Monopoly Megaways slot: the essentials
Big Time Gaming released Monopoly Megaways in 2019, using the board game’s characters and properties under a licence from Hasbro. That makes it a Megaways game from the mechanic’s own creator rather than from a licensee.

| Developer | Big Time Gaming |
| Licence | Hasbro (Monopoly brand) |
| RTP | 96.5% |

| Released | 2019 |
Big Time Gaming was founded in Sydney in 2011 and is led by Nik Robinson. Evolution agreed to buy it in April 2021. Besides Megaways, it created the Megaclusters and Megapays mechanics, and it licenses the Megaways name and mechanic to other studios, as Gambling Insider reported in 2018 (opens in a new tab). Our Big Time Gaming slots page covers its other games.
How the features work in Monopoly Megaways
Think of the game as two layers: a Megaways reel set below and a Monopoly board above. Wins happen on the reels; the board is where the bonus builds.
Reels and Reactions
Each of the six reels shows between two and seven symbols per spin. Wins pay for matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left. Big Time Gaming calls its cascades Reactions: winning symbols are removed, new ones fall in, and further wins can follow within the same paid spin.
The M wild
An ‘M’ wild can land on reels 2 to 6, substituting for other symbols to help complete wins. It cannot appear on reel 1, so every win still starts with a real symbol on the first reel.
Mr Monopoly and the board
Above the reels sits a Monopoly board. Mr Monopoly moves around it, adding houses to the properties he lands on. The game’s help screen explains exactly what moves him and how far.
Getting to free spins
Free spins start in one of two ways: when Mr Monopoly reaches the Chance square, or when a fifth house is added to a property. During the round he keeps moving. Landing on properties with houses raises the win multiplier, and landing on train stations adds extra spins.
From 64 to 117,649 ways: the Monopoly Megaways reels
Because each reel can show between two and seven symbols, the number of ways is recalculated every spin by multiplying the six reel heights together. The extremes are simple powers.
| Reel heights | Calculation | Ways |
|---|---|---|
| All reels at 2 | 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 × 2 | 64 |
| All reels at 4 | 4⁶ | 4,096 |
| 2, 7, 3, 5, 6, 4 | 2 × 7 × 3 × 5 × 6 × 4 | 5,040 |
| All reels at 6 | 6⁶ | 46,656 |
| All reels at 7 | 7⁶ | 117,649 |
The ways count changes how a win is shaped on a given spin, not the game’s long-run return. Our Megaways slots on mobile page explains the mechanic across other games, and the Megaways glossary entry gives a short definition.
Monopoly Megaways RTP and volatility in pounds
The 96.5% RTP leaves a house edge of 3.5%. Sources differ on the volatility, rating it either medium or high, so expect a fairly uneven ride: decent stretches of small cascade wins, with the larger returns tied to the board bonus.
| Stake | Spins from £20 with no returns | Average cost of 500 spins | 14,700× at this stake |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10p | 200 | £1.75 (on £50 staked) | £1,470 |
| 50p | 40 | £8.75 (on £250 staked) | £7,350 |
| £1 | 20 | £17.50 (on £500 staked) | £14,700 |
The 500-spin column shows how quickly turnover grows. Five hundred spins is not a long session, roughly 21 minutes at the 2.5-second minimum, yet at £1 it means £500 staked. Winnings that you keep replaying count towards that turnover too. The house edge applies to every pound staked, whichever stake you pick.
The 14,700× ceiling is the most the maths allows, not a likely result. Losses are the expected outcome over time. Wizard of Odds’ overview of slot machines (opens in a new tab) explains why the outcome of each spin is independent of the last.
Monopoly Megaways vs Monopoly Live and other Monopoly games
Search for Monopoly in a casino app and you may find several very different games carrying the brand. They share the theme but little else.
| Game | Type | Maker | Key figures |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monopoly Megaways | Six-reel Megaways slot | Big Time Gaming | 96.5% RTP, up to 117,649 ways, 14,700× max |
| Monopoly Big Event | 5×3 slot, 20 paylines | Barcrest (Light & Wonder) | 96% RTP, medium volatility, released 2015 |
| Monopoly Live | Live game show with a 54-segment wheel | Evolution | Launched April 2019; return varies by bet |
Monopoly Live is hosted by a real presenter and streamed, and its 2 Rolls and 4 Rolls bonuses send Mr Monopoly round a 3D board, as Evolution’s game page (opens in a new tab) describes. It runs on a fixed round schedule rather than spins you start, and, as a video stream, it uses more data than a slot. Our game show apps list covers apps that carry it. MONOPOLY Casino, which we review separately at MONOPOLY Casino app, is a casino brand, not a game.
Playing the Monopoly Megaways slot on mobile
Monopoly Megaways runs in HTML5, so it plays inside casino apps and mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. Big Time Gaming does not say whether it is laid out for portrait or landscape. With up to 42 symbols plus a board on screen, there is a lot to see, and turning the phone sideways may help on smaller models.
- Choose a UK-licensed casino app and install it from the official App Store or Google Play listing.
- Pass the age and identity checks; UK casinos must complete these before you deposit or try any demo.
- Set a deposit limit when prompted, before your first deposit.
- Search the app’s lobby for Monopoly Megaways; availability varies by casino.
- Tap the info button to check the RTP version and read how Mr Monopoly moves before you choose a stake.
If your connection drops during a cascade sequence, the casino’s server holds the result. Our guide to what happens to a bet if your app crashes explains how to check your game history.
UK rules on Monopoly Megaways in apps
Big Time Gaming’s British version has to comply with the Gambling Commission’s RTS 14 responsible product design standard (opens in a new tab). That means no autoplay, a minimum of 2.5 seconds per spin, no turbo or slam-stop, and no win celebrations for returns that are equal to or less than your stake.
The most you can stake is £5 a spin if you are 25 or over, or £2 if you are 18 to 24. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so free spins can only come through the board. Our pages on slot stake limits and game speed rules set out the dates.

