 three times in nine, a 5 or 9 four times in ten, and a 6 or 8 five times in eleven. Add it all up and Pass wins 244 bets in every 495, about 49.29%, which leaves the house 1.41% on an even-money payout.
Don't Pass, Come and Don't Come
Don't Pass is broadly the opposite bet: it wins when Pass loses, except for one come-out total that is treated as a tie, which is how the house keeps its edge. Its edge is 1.36% per bet made. Come and Don't Come work like Pass and Don't Pass but are placed after a point is set, and they carry the same 1.41% and 1.36%.
Odds bets: the only bet with no house edge
Once a point is set, many craps games let you add an odds bet behind your Pass or Come bet. It's paid at true odds, so it carries no house edge at all.
| Point | Taking odds (behind Pass or Come) | Laying odds (behind Don't Pass or Don't Come) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 10 | Pays 2 to 1 | Pays 1 to 2 |
| 5 or 9 | Pays 3 to 2 | Pays 2 to 3 |
| 6 or 8 | Pays 6 to 5 | Pays 5 to 6 |
Odds bets don't add to your average loss, but they do increase the money on the table and so make your results swing more. A £5 Pass bet with £10 of odds still costs about 7p per round on average, yet you can lose £15 in a single round. Online games set their own maximum odds multiple, so check the help screen.
Craps bets from cheapest to most expensive
Wizard of Odds' craps house edge table (opens in a new tab) gives each bet's edge per bet made, per bet resolved and per roll. We use the per-bet-resolved figure except where marked, as its summary table does. The pound column shows the average cost of a £5 bet each time it settles.
| Bet | Pays | House edge | Average cost per £5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Odds (behind Pass or Come) | True odds | 0% | 0p |
| Don't Pass / Don't Come | 1 to 1 | 1.36% (per bet made) | 6.8p |
| Pass / Come | 1 to 1 | 1.41% | 7.1p |
| Place 6 or 8 | 7 to 6 | 1.52% | 7.6p |
| Buy 4 or 10 (commission on wins only) | True odds, 5% commission on wins | 1.67% | 8.4p |
| Place 5 or 9 | 7 to 5 | 4.00% | 20p |
| Field (2 and 12 pay 2 to 1) | 1 to 1, 2 to 1 | 5.56% | 27.8p |
| Place 4 or 10 | 9 to 5 | 6.67% | 33.4p |
| Big 6 or Big 8 | 1 to 1 | 9.09% | 45.5p |
| Hard 6 or 8 | 9 to 1 | 9.09% | 45.5p |
| Hard 4 or 10 | 7 to 1 | 11.11% | 55.6p |
| Any Craps (2, 3 or 12) | 7 to 1 | 11.11% | 55.6p |
| 2 or 12 | 30 to 1 | 13.89% | 69.5p |
| Any Seven | 4 to 1 | 16.67% | 83.4p |
Notice that Place 6 at 7 to 6 costs 1.52% while Big 6, which wins on exactly the same roll, pays only even money and costs 9.09%. On a phone, these two spots can sit close together, so it's worth knowing which is which before you tap.
The Field's edge depends on its pay table: 5.56% when the 2 and 12 both pay 2 to 1, 2.78% when one of them pays 3 to 1. Buy bets also vary: with 5% commission charged only on wins, Buy 6 or 8 is 2.27% and Buy 5 or 9 is 2.00%, but if commission is always charged each rises to 4.76%.
Worked example: two ways to play £5 craps
Picture two players, each betting £5 a time for 50 bets. The first sticks to the Pass line. The second likes the one-roll bets in the centre and puts £5 on Any Seven every roll.
- Pass line player: 50 × £5 × 1.41% = about £3.53 expected loss across 50 resolved bets.
- Any Seven player: 50 × £5 × 16.67% = about £41.68 expected loss across 50 rolls.
Same stake, same number of bets, and the second player's average cost is nearly 12 times higher. Neither result is certain in a short session, but over time results tend towards those averages. If your budget for the evening is £20, the difference decides whether it lasts.
Why betting systems don't work at craps
Craps has a long association with betting systems, from doubling after a loss to pressing bets after a win. None changes the house edge, because each roll is independent and every bet keeps its own price.
Wizard of Odds ran a craps simulation of the Martingale system (opens in a new tab), doubling the stake after each loss. The bettor went broke in 19.65% of sessions, and the ratio of money lost to money bet matched flat betting, settling towards the house edge. The system made losses bigger and faster without making them less likely in the long run.
The same goes for watching for "hot" or "cold" dice. A run of rolls gives no information about the next one. If you notice yourself raising stakes to win back losses, that's a signal to stop; our reality checks guide explains the reminders apps can show.
