Funky Time on mobile explained

Funky Time on mobile is Evolution's disco-themed live wheel show, played on a 64-segment DigiWheel with letter bets, a number 1 spot and four bonus games. It launched on 24 May 2023. Evolution's product page doesn't publish an RTP, so check the help screen in your app before you stake anything.

Key takeaways

  • The wheel has 64 segments; 24 are letters spelling PLAY, FUNK and TIME, with a default letter payout of 25:1.
  • Four bonus games (Bar, Stayin' Alive, Disco and VIP Disco) only pay players who bet on that bonus.
  • Covering all 12 letters doesn't make a round safe: on 40 of the 64 segments no letter lands at all.
  • The RTP and an overall maximum win aren't on Evolution's product page, so read the in-game help screen.
  • UK apps can't offer autoplay, and you can play only one game at a time.

Funky Time on mobile at a glance

Funky Time is a live game show from Evolution built around a large digital wheel. A presenter spins it in a studio, and you bet from your phone on where it will stop.

Evolution launched it on 24 May 2023 (opens in a new tab) and presented it as its biggest new development since Crazy Time. At launch, the company's chief product officer called it "the most expensive and complex game we've ever created". That complexity is the main thing to get to grips with on a small screen: there are 19 bet spots (number 1, 12 letters, four bonuses and two combined bets) and four quite different bonus rounds.

If you already know money wheels such as Dream Catcher, the base game will feel familiar. The bonus rounds are where Funky Time differs, so most of this page explains them. For the wider picture, start at our live casino apps hub.

The Funky Time wheel and the bets you can place

The 64-segment DigiWheel spells out PLAY, FUNK and TIME in letter segments, and it also carries number 1 segments and bonus segments. According to Evolution's Funky Time page (opens in a new tab), there are 24 letter segments with a default payout of 25:1. Each round, random multipliers land on random segments, and a multiplier on your winning segment multiplies your win.

Evolution doesn't publish how many segments each letter has, so the chance of an individual letter landing isn't something you can work out from the product page. Read the paytable in the game's help screen; our paytable explainer shows what to look for.

Funky Time bonus games: how each round works

When the wheel stops on a bonus you've bet on, you go to that bonus round. Everyone can watch it, but only players with a bet on that bonus can win from it.

Bar

You choose one of three glasses, and each glass gets a random multiplier. A reel then reveals an extra multiplier that's randomly assigned to one glass and multiplies its value. Any wheel multiplier applies afterwards, to all three glasses.

Stayin' Alive

This one uses a machine with 90 coloured balls and a 20-level ladder that runs from 5x at the bottom to 10,000x at the top. You pick a team colour (green, pink or orange) and start at the bottom with four lives. A ball in your colour moves you up one or two levels, and a black STOP ball costs every player a life. When your lives run out, you're paid at the level you reached, multiplied by any wheel multiplier.

Disco and VIP Disco

Mr Funky starts in the centre of a virtual dance floor: 37 squares in Disco and 63 in VIP Disco. A mini wheel with eight segments, showing up, down, left and right, decides each move. Regular multipliers he lands on are added to your total, so a 2 and a 10 make 12x. Floor multipliers double five random Regular squares, a wheel multiplier is applied before the dancing starts, and the round ends when he steps off the edge.

Playing a round of Funky Time on your phone

The steps below follow the game's published structure. Your app's own buttons will differ, so check the help screen for the controls.

  1. Open your app's live casino lobby and look for Funky Time among the game shows.
  2. Open the help screen and read the paytable and return figures before your first bet.
  3. Choose a chip value and place bets on letters, number 1, bonuses or the combined spots during the betting window.
  4. Watch for random multipliers being assigned to segments before the spin.
  5. If the wheel lands on a spot you backed, you're paid at the shown payout times any multiplier.
  6. If it lands on a bonus you backed, make any choice the round asks for (a glass or a team colour) and follow it to the end.
  7. Check the net spend figure your app shows before deciding whether to play another round.

Does covering every letter or bonus in Funky Time help?

The combined bets make it easy to cover a lot of the wheel, which can feel safe. It isn't. With 24 letter segments out of 64, a letter lands on 24 spins in 64 (37.5%), and on the other 40 (62.5%) none does.

Here's the arithmetic for £12 spread as £1 on each letter, before any multipliers. If a letter lands, that £1 bet pays 25:1, so you get £26 back and are £14 up on the round. If no letter lands, you lose all £12. Multipliers make some hits much bigger, which is how the game's return is built, but they don't change the basic pattern of frequent losses and occasional wins.

The same logic applies to Bet on 4 Bonuses. More coverage means more stake per spin, not a better deal. The house edge applies to every pound on the table, and no bet pattern changes it. Our house edge explainer shows why.

Funky Time RTP and the cost per £100 staked

Evolution's product page doesn't state Funky Time's RTP, and an overall maximum win isn't confirmed either. The 10,000x top rung of Stayin' Alive can be multiplied by a wheel multiplier, so don't treat it as a cap. The game's help screen in your app is where the return for each bet type is shown; our guide to finding a game's RTP in an app walks you through it.

Once you have the figure, the cost is simple to estimate: expected loss = total staked × house edge. The table shows how much a single percentage point of edge matters. These edges are examples for the sum, not Funky Time's figures.

3%97%£3£15
4%96%£4£20
5%95%£5£25

Wheel shows often pay different returns on different bets, so it's worth looking for the spread of figures in the help screen. Compare with other formats in our house edge by game guide.

Funky Time on a small screen: what to expect

Evolution says its live shows are broadcast in real time from studios built like TV sets, and players join by phone or computer. On a phone, Funky Time packs 19 bet spots, a large wheel and a video stream into one screen, so it's busier than most live games.

