Are app-only bonuses real?
Are app-only bonuses real? Some are. A UK-licensed operator can run promotions that only appear inside its app, such as daily prize games or reward schemes, and they must follow the same Gambling Commission rules as any other offer. Most headline welcome bonuses, though, belong to your account, not the app. An “app-only” deal from an unknown source is a warning sign.
Key takeaways
- Genuine app-only promotions exist, mostly as in-app reward games and loyalty features rather than bigger welcome offers.
- Every bonus from a licensed operator follows the same rules: 10x wagering cap, one product per offer, clear terms and an opt-in.
- Google Play doesn’t allow install incentives in a gambling app’s store listing, so “download for a bonus” claims there deserve a second look.
- Offers pushed through an APK download, a private message or an unlicensed site are the ones to avoid.
- Check the operator on the Gambling Commission’s register and read the offer terms inside the official app.
- Same rules as website offers
- Yes
- Wagering cap
- 10x the bonus (from 19 January 2026)
- Opt-in
- Required; no automatic enrolment
- Google Play listings
- No install incentives allowed
- App Store purchases
- Can’t buy real-money credit
Are app-only bonuses real? The short answer
Yes, they can be, but the phrase covers very different things. At one end are genuine in-app features from licensed operators: daily prize wheels, reward currencies and free-to-play games with prizes. At the other end are “exclusive app bonuses” promoted through dodgy downloads or unlicensed sites, which offer no UK protection at all.
The test isn’t whether an offer says “app-only”. It’s who is behind it and whether the terms follow UK rules. This answer is part of our casino app questions hub, which covers bonuses, payments and safety.
What “app-only bonus” usually means in UK casino apps
In practice, the app-specific promotions you can verify from store listings are reward features rather than larger welcome deals. The App Store and Google Play listings for our partners describe several of them.
| App | Feature in the listing | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Coral Casino | Free-to-play games with real-money prizes | Prize games that need no stake, after age verification |
| Coral Casino | Smart Rewards, Rewards Grabber, Coral Coins | Promotion and reward schemes inside the account |
| Ladbrokes Casino | Instant Spins, daily prize wheel, game show and live roulette contests | Free-to-play prize games |
| Ladbrokes Casino | LadBucks | A reward currency used on arcade games |
| PlayOJO | OJOplus | Money back on every game played |
| Casumo | Reel Races, The Adventure, Trophy Collection | Slot tournaments and a levelling reward scheme |
Store listings don’t say whether these features are unavailable on the website, so we can’t confirm any of them as strictly app-only. What they show is that most in-app promotions are ongoing rewards, not a bigger first-deposit bonus for choosing the app. Our pages on daily free games, LadBucks and OJOplus explain three of them.
App-only or not, every bonus follows the same UK rules
The Gambling Commission’s rules apply to the operator, not the channel. An offer shown only in an iPhone app is held to exactly the same standard as one on a desktop site. The key rules are in LCCP social responsibility code 5.1.1 (opens in a new tab), rewritten from 19 January 2026.
- Wagering can’t exceed 10 times the bonus. See the UK wagering cap.
- One offer can’t mix gambling products, such as sports betting and casino, even in a combined app. Our page on the mixed-product bonus ban has the detail.
- Terms must be clear, fair and easy to find, and significant terms must sit with the offer itself.
- You must opt in to a promotion; operators can’t enrol you automatically.
- Once you’ve opted in, the operator can’t change or withdraw the offer for you except to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour.
- An offer can’t be made bigger because you hit the qualifying spend faster.
That last rule is often misreported. There’s no 2026 ban on offers that depend on how long or how often you play; the actual rule is that the reward can’t be increased or altered for reaching the qualifying spend sooner.
What Apple and Google allow casino apps to offer
The app stores add their own layer. Apple’s App Review Guidelines (opens in a new tab) say real-money gaming apps must be licensed where they’re used, geo-restricted, free to download, and can’t use in-app purchase for credit or currency. Gambling apps must also be submitted by a legal entity providing the service, not an individual developer.
Google Play’s real-money gambling policy (opens in a new tab) requires a valid licence for each market, age gating, geo-blocking and no Play billing. Its gambling application form lists required features including an Adults Only rating, an 18+ notice, a responsible gambling statement and no install incentives in the store listing.
So a Google Play listing promising a bonus just for installing would clash with Google’s own requirements. And any “app bonus” that asks you to pay through your Apple ID or Play account isn’t real-money credit; it belongs to a social casino.
How to tell a real app bonus from a fake one
| Genuine signs | Warning signs |
|---|---|
| Shown inside the official app from the App Store or Google Play | Offered with a link to download an APK file |
| Operator named on the Gambling Commission’s public register | No UK licence number, or a licence from elsewhere only |
| Wagering of 10x or less, or none | Wagering above 10x on an offer aimed at British players |
| Terms one tap away, with deposit, expiry and exclusions stated | No terms, or terms that say the operator may void winnings at its discretion |
| Opt-in button or selection at sign-up | Bonus sent by a stranger on social media or messaging apps |
| Paid through the operator’s cashier | Asks for payment via gift cards, crypto or your Apple ID |
Unlicensed sites can advertise generous “exclusive app” deals precisely because they don’t follow UK rules. They also don’t offer GAMSTOP, complaint routes to an approved dispute service, or protection for your money. Our guides to spotting an unlicensed casino app and fake casino apps and scams go further.