RNG, First Person and live craps on your phone
Craps reaches phones in three broad forms. RNG craps uses a random number generator and animated dice. Evolution's First Person range (opens in a new tab), which includes Craps, is also RNG-based but uses 3D animation, and Evolution says a Go Live button can take you from a First Person game to the live version. Live versions stream real dice from a studio; Evolution groups its live dice games in its live craps and dice (opens in a new tab) range.
The trade-offs are practical. RNG and First Person games use less data and suit slower connections, while live streams look more like a real table but need a steady signal. Our guides to First Person games and playing live casino on mobile data cover each in more depth.
Making the craps layout work on a small screen
Craps has more bet spots than almost any other table game, and phone versions handle this in different ways. These habits help whatever the design:
- Learn three spots first: Pass, Don't Pass and the odds area. You can enjoy the game without touching anything else.
- Rotate if needed. A wide craps table is often easier to read sideways; our page on games built for portrait mode explains why some studios redesign for upright screens.
- Check before each roll. Many games carry bets over between rolls, so confirm what's on the layout before the dice go.
- Watch your balance and session time. UK apps must show your net position and time played; glance at them between rounds.
UK rules for craps in casino apps
Craps in a UK app falls under the Gambling Commission's RTS 14 product design rules (opens in a new tab) for casino games other than slots. Since 17 January 2025 that means:
- a game cycle of at least 5 seconds;
- no autoplay, so every roll is started by a player action;
- no playing several casino games at the same time;
- your net position and time spent shown in real time.
The £5 and £2 stake limits are for online slots only, so they don't cap craps bets; table limits are set by each game. Credit card deposits have been banned since 14 April 2020, and our game design rules and credit card ban pages give the full background. Age and identity checks also apply before you can play, including in free demo versions.
Choosing a UK casino app for craps
Craps is less common in UK app lobbies than roulette or blackjack, and our partners don't publish whether they carry it. Search the lobby for "craps" or "dice" before you deposit. If you also want live tables, our best live casino apps list is a good place to compare.
| Partner | App type (App Store) | Where to read more |
|---|---|---|
| Casumo | Combined casino and sportsbook app | Casumo live casino app |
| 10bet | Sportsbook app with casino and live tables | 10bet live casino app |
| Coral Casino | Standalone casino app | Coral live casino app |
Our pages on the Casumo live casino app, the 10bet live casino app and the Coral live casino app cover what each operator publishes about its live games. For a head-to-head, see Coral vs Casumo.

Frequently asked questions
Can you play craps on a mobile casino app?
Yes, some UK-licensed casino apps offer craps as an RNG game, a First Person game or a live dealer table, but it's less common than roulette or blackjack. Search the app's lobby for "craps" or "dice" before depositing, as operators rarely publish full table game lists. The rules and house edge are the same on a phone as on a computer. Our mobile casino games hub covers other table games you might find instead.
What is the best bet in craps?
The cheapest bets are Don't Pass at 1.36% and Pass at 1.41%, plus odds bets behind them, which carry no house edge. Place 6 or 8 is close behind at 1.52%. Those bets still lose money on average, so "best" means lowest cost rather than profitable. The centre one-roll bets cost far more, up to 16.67% for Any Seven. Compare these with other games on our house edge by game page.
What is the house edge on the Pass line?
The Pass line has a 1.41% house edge. It wins about 244 bets in every 495, around 49.29% of the time, and pays even money, so the house keeps 1.41% of the amount bet on average. On a £5 bet that's roughly 7p each time the bet settles. Come bets carry the same edge. Our house edge glossary entry explains how this figure is calculated.
Do odds bets in craps really have no house edge?
Yes. Odds bets pay at true odds, 2 to 1 on a 4 or 10, 3 to 2 on a 5 or 9 and 6 to 5 on a 6 or 8, so the house has no edge on that part of your stake. They don't make the game profitable, because the Pass or Come bet they sit behind still carries its edge, and they increase the money at risk. Our sic bo guide shows how a different dice game prices its bets.
Does the Martingale system work in craps?
No. Doubling your stake after each loss doesn't change the house edge on any bet. In a Wizard of Odds craps simulation, a Martingale bettor went broke in 19.65% of sessions, and the money lost relative to money bet matched simple flat betting. Table limits and your budget stop the doubling long before it can recover a bad run. Our reality checks guide explains tools that help you keep track.
Is live craps available on mobile in the UK?
It depends on the app. Evolution, a major live studio, groups its live dice games in a craps and dice range, but whether a live craps table appears in a UK app depends on that operator's lobby. Live tables stream video, so they need a steadier connection and more data than RNG versions. Check the live casino section of your app before you sign up. Our guide to live casino on mobile data explains connection needs.
How long does each craps roll take in UK apps?
At least 5 seconds per game cycle. Since 17 January 2025, UK rules require casino games other than slots to allow a minimum of 5 seconds from the start of one game to the next, and autoplay is banned on all online casino games. Live games often run slower than that minimum because of betting windows. Our game speed rules guide explains how this works across different games.
