What the Nitropolis slot is

Nitropolis comes from ELK Studios, the Stockholm studio behind Cygnus and the Wild Toro and Pirots series. It was released in 2020 and is built around one idea: making individual reel positions hold more than one symbol.

On a plain spin, the game is a six-reel, four-row ways slot. Once Nitro Reels arrive, the number of ways can climb into the millions. That headline figure is real, but it describes a rare best case, not a normal spin.

How the features work in Nitropolis

Nitro Reels

A Nitro Reel can appear on any of the six reels. On a Nitro Reel, each position is packed with several matching symbols instead of one. Since ways are counted by how many symbols each reel contributes, one Nitro Reel can multiply the number of ways to win on that spin many times over.

Respins after wins

When a spin pays, the winning symbols trigger a respin. If the respin produces another win, you get another, and the sequence carries on for as long as new wins keep landing. It ends on the first respin without a win. You pay only for the original spin.

Free spins

Three to six scatter symbols trigger the free spins round, giving between 10 and 25 spins depending on how many scatters landed. Two things change for the round:

• A symbol is picked at random to become a scatter-paying symbol, so it pays wherever it lands rather than only in ways combinations.
• Every Nitro Reel that lands during the round is locked in place, so the grid can only get denser as the round goes on.

Locked Nitro Reels building up over the round, together with a symbol that pays from anywhere, is what gives Nitropolis its medium–high rating: a round that collects several locked reels plays very differently from one that collects none.

Nitropolis ways to win: from 4,096 to 85 million

The base number is simple arithmetic. With four symbols showing on each of six reels, the ways are 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 4,096, the same count as other 6×4 ways games such as Raging Rhino.

The top figure of 85,155,840 needs Nitro Reels packing extra symbols across the grid. It’s about 20,790 times the base count, which shows how far the feature can stretch a spin. But more ways aren’t the same as more value: the symbols still need to match across neighbouring reels, and the paytable decides what a match is worth.

Nitropolis free spins: scatters and spins

The verified range runs from 10 spins for three scatters to 25 for six. The awards for four and five scatters sit between those two points and are listed in the game’s paytable.

Feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020. The free spins round can only be reached by landing scatters in normal play.

At 10p, 200 spins give the scatters many more chances to land than 20 spins at £1, although the average cost is identical. The cap column is a ceiling that very few rounds approach; the realistic expectation for a short session is a loss.

Over an hour, cost depends on pace. At the fastest legal rate of 1,440 spins, 10p stakes would mean £144 played and an average cost of about £5.62. Respins add play time without extra cost, so real sessions usually include fewer paid spins than that.
