Flutter: meaning in UK gambling

Flutter, in UK gambling, means Flutter Entertainment, the group that owns Sky Vegas, Sky Casino, Paddy Power and Betfair. It is not the company you hold an account with: those brands run under separate licensed companies, such as Bonne Terre Gaming Limited for the Sky apps and PPB Entertainment Limited for Paddy Power.

Key takeaways

  • Flutter Entertainment is an owner group; its UK brands sit on different licences.
  • Sky Vegas and Sky Casino now trade under Bonne Terre Gaming Limited (account 65519).
  • Paddy Power and Betfair sit with PPB Entertainment Limited (39426) and PPB Games Limited (39411).
  • None of our partner apps belongs to Flutter, so we have no Flutter offers.

Flutter meaning for UK casino app players

When a casino app review mentions Flutter, it’s talking about ownership. Flutter Entertainment controls several of the biggest names in UK gambling, but each brand’s app is run by a licensed subsidiary, and that subsidiary is the operator responsible for your money and your complaints.

The name dates from 28 May 2019, when Paddy Power Betfair renamed itself Flutter Entertainment and kept Paddy Power and Betfair as flagship brands. Sky Betting & Gaming, the business behind Sky Vegas and Sky Casino, joined through Flutter’s merger with The Stars Group, completed on 5 May 2020. Our casino app glossary covers the other owner groups.

Flutter the gambling group vs Flutter the app toolkit

Search for ‘Flutter app’ and you’ll also find Flutter, Google’s toolkit that developers use to build apps for iPhone and Android from one codebase. The two are unrelated. This entry is about the gambling group. Whether a particular casino app is built with any given toolkit isn’t something the store listings state, and it makes no difference to the licence or the games.

If you’re weighing up how casino apps are built, our native app and web app entries cover the choices that do affect you, like storage space and updates.

The Sky licence moved recently. Bonne Terre Limited (account 38718) surrendered its licence on 31 October 2025, and the Sky brands now trade under Bonne Terre Gaming Limited. The App Store still shows Bonne Terre Ltd as provider for the Sky apps. You can check both on the Commission’s Bonne Terre Gaming Limited register entry (opens in a new tab) and the older Bonne Terre Limited entry (opens in a new tab).

Flutter casino apps on iPhone

Flutter’s brands lean towards standalone casino apps, separate from their sports apps, though not in every case.

The Betfair Live Casino listing’s iOS 9 requirement and 17+ rating suggest an old listing; we couldn’t confirm it’s still maintained. Android versions of the Flutter casino apps are reported by third parties, but we couldn’t confirm the Google Play listings, so search the store by name and check the developer. Our reviews of Sky Vegas, Sky Casino, Paddy Power Casino and Betfair Casino go into each app.

Flutter brands’ regulatory record

  • December 2025: four licensees trading as Betfair and Paddy Power, including PPB Entertainment Limited, agreed a £2m payment in lieu of a penalty over customer interaction failures under SR code 3.4.3, found after an April to May 2024 compliance assessment.
  • March 2022: Bonne Terre Limited, trading as Sky Betting and Gaming, was fined £1.17m after a Sky Vegas ‘Bet £5 get 100 free spins’ email on 2 November 2021 reached about 41,395 self-excluded and 249,159 unsubscribed customers.
  • October 2018 (reported): Paddy Power Betfair paid £2.2m over social responsibility failings.

The Sky case shows why self-exclusion and marketing consent rules matter. The Commission’s enforcement action list (opens in a new tab) is the place to look for later cases, and the PPB Entertainment Limited register entry (opens in a new tab) shows the licence behind Paddy Power and Betfair.

How to check a Flutter-owned app’s licence

  1. Note the seller name on the App Store listing, such as Paddy Power PLC or Sky Betting & Gaming.
  2. Open the app’s terms and find the licensed company and its account number.
  3. Search that number on the Gambling Commission’s public register.
  4. Check the licence is active and the brand appears among the active domains or trading names.
  5. If a store listing names a company you can’t match, don’t install it.

