Red Door Roulette on mobile

Red Door Roulette on mobile is Evolution's live single-zero roulette with a Crazy Time bonus wheel bolted on: each round hands out 3 to 15 Keys, and a winning straight-up bet on a Key number opens the bonus. The price is a lower base payout of 19:1 on straight-ups. Here's how it plays on a phone and what it costs.

Key takeaways

  • Evolution launched Red Door Roulette on 8 November 2023; it pairs a single-zero wheel with the 64-segment Crazy Time bonus wheel.
  • A slot generates 3 to 15 Keys per round, some carrying 2x to 20x multipliers; only a straight-up win on a Key number reaches the bonus.
  • Plain straight-up wins pay 19:1, against 35:1 in standard roulette, so the bonus is paid for out of the base game.
  • Evolution's game page gives no RTP or maximum win, so check the help screen inside the app before you play.
  • UK slot stake limits don't apply to live roulette, but the 2025 autoplay ban and the 5-second minimum game cycle do.

Red Door Roulette on mobile: what you're actually playing

This is a live roulette game from Evolution, the studio behind most of the tables in our live casino apps hub. Evolution announced it on 8 November 2023 as a cross between Lightning Roulette and the bonus round from Crazy Time, and its own game page calls it a mash-up of the two.

Underneath, it's ordinary single-zero roulette: numbers 1 to 36 plus one green zero, spun on an automatic wheel. What changes is a slot machine above the table that hands out Keys before the ball settles. Back a Key number straight up and win, and you go through the red door to a 64-segment bonus wheel.

On a phone you get the same live stream and betting grid as on a laptop, squeezed into a smaller screen. The game runs inside whichever casino app you use, so you won't find a separate Red Door Roulette app in the App Store or on Google Play. If a listing claims to be one, treat it with suspicion and read our guide to fake casino apps and scams.

How a Red Door Roulette round plays out

Each round follows the same order. Knowing it helps on a phone, where the betting window can feel short and the stream switches between the wheel, the slot and the bonus.

  1. Place your chips on the betting grid before the timer runs out. You can bet on single numbers or on ranges of numbers, as in normal roulette.
  2. Betting closes and the automatic wheel spins the ball.
  3. While the ball travels, the dealer pulls a lever to spin a slot machine above the table.
  4. The slot shows a Bonus Number between 3 and 15. That figure is how many Keys are handed out this round.
  5. Each Key lands on a random numbered spot on the grid, never more than one per number. Some Keys also reveal a multiplier between 2x and 20x.
  6. The ball settles. Ordinary winning bets are paid at their payout rate, with straight-ups paying 19:1.
  7. If the winning number holds a Key and you had a straight-up bet on it, you enter the Crazy Time bonus wheel. Everyone else watches.

Red Door Roulette payouts: why a straight-up pays 19:1

The headline trade in Red Door Roulette is the straight-up payout. Standard European roulette pays 35:1 on a single number, Lightning Roulette cuts that to 29:1, and Red Door Roulette, according to Evolution's game page, pays 19:1. The value taken out of the base payout funds the Keys, the multipliers and the bonus wheel.

Put that in pounds. A £1 straight-up win returns £36 in standard roulette (£35 winnings plus your stake), £30 in Lightning Roulette and £20 in Red Door Roulette when no Key is involved. That missing £16 is the cost of a ticket to the bonus.

Straight-up payouts on a £1 bet compared
GameStraight-up payoutTotal returned on a £1 winWhere the extra value goes
European roulette35:1£36Nowhere: the 2.70% house edge is the whole story
Lightning Roulette29:1£3050x–500x Lucky Number multipliers
Red Door Roulette19:1£20 (no Key)Keys, 2x–20x multipliers and the Crazy Time bonus

Evolution's page explains each bet type has its own payout rate but doesn't list the payouts for splits, streets, dozens or even-money bets in Red Door. Don't assume they match a standard table: open the paytable in the game before you stake anything other than a straight-up.

What a multiplier Key does

Evolution says that when the ball lands on a Key number that carries a multiplier, and you backed it straight up, every multiplier segment on the Crazy Time wheel is multiplied by that figure for your bonus. A 5x Key, for example, turns a 10x segment into 50x. A Key without a multiplier still sends you to the bonus, just without the boost.

The Crazy Time bonus behind the red door

Reaching the bonus moves the stream to a giant vertical wheel borrowed from the game show category. Evolution describes it as 64 segments of multipliers mixed with DOUBLE segments. A flapper marks the winning segment, and its multiplier is applied to your straight-up stake.

Land on DOUBLE and every multiplier on the wheel doubles before it spins again. Several DOUBLEs in a row can stack, which is where the large results come from. Evolution's Red Door page doesn't mention triple segments, a set number of flappers or a cap, so we won't describe any.

Only players with a straight-up bet on the winning Key number take part. If you'd covered that number with a split or a corner, you're paid at the normal rate and watch the bonus as a spectator.