Frequently asked questions
What is the RTP of Monopoly Megaways?
Monopoly Megaways has a published RTP of 96.5%, so the house edge is 3.5%. Over a very long run that averages a cost of about £3.50 for every £100 staked, although a single session can swing a long way from that. Casinos can sometimes run a different version of a game, so the figure on the game’s help screen in your app is the one to trust. Our walkthrough on how to find a game’s RTP in an app points you to the right screen.
How do you get free spins on Monopoly Megaways?
Free spins start when Mr Monopoly lands on the Chance square, or when a fifth house is added to a property on the board above the reels. During the round he keeps moving: properties with houses raise the win multiplier, and train stations add extra spins. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the board is the only route in. Our guide to free spins in casino apps explains the term.
What is the max win on Monopoly Megaways?
The maximum win on Monopoly Megaways is 14,700 times your stake. At 10p a spin that is £1,470, and at £1 it is £14,700. It is a cap built into the game’s maths, and the developer does not publish how often it is reached, so it should not shape your expectations. Losses are the likely result over time. Our list of high RTP slot apps is a better guide if long-run cost matters more to you than the ceiling.
Is Monopoly Megaways the same as Monopoly Live?
No: one is a slot and the other is a live show, made by different studios. Monopoly Megaways is a six-reel slot by Big Time Gaming in which you start each spin. Monopoly Live is Evolution’s live game show, launched in April 2019, with a presenter, a 54-segment wheel and dice-roll bonuses on a 3D board. The show’s return depends on which segment you bet on. Our Monopoly Live app guide covers the game show in full.
Who makes Monopoly Megaways?
Monopoly Megaways is made by Big Time Gaming under a licence from Hasbro, which owns the Monopoly brand. Big Time Gaming was founded in Sydney, Australia, in 2011 and created the Megaways mechanic, first used in its game Dragon Born. Evolution agreed to buy the studio in April 2021. Its other well-known titles include Bonanza, Extra Chilli and White Rabbit. Our Big Time Gaming slots on mobile page lists more.
How many ways to win are there on Monopoly Megaways?
Monopoly Megaways has between 64 and 117,649 ways to win, and the number changes on every spin. Each of the six reels shows between two and seven symbols, and the ways count is all six heights multiplied together. Six reels of two gives 64; six reels of seven gives 117,649. More ways do not change the RTP, which stays at 96.5% across all spins. Our Megaways glossary entry explains the mechanic in brief.
Can I play Monopoly Megaways on my phone?
Yes, Monopoly Megaways is an HTML5 slot that runs in UK casino apps and mobile browsers on iPhone and Android. You will need a verified UK casino account and an app whose lobby includes it, since not every casino carries every game. The reels and board share the screen, so some players prefer landscape view or a tablet. Our guide on landscape vs portrait mode in casino apps explains the options.
Is Monopoly Megaways high volatility?
Sources differ: some rate Monopoly Megaways as medium volatility and others as high. In practice, that means results can be uneven, with many small cascade wins and the bigger returns tied to the board-driven free spins. Volatility does not change the long-run cost set by the 96.5% RTP; it changes how bumpy a session feels. Smaller stakes give a budget more spins. Our page explaining volatility on a slot app has more.