Alternatives to Flutter apps with a welcome offer

We don’t carry offers from any Flutter brand. If you’re choosing between owner groups, these are the partner offers we do promote, from Entain’s Coral and Ladbrokes and from PlayOJO. All are for new customers aged 18+, are slot-only, and terms apply.

  • Coral: 1 October 2026 to 1 February 2027; deposit (some types excluded) and bet £10+ on slots for 100 free spins on selected games at 10p each. You get 48 hours to accept and 7 days to use them, with no wagering on spin winnings. The excluded methods are Neteller, PayPal, Paysafe, Skrill, prepaid cards and certain debit cards.
  • Ladbrokes: after depositing, spend £10+ on slots and get 50 free spins daily for 10 days (500 maximum), 10p each, claimed by 23:59 each day and valid for 7 days, with no wagering. Prepaid card, PayPal, Paysafe, Neteller, Skrill and Moneybookers deposits don’t count.
  • PlayOJO: new UK customers, Northern Ireland excluded, who deposit £10+ for the first time receive 80 free spins on Big Bass Bonanza at 10p. No wagering, winnings in cash, designated link only, not combinable.

On app specs, the Sky and Paddy Power apps need iOS 15.0, while Coral and Ladbrokes need iOS 18.0 and PlayOJO iOS 15.0. Coral and Ladbrokes share an operator, so you may not get both offers. Whatever the brand, the house edge means losses are likely over time.

Coral and Ladbrokes are both run by LC International Limited (Entain). If you already hold an account with one Entain brand, you may not be able to open another; check the terms first.

Frequently asked questions

What is Flutter in gambling?

Flutter, or Flutter Entertainment, is the group that owns Sky Vegas, Sky Casino, Paddy Power and Betfair. It took that name on 28 May 2019, when Paddy Power Betfair rebranded, and added Sky Betting & Gaming through The Stars Group merger in May 2020. Your account is with a licensed subsidiary rather than the group. Our operator entry explains why that matters.

Does Flutter own Sky Vegas?

Yes, Sky Vegas is a Flutter brand. It came to Flutter with Sky Betting & Gaming through The Stars Group merger, completed on 5 May 2020. In the UK it now trades under Bonne Terre Gaming Limited, account 65519, after the older Bonne Terre Limited licence was surrendered on 31 October 2025. Our Sky Vegas app review covers the app itself.

Is Flutter the same as Paddy Power Betfair?

Yes, Flutter Entertainment is the renamed Paddy Power Betfair. The change happened on 28 May 2019, and Paddy Power and Betfair stayed on as flagship brands. In the UK they sit with PPB Entertainment Limited and PPB Games Limited, both of which list the brands’ domains as active. Our Paddy Power Casino review explains the app and its licence.

Has Flutter been fined in the UK?

Yes, its brands have faced several actions. In December 2025 four Paddy Power and Betfair licensees agreed a £2m payment over customer interaction failures, and in March 2022 Sky Betting and Gaming was fined £1.17m for emailing a Sky Vegas offer to self-excluded and unsubscribed customers. Our customer interaction rules page explains the duty behind the 2025 case.

Is a casino app built with Flutter the same as a Flutter Entertainment app?

No, they’re unrelated. Flutter is also the name of Google’s toolkit for building iPhone and Android apps, while Flutter Entertainment is a gambling group. A casino app’s store listing doesn’t usually say which toolkit built it, and that has no bearing on its licence. Check the seller and the register instead, as our guide to fake casino apps and scams shows.

Are any of your partner casino apps owned by Flutter?

No, none of our five partners is a Flutter brand. Coral and Ladbrokes belong to Entain, PlayOJO is run by Skill On Net Limited, Casumo by Recro Limited and 10bet by Blue Star Planet Limited. We review Flutter’s apps fairly but don’t promote offers from them. Our Ladbrokes vs Sky Vegas comparison sets one against the other.
