Lightning Blackjack on mobile
Lightning Blackjack on mobile is Evolution's live blackjack where every initial bet carries a 100% Lightning Fee, and every winning hand earns a 2x to 25x multiplier for your next hand. Evolution quotes a 0.44% house edge with optimal play, but Wizard of Odds estimates basic-strategy players lose about 17.63% of their bet per hand. Here's what that means in pounds.
Key takeaways
- Each initial bet carries a 100% Lightning Fee, so a £5 hand costs £10 out of your balance.
- A winning hand earns a multiplier of 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x or 25x, applied to your next winning hand and kept for up to 180 days.
- Evolution claims a 0.44% house edge on the original wager, but only with an optimal strategy it doesn't publish.
- Wizard of Odds estimates a basic-strategy player loses 17.63% of the original bet per hand: about £88 per 100 hands at £5.
- Table rules are tighter than many games: one split only, no doubling after a split and no surrender, according to Wizard of Odds.

Lightning Blackjack on mobile: the short answer
Lightning Blackjack is a live blackjack game from Evolution, with unlimited players at each table. It plays like ordinary blackjack with one big change: you pay a Lightning Fee equal to your bet on every hand, and in return each winning hand earns a multiplier you can use on your next win.
That fee is the heart of the game. It doubles what each hand costs, and whether the multipliers make up for it depends on how you play. Evolution says they do, if you follow an optimal strategy. Wizard of Odds' analysis says a player using normal blackjack strategy loses far more than at a standard table.
This page explains the mechanics, puts both figures in pounds, and covers how the game behaves in a phone app. For the wider family of Evolution games, see our live casino apps hub and the Lightning Roulette page, which uses a similar multiplier idea with a very different cost.
How a Lightning Blackjack round works
- Place your bet before betting closes. The app adds a Lightning Fee equal to 100% of that bet, shown in the game's interface.
- The dealer deals one face-up card to each player position and then to the dealer, followed by a second face-up card to each player. The dealer's second card is face down.
- Your hand total appears next to your cards. Make your decisions: hit, stand, double or split, within the table's rules.
- The dealer completes their hand and bets are settled. A multiplier you carried in from a previous win boosts the payout if this hand wins.
- If this hand wins, you also earn a new multiplier of 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x or 25x, saved for your next round.
- Leave the table and any unused multiplier stays available for up to 180 days.
Evolution's game page describes the multiplier as randomly generated in one place and as depending on the winning player's score in another. Check the game's help screen for how your table decides it.
The 100% Lightning Fee in pounds
The fee is easy to underestimate because your bet and the fee are shown separately. In practice, every hand takes twice your stake from your balance. Doubles and splits add to your main stake, but the fee is charged on the initial bet.
| Initial bet | Lightning Fee (100%) | Total per hand | Over 50 hands |
|---|---|---|---|
| £1 | £1 | £2 | £100 put through |
| £2 | £2 | £4 | £200 put through |
| £5 | £5 | £10 | £500 put through |
| £10 | £10 | £20 | £1,000 put through |
Your bet comes back with winnings when you win, but the fee never does. It's spent on the chance of a multiplier. That's why a winning hand at a standard table and a winning hand here are worth very different amounts unless a multiplier is in play.
Lightning Blackjack multipliers: 2x to 25x, banked for the next hand
Every winning hand earns one multiplier from the set Evolution lists. It isn't paid on the hand that earned it. Instead, it waits for your next round and boosts that payout only if that hand wins too.
| Question | Answer from Evolution's page |
|---|---|
| Which multipliers exist? | 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x and 25x |
| Who gets one? | Every winning hand |
| When is it used? | On your next round, if that hand wins |
| How long does it last? | Up to 180 days, even if you leave the game |
| Can I see it? | Yes, it's shown in the game interface |
The timing matters. A multiplier only has value if you play another hand and win it, and that next hand costs another fee. So the game's design rewards continuing to play, which is worth bearing in mind if you've set a session limit. A banked 25x is still only potential; it guarantees nothing about the next hand.
Wizard of Odds' Lightning Blackjack analysis (opens in a new tab) also notes that the multiplier won is applied to the next hand, which is why optimal decisions change when you're holding a large one.
Lightning Blackjack RTP: Evolution's 0.44% against 17.63%
Two very different numbers circulate for this game, and both are correct on their own terms.
- Evolution's 0.44%. Evolution claims a house edge of 0.44% based on the original wager, assuming optimal strategy. That strategy accounts for the multiplier you hold and isn't published.
