Big Bass Amazon Xtreme slot review

The Big Bass Amazon Xtreme slot is Reel Kingdom’s 2023 entry in the Big Bass series, distributed by Pragmatic Play, on five reels with 10 fixed paylines. It adds a base-game collect feature and a pick stage to the familiar Fisherman free spins, carries a 10,000x cap and is rated 5/5 for volatility. Its 96.07% RTP also comes in lower versions, so the copy your app runs matters.

Big Bass Amazon Xtreme slot basics

The Big Bass games come from Reel Kingdom, a studio whose titles reach casinos through Pragmatic Play. The series began with Big Bass Bonanza in December 2020, and Amazon Xtreme, released in 2023, is one of the higher-risk versions.

The grid is the series’ usual five reels and three rows, here with 10 fixed paylines. The “Xtreme” in the name is backed up by the figures: very high volatility, rated 5 out of 5 on the game’s own scale, and a 10,000x maximum win, nearly five times the original game’s cap.

How the features work in Big Bass Amazon Xtreme

Fish money symbols

Some fish carry a cash value printed on them. On their own in the base game they don’t pay; they need something to collect them.

The base-game collect feature

Here, fish values can also be collected outside the bonus. A random feature in the base game can gather the money symbols on screen and apply a multiplier to their total, giving ordinary spins an occasional extra payout.

Free spins and the pick stage

Three or more scatters start the free spins. If more than three land, the extra scatters open a pick stage first. The picks can add modifiers to the coming round, such as more spins, or removing the lowest-value fish so that every fish that lands is worth more.

The Fisherman and retriggers

During free spins, the Fisherman is the wild. Whenever he lands, he collects the values of every fish money symbol in view. Fishermen are also counted across the round: every fourth one collected retriggers the feature with 10 more spins and raises the multiplier applied to fish values.

That ladder is the heart of the game. A round that never reaches four Fishermen tends to pay modestly, while one that climbs the ladder can multiply every later catch, which is why results are so uneven.

Three RTP versions of Big Bass Amazon Xtreme

Pragmatic Play supplies this game at 96.07%, 95.08% or 94.05%, and the casino picks one. There’s no visual difference, so the only way to know is the game’s rules screen. The house edge is 100% minus the RTP, and over enough spins it is the price you pay.

What each version costs on average (standard game maths)
RTP versionHouse edgePer £100 stakedPer £20 stakedPer hour at 10p and 1,440 spins
96.07%3.93%£3.93£0.79£5.66
95.08%4.92%£4.92£0.98£7.08
94.05%5.95%£5.95£1.19£8.57

The lowest version costs about half as much again as the highest. The Gambling Commission requires game rules and return information to be available to players under its standard on rules and the likelihood of winning (opens in a new tab), and our guide to finding a game’s RTP in an app shows where to look.

What 5/5 volatility means for £20 at 10p, 50p and £1

Very high volatility means most of the game’s return is held back for rare, large results. For a short session, the most likely outcome is that a budget is used up without a big catch, and sometimes without reaching free spins at all.

£20 on Big Bass Amazon Xtreme (96.07% version)
StakePaid spins from £20Average loss on £20 staked10,000x cap in pounds
10p200£0.79£1,000
50p40£0.79£5,000
£120£0.79£10,000

The average loss is the same at every stake, but the experience is not. Twenty spins at £1 give the scatters very few chances; 200 at 10p give many more. With a game this swingy, a low stake is the sensible way to see the features within a fixed budget.

Big Bass Amazon Xtreme vs other Big Bass slots

The series shares the Fisherman collect idea, but the numbers vary a lot between versions. Here is how Amazon Xtreme sits against the others we review.

Amazon Xtreme gives up a little RTP against the original (0.64 points at the top versions) in exchange for a much higher cap and the base-game collect. If you prefer a steadier version, the original has lower volatility and the higher top RTP. Our slots hub lists every Big Bass review we publish.

Big Bass Amazon Xtreme on mobile

Pragmatic Play distributes its games in HTML5, so this slot loads inside casino apps and mobile browsers. A 5×3 grid with 10 lines reads well on any phone; cash values on the fish can look small on a compact phone, so a larger screen helps.

  1. Download a UK-licensed casino app from the official App Store or Google Play listing. Our Android install guide covers safe installation.
  2. Complete age and identity verification before you deposit.
  3. Set a deposit limit when prompted before the first deposit.
  4. Search the lobby for “Amazon Xtreme” to skip past the other Big Bass titles.
  5. Open the paytable and rules, and check which of the three RTP versions the casino runs.
  6. Choose a stake you could repeat many times within your budget, and start each spin yourself.