How to check an app-only casino bonus before you claim it
- Find the app through the App Store or Google Play rather than a link in a message or advert.
- Check the publisher name on the listing matches the casino’s operating company, such as LC International Limited or Entain for Coral and Ladbrokes, or Skill On Net for PlayOJO.
- Look up that company on the Gambling Commission’s public register and confirm it holds a remote casino licence.
- Open the promotion inside the app and read the significant terms: deposit, stake, spin value, wagering, expiry and excluded payments.
- Compare it with the offer on the operator’s website; if they differ, follow the terms of the version you’re claiming.
- Opt in only if the terms make sense for the amount you planned to spend anyway.
App bonuses sent by push notification
Some in-app offers reach you as notifications. Since 1 May 2025, UK online operators must let you choose which products (betting, casino, bingo) and which channels (phone, email, SMS) you get direct marketing through, with the options off by default. The Commission decided a separate push-notification option wasn’t needed, so notification controls also sit in your phone settings.
If promotional alerts tempt you to play more than you meant to, switch them off. Our guide to turning off casino app notifications shows the iPhone and Android settings, and notifications and urges looks at why they can be hard to ignore.
Is an app-only casino bonus worth more?
Not necessarily. Daily prize games and reward currencies can be pleasant extras, but they’re usually small and come with their own conditions. A reward scheme that rewards more play is still designed around you playing more, so judge it by what you’d spend anyway.
Choosing the app over the website should be about convenience, Face ID login or safer-gambling tools, not a belief that the app pays out more. Our app vs browser answer weighs the real differences.
Real casino app bonuses from licensed partners
These three welcome offers come from UK-licensed operators whose apps are on the App Store and Google Play. None is presented as app-only: you can claim each one whether you register in the app or on the website. 18+ and terms apply to all three.

Accept within 48 hours and use within 7 days; no wagering on free spin winnings. Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards don’t qualify.
- Ladbrokes, also LC International Limited: new customers aged 18+ who deposit and spend £10 or more on slots get 50 free spins a day for the first 10 days, up to 500, at 10p each on selected games. Claim before 23:59 each day; spins last 7 days; no wagering. Prepaid cards, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers are excluded.

Frequently asked questions
Do casino apps give better bonuses than websites?
Not as a rule. Welcome offers are normally tied to your account, so the operator’s app and website usually show the same deal. Apps may add in-app reward features, such as Ladbrokes’ daily prize wheel or Coral’s free-to-play games, but these tend to be small extras. Our page on whether the casino app is the same as the website compares the two in more detail.
Is a bonus for downloading a casino app legal?
A licensed operator can run an offer for app users if it follows UK promotion rules, including the 10x wagering cap and clear terms. However, Google Play’s gambling application form says the store listing itself must not contain install incentives. Be wary of anyone promising a reward just for downloading, especially via a link outside the official stores. Our Google Play rules guide explains the store’s requirements.
Why can’t I find the app-only offer I saw advertised?
It may be targeted at certain customers, limited to new accounts, or already expired. Offers can also differ between regions, and some are only available through a specific link. If you can’t see an advertised offer in the official app, contact the operator’s support and ask before depositing. Our guide to reading casino app bonus terms shows where eligibility rules usually appear.
Can a casino app take back a bonus after I’ve opted in?
Only in limited circumstances. Gambling Commission guidance says operators must not use terms letting them vary or withdraw a promotion for a customer who has opted in, unless it’s needed to prevent fraud or similar unlawful behaviour. They also can’t ban a type of play that wasn’t clearly set out in advance. If a bonus was removed, our page on why a bonus was removed covers the usual reasons.
Are free-to-play prize games in casino apps a bonus?
They work like a promotion rather than a deposit bonus. Coral’s app listing describes free-to-play games with real-money prizes, and Ladbrokes lists Instant Spins and a daily prize wheel. You don’t stake money on them, but UK rules still require age verification before you can access free-to-play versions of gambling games. See our daily free game page for how these features usually work.
How do I report a fake casino app bonus?
Don’t claim it or share your details. If the offer came through an app in the App Store or Google Play, use the store’s report option. If it came from an operator that isn’t on the Gambling Commission’s register, don’t deposit, and keep screenshots of the advert or message. Our page on how to report a casino app explains each route, and what a fake casino app is describes common tricks.
Does the 10x wagering cap apply to app-only offers?
Yes. The cap is part of the operator’s licence conditions and applies to every incentive it offers British customers, whether through an app, a website, an email or a notification. Since 19 January 2026, no bonus from a licensed operator can require more than 10 times the bonus in wagering. An app offer quoting 35x or 40x is either out of date or not from a UK-licensed operator. See what the wagering cap is.
Do I have to opt in to app-only bonuses?
Yes. UK guidance says customers must opt in to promotions rather than be enrolled automatically. In an app that usually means tapping an opt-in button, selecting the offer at sign-up, or accepting spins when they’re credited. Coral’s welcome spins, for example, must be accepted within 48 hours. If you’d rather avoid offers altogether, simply don’t opt in; our casino apps that send offers page explains marketing choices.