- Wizard of Odds' 17.63%. By Wizard of Odds' estimate, a player using conventional basic strategy loses 17.63% of the original bet per hand. Counting the fee as part of the total wagered, that's 8.82% of everything you put through.
In pounds, the gap is stark. The table compares 100 hands at each stake with Infinite Blackjack, which Wizard of Odds lists at 0.45%.
| Initial bet | Lightning: basic strategy (17.63%) | Lightning: Evolution's optimal claim (0.44%) | Infinite Blackjack (0.45%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| £1 | £17.63 | 44p | 45p |
| £2 | £35.26 | 88p | 90p |
| £5 | £88.15 | £2.20 | £2.25 |
| £10 | £176.30 | £4.40 | £4.50 |
Most people play blackjack using a standard chart, so the basic-strategy column is the realistic one for most players. Our house edge by game table shows how unusual a 17.63% figure is for a table game, and what is the house edge on mobile blackjack? explains where the usual figures come from.
Lightning Blackjack table rules compared with classic blackjack
Evolution's public page doesn't list deck count or player options. Wizard of Odds reports the following, and the help screen in your app is the place to confirm them.
| Rule | Lightning Blackjack | Effect on the player |
|---|---|---|
| Decks | Eight, reshuffled after about four decks | Standard for live tables |
| Dealer soft 17 | Stands | Better than hitting soft 17 (worth 0.22%) |
| Dealer peek | Only with an ace showing | Doubles and splits against a dealer 10 can be lost to a dealer blackjack |
| Blackjack pays | 3 to 2 | The standard payout |
| Splits | One split only | Not re-splitting costs about 0.10% |
| Double after split | Not allowed | Costs about 0.14% |
| Surrender | Not offered | Removes a small player option |
Each restriction is small on its own, and the costs above are Wizard of Odds' measurements of each rule against its baseline game. The fee is the dominant factor; the rules just mean there's little else working in your favour.
Why basic strategy isn't enough at a Lightning table
Basic strategy is built for a game where each hand stands alone. In Lightning Blackjack, what you hold from the previous round changes what a win is worth, so the best decision on, say, a hard 11 can depend on whether you're carrying a 2x or a 25x. Evolution's 0.44% assumes you make those adjustments perfectly.
Because that optimal strategy isn't published, no chart we can point to gets you to 0.44%. Following a standard chart still beats guessing, as it does at any blackjack table, and our blackjack strategy on mobile guide covers it. Just budget on the basis of Wizard of Odds' basic-strategy figure rather than the headline claim.
Card counting is sometimes raised too. It's a 1960s theory, and live tables generally use shuffling methods that defeat it; Wizard of Odds reports this shoe is reshuffled after roughly half the cards. It isn't a way to change the edge here.
Playing Lightning Blackjack on a phone: fees, multipliers and timers
- Read the full bet total. The fee appears separately from your stake. Make sure the total, not just the chip, fits your budget before betting closes.
- Track your multiplier. It's shown in the interface; a quick glance tells you whether this hand carries a boost.
- Mind the decision timer. With unlimited players, the table moves on when time runs out. Check the help screen for what happens to an undecided hand.
- Keep a steady connection. A frozen stream mid-hand is frustrating. Our guide to what happens if your app crashes mid-game explains what to check afterwards.
- Watch your data. Live video runs continuously; see live casino data usage.
First Person Lightning Blackjack vs the live table
Evolution also makes a First Person version of Lightning Blackjack. First Person games are RNG games with 3D animation: there's no dealer or studio, and the software decides every card. A Go Live button moves you from the First Person version to the live table of the same game.
| Feature | Live table | First Person |
|---|---|---|
| Cards decided by | Real dealer and shoe | Random number generator |
| Pace | Set by the studio and other players | Set by the software |
| Data use | Continuous video stream | Animation; usually lighter than video |
| Fee and multipliers | 100% fee, 2x–25x | Check the help screen |
| Switching | Not applicable | Go Live button to the live version |
Read what is a First Person game? or our First Person games on mobile guide for more. Don't assume the RNG version has identical rules or return; check its own help screen.