  • Bet board: with this many spots, check your chips before the betting window closes. A mis-tap goes on the wrong letter as easily as the right one.
  • Disco rounds: the 63-square VIP floor is a lot to follow on a phone. Turning the screen sideways may help if your app supports it; see our portrait and landscape guide.
  • Data: live video uses much more data than animated games, and bonus rounds add viewing time. Our live casino data guide explains the trade-offs.
  • Battery: a long video session drains a phone faster than most apps. Our battery life guide has general tips.

UK rules for Funky Time in casino apps

Funky Time is a casino game, not an online slot, which affects which Gambling Commission rules apply. Under the Commission's responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab), these apply in UK apps:

  • No autoplay, from 17 January 2025, for all online casino games, live shows included. A re-bet button is allowed because the Commission doesn't treat it as autoplay.
  • At least 5 seconds per game cycle for casino games other than slots, also from 17 January 2025.
  • One game at a time: apps can't let you play several casino games at once.
  • No celebrating a return that's less than or equal to your stake.
  • Real-time net spend and time played must be on screen.
  • Slot stake limits don't apply here: the £5 and £2 per-spin limits cover reel-based online slots only.

For more detail, see our pages on UK game design rules and the autoplay ban. You must be 18 or over and have your age and identity verified before you can play.

Funky Time apps in the UK: where to look

The partner apps below describe live casino in their app store listings, but none of their published details names Funky Time, so open the game show lobby to confirm it's there. Casumo's Android listing is titled Casumo - Live Casino & Slots, and its iPhone app needs iOS 15.0 or later. The 10bet app combines sportsbook and casino and needs iOS 16.0. Coral's casino-only app needs iOS 18.0.

Where to play Funky Time: partner apps and offer terms

No partner offer is built for Funky Time. Each is a slot offer or a bonus with slot-focused wagering, and live wheel games are typically excluded or count for less, so read the terms before using bonus money on a show. All three are 18+ and terms apply.

  • Casumo gives new customers who opt in a 50% bonus up to £100 on a first deposit of £20 or more (18+). The bonus must be wagered 10x within 7 days, bets are capped at £5 while it's active, and game, play and payment restrictions apply.
  • 10bet offers new UK customers aged 18+ a 100% match up to £25 if they pick the casino bonus at sign-up and deposit within 7 days. Wager it 10x on slots within 3 days; bonus winnings are capped at £1,000, and Skrill and Neteller deposits don't count.
  • Coral: new players aged 18+ who deposit and bet £10 or more on slots between 1 October 2026 and 1 February 2027 get 100 free spins on selected games, worth 10p each. Accept them within 48 hours and use them within 7 days; spin winnings carry no wagering. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards are excluded.

If you play Funky Time with your own money, decide your spend first. A deposit limit set in the app is the simplest way to stick to it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Funky Time on my phone?

Yes, in casino apps that carry it. Evolution says players join its live shows by phone or computer through the game software, so you get the same studio stream in an app or a mobile browser. Not every app lists every show, so check the game show lobby. Our live casino apps hub lists the other shows covered on this site, with notes on which apps to check.

What is the RTP of Funky Time?

Evolution's product page doesn't publish one. Wheel shows often have different returns for different bet types, and the place to see them is the help screen inside the game in your casino app. Once you know the figure, multiply your total stakes by the house edge to estimate the average cost. Our RTP lookup guide explains the steps.

What is the maximum win on Funky Time?

An overall maximum isn't confirmed on Evolution's product page. The highest published figure is the 10,000x top rung of the Stayin' Alive ladder, and a wheel multiplier can scale ladder values, so 10,000x isn't a cap. Apps may also apply their own maximum payout, which appears in the game rules or the casino's terms. See our multiplier explainer for how these figures relate to your stake.

How many segments does the Funky Time wheel have?

It has 64 segments. Evolution says the DigiWheel spells PLAY, FUNK and TIME and includes number 1 and bonus segments, and its product page puts the letter segments at 24 with a default payout of 25:1. It doesn't break down how many segments each individual letter or bonus has, so check the in-game paytable. For a simpler wheel to compare, see our Dream Catcher page.

Is Funky Time like Crazy Time?

It's a close relative. Both are Evolution wheel shows with number or letter bets and four bonus games, and Evolution called Funky Time its biggest new development since Crazy Time. The differences are the 64-segment DigiWheel, letter bets instead of numbers, and the disco-themed bonuses: Bar, Stayin' Alive, Disco and VIP Disco. Our Crazy Time page covers that game's 54-segment wheel and bonuses.

Can I win a Funky Time bonus without betting on it?

No. Everyone at the table can watch a bonus round, but only players who bet on that bonus segment take part and can win from it. If you want to be in every bonus, the Bet on 4 Bonuses spot covers all four in one bet, which means a larger stake each spin rather than better value. Our house edge guide explains why coverage doesn't change the maths.

Is there autoplay on Funky Time in the UK?

No. The Gambling Commission banned autoplay for all online casino games from 17 January 2025, and said there was no convincing reason to exclude live casino. You must place each bet yourself, although a re-bet button is allowed. The same rules require at least 5 seconds per game cycle for non-slot casino games. Read our autoplay ban page for the details.

Can I use a casino bonus on Funky Time?

Usually only in a limited way, if at all. Our partners' welcome offers are slot offers, and live game shows are often excluded from bonus play or count for less towards wagering. For example, 10bet's bonus is wagered on slots and Coral's spins are for selected slots. Always read the terms first. Our answer on using a bonus on live casino covers what to check.