Stake caps and feature buys in the UK

In Great Britain, online slot stakes are capped at £5 a spin for players aged 25 and over and £2 for those aged 18 to 24, following the government’s announcement of the online slot stake limits (opens in a new tab). The 10,000x cap at £2 would be £20,000, and at £5 it would be £50,000.

Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the free spins and pick stage can only be reached by landing scatters. Videos from other markets may show a buy button you won’t see here.

  • No autoplay, and at least 2.5 seconds per spin.
  • No turbo or slam-stop.
  • No celebrations for returns equal to or less than the stake.
  • Net spend and time played shown in real time.

Our slot stake limits page explains the age checks behind the two caps.

Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play

Reel Kingdom is best known for the Big Bass series, and its games are distributed by Pragmatic Play. Its breakthrough came with Big Bass Bonanza on 14 December 2020; other titles include Floating Dragon, Emerald King and Return of the Dead. Several of its games share a top RTP of 96.71%, which makes Amazon Xtreme’s 96.07% a little lower than many of its stablemates.

Pragmatic Play, founded in 2015 and headquartered in Gibraltar, handles distribution and is licensed in Great Britain and more than 30 other jurisdictions, according to Pragmatic Play’s own site (opens in a new tab).

Common mistakes with Big Bass Amazon Xtreme

  • Assuming every Big Bass game pays the same. RTPs, caps and volatility differ across the series, as the table above shows.
  • Ignoring the version. The gap between 96.07% and 94.05% is real money over a session.
  • Thinking a bonus is “due”. Each spin is random and independent, so a long gap since the last free spins changes nothing.
  • Raising stakes to reach the feature. The house edge is the same at every stake, so a higher stake just raises the average cost.
  • Confusing offer spins with this game. PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza, not Amazon Xtreme.

Frequently asked questions

What is the RTP of Big Bass Amazon Xtreme?

The top RTP is 96.07%, but versions at 95.08% and 94.05% also exist, and the casino chooses which one to offer. At the top version the average cost is £3.93 per £100 staked; at the lowest it is £5.95. Open the game’s rules in your app to see the version you’re playing. Our answer on how to find the RTP in a casino app explains where it’s shown.

How do free spins work in Big Bass Amazon Xtreme?

Three or more scatters start free spins, and any extra scatters first open a pick stage that can add modifiers such as more spins or removal of the lowest-value fish. In the round, the Fisherman wild collects all fish money values on screen, and every fourth Fisherman retriggers 10 more spins with a higher fish multiplier. Our free spins guide separates in-game spins from offer spins.

Is Big Bass Amazon Xtreme the same as Big Bass Bonanza?

No, they’re different games in the same Reel Kingdom series. Big Bass Bonanza has a 96.71% RTP, high volatility and a 2,100x cap; Amazon Xtreme has a 96.07% top RTP, very high volatility, a 10,000x cap and a base-game collect feature. PlayOJO’s welcome spins are on Big Bass Bonanza. Our Big Bass Bonanza review covers the original in full.

What is the max win on Big Bass Amazon Xtreme?

The game caps any win at 10,000x the stake, which works out at £1,000 on a 10p spin, £10,000 on £1 and £50,000 on £5, the most a player aged 25 or over can stake. With very high volatility, payouts near the cap are extremely rare and most sessions end in a loss. Our page on the slot stake limit on apps explains the £5 and £2 caps.

How volatile is Big Bass Amazon Xtreme?

It is rated very high, shown as 5 out of 5 on the game’s own volatility scale. That means long runs of small or no returns are normal, with most of the value coming from rare, large free spins rounds. Volatility doesn’t change the average cost, which the house edge sets. Our glossary entry on volatility explains how to use a rating when choosing a stake.

Can I buy free spins on Big Bass Amazon Xtreme in the UK?

No, there’s no feature buy for British players. Since a Gambling Commission warning in January 2020, feature buy-ins are not offered to British players, so the free spins and the pick stage can only be reached by landing scatters. Footage from other countries may show a buy option. Our UK game design rules page lists the other slot rules that apply.

Can I play Big Bass Amazon Xtreme on my phone?

Yes, it is an HTML5 game that runs in UK casino apps and mobile browsers that carry Pragmatic Play titles. You install only the casino app, not the game. The 5×3 grid suits phones well, though the fish values are small, so a larger screen helps. Our pages on casino apps for iPhone and Samsung Galaxy phones cover setup and settings.

Who makes Big Bass Amazon Xtreme?

Reel Kingdom makes it, and Pragmatic Play distributes it to casinos. Reel Kingdom is best known for the Big Bass series, which began with Big Bass Bonanza on 14 December 2020, and it also made Floating Dragon. Pragmatic Play was founded in 2015 and is based in Gibraltar. Our Reel Kingdom studio page lists the Big Bass games we review.