UK rules and Lightning Blackjack
| Since | Rule | What it means here |
|---|---|---|
| 14 April 2020 | Ban on gambling with credit cards | Fees and stakes must come from debit, bank or e-wallet funds |
| 17 January 2025 | Autoplay banned for all online casino games | Each hand, and each fee, needs your action |
| 17 January 2025 | At least 5 seconds per non-slot game cycle | Live blackjack is far slower than this anyway |
| 17 January 2025 | Only one casino game at a time | No running Lightning Blackjack alongside another table |
| 17 January 2025 | Net spend and time shown in real time | Your net position includes fees paid |
Slot stake limits of £5 and £2 are for reel-based slots only, so blackjack tables set their own maximums. The Gambling Commission's autoplay decision (opens in a new tab) explains why live casino was included. Our game speed rules page covers the 5-second minimum.
Multiplier myths and keeping Lightning Blackjack in budget
Myth: a big banked multiplier means you should keep playing. A multiplier only helps if the next hand wins, and that hand costs another fee. Chasing a banked multiplier is chasing a possible win with fresh money. It will still be there for up to 180 days, so there's no reason to play on past your limit.
Myth: the multiplier makes this the best-value blackjack. For most players it's the reverse, as the 17.63% basic-strategy figure shows.
- Decide your session budget, counting fees, and set a deposit limit to match. See our deposit limits page.
- Turn on a reality check so the app interrupts long sessions.

Frequently asked questions
How does Lightning Blackjack work?
Lightning Blackjack is live blackjack with a 100% Lightning Fee added to every initial bet. Each winning hand earns a multiplier of 2x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x or 25x, which boosts your next hand's payout if that hand also wins. Unused multipliers last up to 180 days. Otherwise it follows standard blackjack, with tighter rules on splitting and no surrender, according to Wizard of Odds. Our live blackjack on mobile guide compares other live versions.
What is the RTP of Lightning Blackjack?
It depends on how you play. Evolution claims a 0.44% house edge (99.56% RTP) on the original wager, but only with an optimal strategy it doesn't publish. Wizard of Odds estimates a player using conventional basic strategy loses 17.63% of the original bet per hand, or 8.82% of the total including the fee. For most players the second figure is the realistic one. Check the help screen for your operator's figure. See how to find a game's RTP in an app.
What is the Lightning Fee in Lightning Blackjack?
It's an extra charge equal to 100% of your initial bet, added to every hand. So a £5 bet costs £10 from your balance. The fee isn't returned when you win; it pays for the multiplier system. Doubles and splits increase your main stake as usual. Because the fee doubles your outlay, a smaller base bet keeps the same budget lasting as long as at a standard table. Our house edge entry explains how costs like this add up.
How long do Lightning Blackjack multipliers last?
Evolution's game page says an unused multiplier stays available for up to 180 days, even if you leave the game. It applies to your next round and boosts the payout only if that hand wins. You don't need to rush back to use one, and it's worth remembering that the next hand costs a fresh fee whether it wins or not. Our reality checks page explains a tool that helps you stick to session limits.
Can I play Lightning Blackjack on my phone?
Yes, Lightning Blackjack streams to UK casino apps and mobile sites that carry Evolution's live tables, and there's also an RNG First Person version. Search your app's live lobby, as availability varies. Check that the bet total including the fee is what you intend before betting closes. A dependable connection keeps the live stream smooth. See can I play live casino on my phone? for device basics.
Is Lightning Blackjack better than normal blackjack?
For most players, no. Basic-strategy players lose an estimated 17.63% of the original bet per hand by Wizard of Odds' figures, against 0.45% at Evolution's Infinite Blackjack. Evolution's 0.44% claim needs an unpublished optimal strategy. If you enjoy the multipliers, play at a stake that allows for the fee. If you want the lowest cost per hand, a standard table is cheaper. Our Infinite Blackjack page covers the low-edge alternative.
What are the rules at a Lightning Blackjack table?
Wizard of Odds reports eight decks, the dealer standing on soft 17, a peek only when the dealer shows an ace, blackjack paying 3 to 2, one split only, no doubling after splitting and no surrender. Evolution's public page doesn't list these, so check the game's help screen, as versions can differ. The 100% fee and multipliers sit on top of these rules. Our blackjack app guide explains each rule and what it's worth.
Can I use a welcome bonus on Lightning Blackjack?
Usually not. The welcome offers we list from Casumo, 10bet and Coral are for slots, and live blackjack is normally excluded or contributes less to wagering. Using bonus money on excluded games can lead to the bonus being removed. Read the terms before opting in. Our guide to how wagering works in casino apps explains contribution rates. 18+, terms apply.