If you already know Crazy Time on mobile, the wheel will look familiar. The difference is how you get there: in Crazy Time you bet on a bonus segment of the main money wheel, while in Red Door Roulette you need a roulette number, a Key and a win to coincide.

Red Door Roulette RTP and what a session costs

Evolution's public page for Red Door Roulette gives neither an RTP nor a maximum win. The Gambling Commission's technical standard RTS 3C requires operators to tell you about your chances of winning, usually as an RTP or house edge, so open the game's help or rules screen in the app. Our guide on how to find a game's RTP in an app shows where it usually sits.

Once you have it, the cost of a session is simple arithmetic: expected loss = stake per round × rounds × house edge, where house edge = 100% minus RTP. The bonus makes individual sessions swing much more than plain roulette, but over many rounds the average loss heads towards that figure.

As a reference point, standard single-zero roulette has a 2.70% house edge on every bet, according to Wizard of Odds' roulette maths (opens in a new tab). The table below uses that 2.70% and an assumed 40 rounds an hour purely to show the method; swap in the RTP from Red Door's own help screen and your real pace.

Worked example: expected loss over one hour at a 2.70% house edge (40 rounds)
Stake per roundTotal stakedExpected loss at 2.70%
50p£2054p
£1£40£1.08
£2£80£2.16
£5£200£5.40

Expected loss is an average, not a forecast. Because so much of Red Door's return is concentrated in rare bonus rounds, most short sessions will end below that average, and a few will end well above it. Losses are likely over time whatever happens in a single evening; the house edge explains why.

Placing Red Door Roulette bets on a phone screen

A roulette grid of 37 numbers is fiddly on a 6-inch screen, and Red Door adds Key markers and multiplier tags on top. Layouts vary between apps and game versions, so we can't promise a specific view, but a few general habits help.

  • Try landscape if the app offers it. A wider grid makes single-number taps less error-prone; our guide to landscape vs portrait mode explains the trade-offs.
  • Pick a chip value before the timer starts, so you aren't changing chips in the last few seconds.
  • Use the re-bet button if you play the same numbers each round. The Gambling Commission has said a re-bet feature isn't autoplay and can help in live games with short betting windows.
  • Check your bet total on screen before betting closes. A stray tap on a neighbouring number is easy on a small grid.
  • Keep the help screen bookmarked in your head: it holds the paytable, the RTP and what happens if you disconnect.

For more on bet types and how they fit on a small grid, see roulette bets on a phone screen and our general live roulette on mobile guide.

Streaming Red Door Roulette on 4G, 5G or Wi-Fi

The game is a continuous video stream, so it uses far more data than an RNG roulette game that only downloads graphics once. How much depends on the stream quality the app picks and how long you play; we don't publish a per-hour figure because it varies by app and connection. Our live casino data usage page covers what affects it.

A dropped signal mid-round doesn't stop the wheel: the round carries on in the studio without you. What happens to your bet is set out in the game's rules screen, and your account history is the place to check the result once you're back. Read how casino apps handle disconnections before you play on a train.

Which UK casino apps carry Red Door Roulette?

Game lobbies change often, and none of our partners' app store listings names Red Door Roulette specifically. What the listings do confirm is that each app includes live casino, so the practical step is to open the live lobby and search for the game by name before you deposit.

UK rules that shape Red Door Roulette in an app

Live roulette sits under the Gambling Commission's remote technical standards like any other online casino game. The ones you'll notice on a phone are these.

UK rules and dates that apply to live roulette apps
DateRuleWhat it means for Red Door Roulette
14 April 2020Credit cards banned for gamblingDeposit with a debit card, e-wallet or bank payment, not a credit card
17 January 2025Autoplay banned for all online casino gamesNo auto-spin of your bets; re-bet is still allowed
17 January 2025At least 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino gamesRounds can't be faster than 5 seconds; Red Door rounds are far longer anyway
17 January 2025No playing several casino games at onceYou can't run Red Door alongside another table in the same account
17 January 2025Net spend and time shown in real timeYour session spend and play time should be visible while you play

The online slot stake limits of £5 per spin (£2 for 18 to 24-year-olds) apply only to reel-based slots. The Commission's guidance doesn't extend them to roulette, so a live roulette table can accept higher stakes; the table's own limits apply instead. See game speed rules and the autoplay ban for the detail, or the Commission's autoplay decision (opens in a new tab), which says it saw no convincing reason to leave live casino out.

Red Door Roulette myths: Keys, patterns and systems

Bonus-heavy games attract theories. None of them changes the maths.

  • Myth: some numbers get Keys more often. Evolution's page says Keys go to random spots. Previous rounds don't make a number due.
  • Myth: covering lots of numbers straight up is a smart way to reach the bonus. It raises your chance of a Key hit in any round, but every chip still carries the game's house edge, and your total stake per round rises with each number.
  • Myth: doubling after a loss will win it back. The Martingale and similar systems don't change the edge. Wizard of Odds' review of betting systems (opens in a new tab) found results matched the house edge whatever the system, and doubling stakes runs into table limits and fast losses.
  • Myth: the app version pays less. Apps don't automatically have a lower RTP than desktop; the game's help screen shows the version you're playing. See is RTP lower on casino apps?

Keeping Red Door Roulette sessions in check

A game built around rare bonus rounds can make it tempting to keep going for one more Key. Decide your budget before you open the app and use the tools every UK app has to provide.

  1. Set a deposit limit in your account settings before your first deposit. Our guide to setting deposit limits in a casino app walks through it.
  2. Turn on a reality check so the app reminds you how long you've been playing.
  3. Watch the net spend figure on screen, and stop when you reach your limit rather than when a bonus lands.
  4. If you want a break, use a time-out; for longer, register with GAMSTOP for 6 months, 1 year or 5 years.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Red Door Roulette on my phone?

Yes, Red Door Roulette runs inside UK casino apps and mobile sites that carry Evolution's live tables. There's no standalone Red Door Roulette app, so you open your casino app's live lobby and search for it. Because it's a live video stream, a steady Wi-Fi or 4G/5G connection matters more than your phone's processing power. Check the lobby before depositing, as not every app lists every Evolution game. Our live casino apps hub explains how live tables work on mobile.

What is the RTP of Red Door Roulette?

Evolution doesn't publish the RTP on its public Red Door Roulette page, so the figure to trust is the one in the game's help screen inside your app. UK rules require operators to give information on your chances of winning. Once you find it, the house edge is 100% minus the RTP, and expected loss is stake × rounds × house edge. For comparison, plain single-zero roulette has a 2.70% edge. Our guide on finding a game's RTP in an app shows where to look.

How do you get the bonus in Red Door Roulette?

You need a straight-up bet on a number that receives a Key, and the ball has to land on it. Each round a slot gives out 3 to 15 Keys at random, one per number at most, and some reveal a 2x to 20x multiplier. Splits, corners and outside bets on a Key number are paid normally but don't open the bonus. The bonus itself is the 64-segment wheel from Crazy Time, with DOUBLE segments that multiply everything and spin again.

Why does a straight-up only pay 19:1 in Red Door Roulette?

The lower payout pays for the bonus. Evolution's game page gives 19:1 for a plain straight-up win, against 35:1 in standard European roulette and 29:1 in Lightning Roulette. On a £1 bet that's £20 back instead of £36 when no Key is involved. The value removed from ordinary wins is redistributed through Keys, multipliers and bonus rounds, which makes results swing more without making the game cheaper to play overall.

Is Red Door Roulette the same as Lightning Roulette?

No, they share a single-zero wheel and a random extra layer, but the extras work differently. Lightning Roulette boosts one to five Lucky Numbers with 50x to 500x multipliers paid straight away, and pays 29:1 otherwise. Red Door Roulette hands out 3 to 15 Keys, pays 19:1 on plain straight-ups, and sends Key winners to a bonus wheel. Read our Lightning Roulette guide or the XXXtreme Lightning Roulette page for the comparison.

Do UK slot stake limits apply to Red Door Roulette?

No, the £5 per spin limit (£2 for players aged 18 to 24) applies to online slots, which the Gambling Commission defines as reel-based games. Red Door Roulette uses a slot-style Key generator, but the game itself is live roulette, so the table's own minimum and maximum stakes apply. Other rules do apply: no autoplay, at least 5 seconds per game cycle and net spend shown in real time. See online slot stake limits for what the limit covers.

Can I use a welcome bonus on Red Door Roulette?

Usually not. The welcome offers we list from Casumo, 10bet and Coral are slot offers: free spins on selected slots, or a bonus with wagering on slots. Live roulette is commonly excluded or contributes less to wagering, and using a bonus on an excluded game can void it. Always read the bonus terms before playing. Our answer to can I use a bonus on live casino in the app? covers the typical restrictions. 18+, terms apply.

Does Red Door Roulette use a lot of mobile data?

It uses much more than an RNG game, because you're watching continuous live video for every round. The exact amount depends on the stream quality and how long you play, and it varies by app, so there's no single figure to rely on. Lowering the video quality where the game allows, or playing on Wi-Fi, keeps usage down. Our guide to playing live casino on mobile data has practical tips for capped plans.

Is Red Door Roulette fair?

The game is supplied by Evolution, whose GB licence is held by Evolution Malta Holding Limited (Gambling Commission account 41655), and it runs at UK-licensed casinos that must meet the Commission's technical standards. The ball result comes from a physical wheel, and Keys are allocated at random. Fair doesn't mean favourable: the game has a house edge, so losses are likely over time. Read do casino apps rig games? for how UK testing works.
